Explosive Revelation
Explosive revelation..
The explosion ripped true the lab, the flames licking his body, the heat from it shocking his system. The harsh landing of his body on the hard grown knocked the wind out of him. The pain of the glass under his body hardly hurt a thing as adrenalin pounded out in his body.
Greg lifted his head from the ground, his ears still ringing from the explosion. The first thought on his mind was, is Gris ok? The other was, what the fuck just happened?
Then the world went black.
When he came to he was laying on a gurney, Grissom walking beside it. Greg sighed deeply and relaxed into the gurney. His man was ok.
“Gil… “He murmured, his eyes falling shut. His hand reached for Gil, and the older man took it with out hesitation. Greg fell back into unconsciousness.
“I’m here Cariad, I am here… “Gil spoke quietly. The old man was terrified.
When he had rounded the corner in a run and spotted Greg lying prone among the glass. His heart stopped until he came close enough to see the rise and fall of Greg breathing. He had no time to think.
Falling to his knee’s beside his lover he gently caressed the boy’s cheek. His heart had been beating a mile a minute and did not even consider how his behaviour looked. He could not bring himself to care.
“You will be ok Greg, you have to be Cariad. My heart…could not take it otherwise… “
He did not look away from the boys face until the paramedics pushed him aside. Then he looked around. Sara looked at him with a mildly resentful look, mixed with a touch of pity. Catherine smiled slightly at him; she had been the only one that knew. She had walked in on him and Greg one morning making breakfast. Nick and Warrick looked like they were in shock.
“Will there be a problem?” He asked those around him, both lab techs and team members.
Almost everyone smiled in the end and shock their head. Everyone respected Grissom to much to begrudge him falling for the charming lab tech.
Nodding Grissom stood and followed the gurney out, Taking Greg’s hand when he called out to him.
“I’m here Cariad, I am here… “
Sara had just passed the DNA lab, the boom making her twist in the air. The shockwave sent her to the ground. Looking up she saw Greg lift his head before loosing consciousness. She did not know if minutes or seconds passed, her internal clock was a bit warped. Grissom came around the corner, looking dismayed.
For the fraction of a second she thought it might have been for her. If she had not seen him mouth ‘Greg’ as he rushed down the hall. Her ears still ringing from the explosion she stood up on shaking legs. Slowly she moved closer to the two.
Watching as Grissom held an almost silent vigil over the young lab technician. Having learned to read lips young in her life she could easily decipher what he was saying, and each word broke her heart and elated her at the same time.
As Grissom asked if there was a problem she shocks her head. Looking around the room she spotted Catherine and her knowing look. A glimmer of anger and resentment entered her mind. But it disappeared as soon as it came, of course the older woman knew. She had been Grissom’s confidant for years.
Turning to the older woman she smiled.
“You knew didn’t you?”
Catherine looked at Sara, a small smile curling her lips.
“Yes I knew… I have known sense about 3 months into their relationship.” She curled her arm around Sara and led her towards the lounge motioning Warrick and Nick to follow her.
“Let’s let the pro’s do their job. We’ll get some coffee and I’ll fill you in on our little inter office love match.”
Warrick grinned at her choice of words and he took his seat. Nick sat down beside him after having poured himself and Warrick a cup of Greg’s Hawaiian blue. Sara and Cath took their seat opposite the boys.
“So Cath... dish. What do you know?” Nick smiled eagerly at the older woman. He was a bit of a romantic and after the shock had worn of, he felt happy for his friends.
“Yeah when did they start going out?” Warrick asked.
“Well as Gil told me, they meet the weekend before Greg was supposed to start working here, at a club down town. Gris had a lover then, but they had argued and broken up that same after noon. As Greg later told me, he basically was the one to seduce Gil. To both of them it was supposed to be a one nightstand.” She smiled wickedly.
“Imagine Gil’s shock when he walked in Monday night to find his one night stand working at the lab. “ They all laughed.
“Gil and Greg told me that the first week had been horrible, tens and awkward. That’s were the impression that Gil makes Greg nervous started.” Cath leaned closer, “Honestly I think it’s quite to opposite. Greg made Gil very nervous. As Greg told me he cornered Gil one night and basically told him that what’s done is done and there was no way they could change that. So they agreed to put it aside and become friends. They started with coffee after work.
That became Lunches on days of and about a year later Grissom invited Greg to his house for dinner. 6 weeks later Greg blurted out those 3 words, and even more amazing was that Gil said them back.”
Nick shakes his head.
“It’s great, hard to believe... But great! How did you find out..?”
Catherine laughed.
“It’s a funny story. Every Saturday for years, when we have had the day before of and the Saturday as well, Gil and I have meet for breakfast. It had been a while, 3 months I think but finely we had those 2 special days of. And I head over there.
I knock on the door. But I get no answer, so I let myself in with the spare, figuring that he is asleep, and that I’ll get the omelettes started. Imagine the look on my face when I enter Gil’s kitchen and find him kissing Greg against the kitchen counter.”
They all break out in laughter even Sara whom had been quiet until now.
“What happened next?” Sara had to ask.
“Well as Gils and start to travel further into the mature only regions I decided to put a stop to the show. I cleared my throat, nothing. I do it again louder this time. This time I get a reaction; Greg breaks the kiss and looks at me. His eyes widen, and that face makes Gil turn around as well.
Oh boy I have never seen Gil blush that hard. He excused himself without a word and went to throw some clothes on. He had been in only his boxers. Greg jumped down from the counter and buttons up his jeans, seemingly completely unbothered by; well you can figure that one out...
“Hey Catherine… “He said. I grinned and spotted the breakfast stuff behind him.
“Making breakfast Greg?”
“Well… yeah until Gil woke up and distracted me...” I offered to help him and together we got breakfast in order, and boy, that boy can cook. He does a French omelette that is to die for… oh where was I... Yes...
When we were done Grissom had finally calmed down and came down stairs. He asked why I was there, I told him and he looked a bit sheepish. Explaining that he had completely forgotten about it… I laughed at his discomfort and forgave him, and told him that Greg was invited from now on to…”
They talk a while longer, ironing out the details, getting some facts straight. Like the fact that the higher up knew and Gris had arranged for the day supervisor to handle Greg’s evaluation.
Nick spoke what was all on their minds.
“Then I guess... all we can do is to be their friends...”
As the night gave way to day Grissom headed to the hospital, to see how Greg was doing. He had spoken to Cath, having given her the lead on the explosion investigation. It was a bit too personal to him. She had told him that he had given the rest of the team the facts. He was grateful that there would be not bullshit flying around, at least not in his own team. The others in the lab he could handle, but his team was his family.
One thing he dreaded though, was telling Greg they were out at work. They had never discussed it. Other then alerting the higher up about it so that there would be no fall out if it ever came out so to speak.
He walked into the hospital room without any hassle, by flashing his id. Taking a seat on the edge of the bed he caressed his lover drawn face. The boy looked like he was in pain and it clawed on Grissom’s heart.
“You think too much lover... “ came a low voice. A slight smile curled his lips as he looked down a fraction and meet amused blue eyes.
“Sometimes... “Greg reached up and pulled him down their lips meeting in a frantic kiss. Breaking the kiss with a gasp Gil straightens up.
“Crazy at the lab?” Greg asked his voice concerned. Gil smiled and shakes his head.
“No more then usual, there was a change today though... They know…”
Greg’s eyes widen, and then closing tightly.
“How?” The question was straight to the point.
“It was a little hard to hide the fact that I was frantic over you being hurt love... And you were calling for me while you were slipping in and out of consciences. “Gil smiled slightly and looked down to hide his blush.
“Any fall out?” Greg stayed on track, he needed to know.
“The higher ups already know and doubt they will mind. Cath handled the team, they understand and support us. And I talked to dayshift and any night tech that wishes may transfer to day, with the pay reduction that comes with it.”
Greg nodded, and then smiled. Then I am glad, I was sick of hiding. I love you Gil Grissom and I want the world to know it.”
“And I love you Greg Sanders. “
Lips met in a gentle kiss as the nurse passed in the hall, making her sigh and shake her head. ‘The good ones were always taken, or gay...Most often both!’
