Ghostly Encounter
Oct. 31st 3 p.m.
Being on probation the Duke cousins Bo and Luke were required to
report to a federal probation officer twice a year in addition to their
local probation officer. This time their meeting fell on Halloween and
now having finished they were heading back home to Hazzard, as they made
their way along the highway Bo became more and more nervous.
"What's wrong with you Bo? I ain't never seen you this jumpy." Luke
asked his lover in annoyance. At first Bo didn't answer, he wasn't
quite sure what to say, knowing he had to say something he tried to
find the words to explain. "I...I'm not sure Luke, it's hard to explain.
.....I just fel like I'm waiting for something to happen, and I don't
think it's something good. I don't know, maybe it's cause of Halloween."
"Oh Bo don't tell me you're worried about ghosts and goblins." Luke
said through his laughter. Bo turned away from Luke to stare out the
window. He was angry at Luke for making fun of him and if he was honest
a little hurt. "Come on Bo don't do that, I didn't mean to laugh. I
just didn't expect you to let yourself get worried cause of a date on
a calender." Luke said in apology. After several minutes Bo started
chuckling, "It's allright Luke I gues it does sound silly and maybe I
didn't explain very well. I'm not really worried about ghosts and such,
just trying to figure out why I'm feeling like this. It's like...it
feels like there's something waiting, just out of sight, to pounce on us.
I know it don't make sense I just don't know how else to explain it."
Before he had the chance to say anything Luke was startled by activity
on the road up ahead. Taking in the scene, a log truck jack-knifed on
the road and logs everywhere, Luke knew he'd have to take a detour or
be stuck for hours. Spotting a dirt road to the right he figured they
could use it to get around the wreck. They hadn't gone far when a sound
of crashing thunder took them by surprise, off to the west they could
see the storm headed their way. Luke sped up hoping to either get ahead
of the storm before it hit or find shelter. He was sure from the looks
of those clouds driving in that storm was going to be dangerous, just
as the storm reached them Luke spotted a motel up ahead. It looked like
kind of a sleezy motel but they didn't have much choice they needed
somewhere to wait out the storm and there wasn't any other place nearby.
As he pulled under the carport by the office Luke realized the place was
abandoned. Luke jumped as Bo suddenly spoke, "I don't like the looks
of this place Luke, we should find somewhere else."
Luke was surprised by the fear he heard in Bo's voice, "Bo there ain't
no place else and we can't drive in this mess." As if to prove his
point a tree suddenly fell across the road having been hit by lighting,
causing both men to jump. "Come on darlin we'll get the emergency supplies
out of the trunk and find a room to stay in until it's safe to drive."
Bo sighed in resignation not really sure what was bothering him, he only
knew this place gave him the creeps. He felt like someone was watching
him and it sure didn't feel friendly. As he helped Luke get out the
supplies he had to smile at the thought that for once Boss and Roscoe
were a help. It was because of them that Bo and Luke always kept supplies
in the General's trunk, never knowing when they might have to camp out.
It wasn't a lot, flashlights, a lantern, sleeping bags and enough food
and water for a few days, and now it meant they'd be fairly comfortable
while waiting out the storm. Now if he could just quit feeling so on
edge and creeped out he and Luke could actually enjoy the time alone.
If either of them had known what would take place within the walls of
this place they would have taken their chances with the storm.
