A month had gone since Amy last saw David. Not to mention, since she had last had sex. It wasn’t earth moving sex, but it was all she had in six months. She found it funny that sex was even an issue for her anymore. Yet it was. She hated being alone. Moreover, she hated sleeping alone. She stared at her bedroom ceiling while deep in thought.
There was never a constant in her life. Well sure, she had her family… for what that was worth. Maxine had lost someshe she loved dearly, picked herself up and started dating then found out he was married. Kyle fell for Heather, then Lilly, then Lilly left, then Heather left. Lauren had Victor which made Amy very uncomfortable. Peter and Gillian were seeing other people but were still married. Carol left Vincent for her oncologist. What a mess…
There was Bruce. He was reliable… unless you want him to walk you down the aisle. She could always talk to him… unless it was about her love life. He was always a source of comfort… unless he was leaving for a new career like he was now. He finally finished his child psychology degree. Maxine and Sean found Bruce a great start in the field making almost double his current salary. Amy was happy for him. Sort of.
She let out a sigh and closed her eyes. She could see Bruce. It hurt that he was leaving her. She never felt so alone in her life. Her family was a mess, her love life was a mess and now she faced losing her best friend. Sure he promised they’d keep in touch. Friends always promise they’d keep in touch. Lolly moved a year ago and she’s called Amy a couple of timesen een each other maybe twice. Amy didn’t want to lose Bruce. She couldn’t take being any lonelier.
The house was so quiet. Lauren was gone to Michael’s. Peter had a gig. Vincent and Kyle were out doing only lord knows what. Maxine finally accepted Ignacio’s offer to let him explain himself and they were somewhere nice doing that, as far as Amy knew. And here was Amy with thoughts of Bruce floating in her head.
“Why am I so focused on Bruce? I’m dating David –for what that’s worth. I guess I’m scared to death of losing my best friend,” she thought to herself. Bruce had been difficult in the last year but she still loved him dearly. She remembered all the times he had comfort her in the past. All the times he also tried protecting her. So what this year he skipped out on the wedding all for something he couldn’t name. Or didn’t want to. A smile surfaced on Amy’s lips.
He was so sexy when he was trying to tell her why he couldn’t make it to her wedding. She was angry with him but she still noticed how he looked when he tried explaining himself. It reminded her of that night they kissed.
It wasn’t a one time thing. They kissed a few times that night. If Amy didn’t know better, she thought he enjoyed himself. She sure did. He was a great kisser. If it wasn’t for Bruce and his morals; there would have been more than kissing that night.
Amy pulled her pillow over her face. She couldn’t sleep. Her thoughts were driving her mad. She looked over at her alarm clock: 11:30pm. It wasn’t that late. She decided to call Bruce. She sat up and reached for phone. She tried to think of what she would say. “Hmm… maybe he’s got something interesting to talk about,” she thought. So she dialed his number.
“Hello.”
“Hey Bruce.”
“Judge Gray?”
“Amy Bruce. You can call me Amy. We are friends right?”
“Right. Sorry. What’s up? To what do I owe the pleasure of this phone call?”
“I just wanted to talk. I’m dreading you leaving and I’m working on our time out of the courtroom to make sure you don’t disappear on me,” Amy said vehemently.
It sounded good. She wondered if it was convincing.
“You’re bored huh?”
Guess it wasn’t convincing.
“A little. What are you doing? Am I interrupting anything?”
“Not a thing. Rebecca is in New York with Mia for the weekend. I’m sitting here watching TV. I was thinking of renting some movies. Nothing much on TV.”
“Yeah? Lauren is also in New York with Michael. Isn’t that weird? Our exes are both in New York and they both have names that start with M.”
“That is funny. I wonder how come we never noticed that before. So do you want to watch some movies or would David be upset that you went out to play without him?”
He had to bring up David. Everything was going well. Why did he have to bring up David?
“I thought you didn’t want me discussing him with you? And I would love to watch some movies with you as long as we don’t have to discuss him. There isn’t anything to discuss,” she said coy.
“Alright alright… I’m going to run out to the video place. I should be back by the time you get here. Is there anything in particular that you want to see?”
“No. I haven’t seen anything in so long that I’m sure whatever you pick will be great.”
“Ok, I’ll see you in a little while then. Bye”
“Bye.”
Amy jumped up. She had a huge smile on her face. She felt like jumping up and down some more. Then she caught herself: What was she so giddy about? This was just watching some movies with her friend. Nothing real exciting there. Damn Amy was horny.
“Maybe we could be friends with benefits,” she thought to herself mischievously. Bruce would never submit but Amy planto hto have fun trying.
