Truth
Chapter 8- Rewrite of a scene in “Truth”: Chloe has broken into Luthorcorp Labs and been dosed with a chemical that forces people to tell her the truth. She outs a teacher who murdered someone long ago. She gets Lionel Luthor to admit to murder. She almost gets Clark’s parents to tell her his secret. Along the way, she had a chat with Lex.
Lex entered his study, taking a moment to looking at Chloe Sullivan. She had her back to him and was studying one of the pictures on the far wall. He knew he was taking a risk, with all the thoughts that rolled under the surface of his mind about this tiny girl, but it could all be worth it.
“Chloe, thanks for coming.” He smiled and stopped to sit on the edge of his desk. Sitting behind a desk and talking to someone always made him feel like his father. He didn’t enjoy the sensation.
“I only have a minute. Clark just called me about a story that broke at the hospital, so...” She turned to face him, pink lips pouty and annoyed.
“Perhaps you should just give me the abridged version of your little fieldtrip into Luthorcorp? No, let me guess. Somehow, no one can resist telling you the truth.” He said with a little sneer.
“Why are you talking like that to me? Are you expecting me to apologize?” Chloe stepped forward, eyes glittering in anger.
“You wouldn’t be you, if you did. And I’m taking this tone because you keep putting yourself in harm’s way, in my father’s way, with little or no care for your own safety and even though I am worried sick I’m still going to try to use it to my advantage.” Lex felt a headache start at the back of his head. God damn truth-inducers.
Chloe was staring at him, her mouth hanging open. “What are you thinking about doing?”
Lex pressed her lips together. He knew what she meant but he wanted to answer her question completely. And. He. Wasn’t. Going...
“Fucking you. I also want you to use your new ability to help me get back the weeks my father stole from me.”
“F-F-F?!” Chloe stuttered. Lex frowned and stood, walking forward until he could put his hands on her shoulders.
“Chloe, you asked. I answered. Please focus on the important part of my previous statement.”
“Maybe you should.”
Lex frowned. The penny dropped. Now it was his turn to stutter. “Ch... We... What?”
She stepped forward, sliding her hands up over the soft material of his shirt. Her hands came to rest on his chest.
Part of Lex was screaming at him to take her right there, memories be damned. He licked his lips and forced his eyes over her shoulder.
“No.”
“Why?”
Lex snapped his eyes back to hers and glared. She knew he had to answer. Did she expect some neat, simple explanation? No. He couldn’t give that to her. He didn’t have it in him. So he showed her instead.
He pressed her into the wall, using one hand to pin both hers over her head. His other hand roamed over her body, greedy. He wasted no time in capturing her lips, plundering her mouth. She moaned and arched against him. He growled back at her, biting her lip, tasting her mouth, reveling in the curve of her ass in his hand and the swell of her breasts against his chest. He wanted skin against skin.
He broke contact and pulled away. Chloe’s knees buckled slight and she stared at him with dilated pupils. Her lips were pink and swollen... so very tempting.
“Don’t you get it? I’m a monster. I will devour everything innocent and good and then spit you out. I... can’t...” Lex hated the edge of desperation in his voice. He was weak.
Chloe straightened up blinking her eyes at him. She swallowed and licked her lips. Lex controlled a groan.
“Don’t flatter yourself, Lex. You’re not a monster. If I hadn’t been interested, things never would have gotten this far. And there’s no way you could destroy everything innocent in me with...” She blushed and stopped. Then she cleared her throat and narrowed her eyes, “...sex? I mean, come on. Who do you think you are?”
Lex laughed. He knew it sounded bitter but he couldn’t help himself. “My God, Chloe. I’m a Luthor. Didn’t you get the memo?”
Chloe frowned and straightened her clothing. “Well, Lex, all I can say is that, having been at the receiving end of Papa and Junior Luthor... you are not a monster. Your father likes that I hate him. That’s what he finds attractive about me. Would you say that’s true of you?”
Lex stared at her, concern tightening in his belly. He ignored it. Emotions were a weakness. That he desired her so much... weakness again. “How can you be so sure, Chloe? Maybe he finds you fascinating for the same reasons I do.”
Chloe blushed and dropped her eyes. “I know because he told me so.”
“When? Oh god, what did my father do?” The words were out of his mouth before he stop them.
“Nothing, really. Nothing except... scare the shit out of me. Why do you value his opinion so much Lex? If he wasn’t a monster once, he is now. What does he have that you want so much?”
“I want him to love me. It’s the only thing I’ve ever wanted from him.” He chuckled quietly to himself. He’d never said that out loud, not even in the confines of his own mind. “Help me Chloe. Help me remember.”
“Did it ever occur to you that your father went to extreme lengths to insure those memories were erased. Helping you could put me in a great deal of danger. Do you still want my help?” Chloe asked him, stepping closer to him.
“No. Yes.” He gritted his teeth, uncertain of the answer. “Get out.”
“Lex...”
“I said get out!” He shouted at her. Chloe looked at him thoughtfully, and left.
Lex picked up a decanter of scotch and threw it against the wall.
