CHAPTER TWENTY ONE
“Oh.”
Then thinking to herself
“Amazing. I can’t believe he got me to forget so quickly. I am
definitely going to have to keep him around.”
He released her hands once he was pretty sure she did not
intend to fight him again, John instead was pleased to feel her
pull him into a genuine hug before saying
“I don’t know what I did to deserve getting you in my life, but
I don’t ever want to let you go.”
Pulling back slightly he looked her in the eyes with such
loving sincerity that a tear fell down her cheek.
Jane wasn’t even aware it had happened until he reached up to
wipe it away saying
“You don’t have to worry about that. I don’t have any plans on
loosing you. There is no way I could loose you ever, I love you
to much.”
Reaching up to touch his cheek she thought to herself once
again
“I swear if this is all just a dream I am going to loose my
mind. Then again if it is I don’t ever want to wake up.”
Jane having been lost in thought was suddenly brought back
when she was overcome by a huge unexpected yawn.
In a tone that could soothe a wild beast John said
“It is late, and you are tired. Do you think you can sleep, or do
you want to wait a little while?”
Tensing a bit as her nightmare suddenly started flooding
back, she tried to decide if she wanted to even attempt it so
soon, but stopped when John said
“Wait, I have an idea.”
Then springing from the bed, John jogged for the bathroom
before returning quickly with several candles in hand.
“John we can’t burn any candles if we plan to sleep.”
“I know. I just remembered Kathleen always says that vanilla
naturally soothes a person when they are upset, or stressed.
She said that is why she has so many of these all over.”
Impressed, she said
“In that case remind me to by myself at least a years worth
when we get home.”
After placing several candles near the bed, John quickly
crawled back under the covers, pulling Jane as close as he could
not wanting to loose contact with her for another second, before
asking
“Better?”
Already yawning thoroughly enjoying the overwhelming
scent of vanilla that had taken over, she simply moaned in a
very pleased tone while wrapping her arms, and a leg around
him.
“Much, thank you.”
John tilted his head far enough to kiss her on the tip of her nose
saying
“Goodnight.”
Jane already asleep just pulled in closer in response to his
touch.
Taking a deep breath of the vanilla, John closed his eyes
thankful to be with the person he cared about more than
anything in the world before he himself was falling into a
deep slumber.
Early the next morning
Smelling the aroma of fresh flowers slowly awakened Jane
with a pleasant smile. Stretching out expecting to feel John the
second she moved, but instead finding a large assortment of
wild flower petals scattered all over the bed causing it to be
what she guessed would have been like waking up in a huge
field of the beautiful array.
Scooping up a handful of the pedals, and giggling, Jane called
out
“John?”
John having been just outside relaxing in a nearby tree was
able to hear Jane as soon as she started giggling and was
already on his way back into the cabin.
Just when she was about to call out his name again, she looked
up at the doorway, and saw John standing there watching her
with a silly grin.
“Do you like them?”
Asked John
“There so beautiful. Yes I love them, thank you.”
Answered Jane reaching out for him to join her.
Walking slowly like the natural hunter he was made her blush
instantly forcing herself to look away in hopes of keeping him
from noticing again.
“Are you feeling better?”
Asked John standing at the bottom of the bed instead of
joining her.
Lifting her leg, and moving her foot around to inspect for any
swelling, Jane replied with
“I can hardly tell I even hurt it just looking. It is still a little
sore unfortunately.”
Having been planning what to do that day, John slowly began
to climb from the bottom of the bed on his knuckles, and knees
very low directly above her saying
“Do you think you are up for a new lesson today?”
Already getting an adrenaline rush from his actions caused
Jane to have a sort of delayed reaction to his question before
answering him.
Clearing her throat first she said
“Um, I don’t know. I guess it depends on what you have in
mind.”
Looking up at her with pure mischief in his eyes, and that
unbelievably gorgeous smirk of his she already knew her
answer, but waited to hear what he said first.
“Concentration in strange situations.”
Raising an eyebrow, Jane looked doubtful and asked
“I’m not sure what you mean.”
Leaning in to just barely brush his lips along her neck until
she shivered to prove his point he said
“See, you need to concentrate.”
As he went for her ear she tried to protest saying
“Most perps don’t suck on various parts of my body, usually
anyways.”
Seeing him back up with a territorial look, Jane started to
laugh happy she had annoyed him just as much as his
comment had to her.
Putting up her hands as if to hold him back in case he really
was as upset as he seemed to be with the look he was giving her
she quickly stopped laughing and said
“Woe Hold on there. As far as I can remember you’re the only
one who has ever laid a finger on me, and that was because I
was unconscious. Which come to think of was kind of, oh
never mind.”
“That was not funny”
Stated John before reaching down to mark her neck as if to
say that she was his and no one else’s.
Feeling her entire body go instantly hotter as soon as he
started sucking on her neck, Jane pushed on his chest saying
“O.k. don’t start this already, or we will never get anything
done today.”
Moving at near lightning speed, John was off of the bed, and
scooping her up in his arms heading for the table outside were
he had a nice selection of fruits waiting.
“Wow, been up for awhile huh?”
Said Jane as she reached for a pear.”
Both of them jumped in surprise at hearing a phone ringing
suddenly.
“I didn’t know Sam had a phone out here.”
Said Jane attempting to stand up, only to have John place a
hand firmly on her shoulder to keep her sitting.
“No, I will get it.”
Having said that, John heading in to find where it was.
Thinking to himself
“How did Jane work these things again.”
Finding it farley quickly, John picked up the receiver
remembering that Jane always pushed a button not realizing
that this one was not a cordless.
Pushing a random button and putting the phone to his ear,
John waited hoping he had done it write.
“Hello, Jane is that you.”
Said a hesitant Sam.
Recognizing the voice as Sam, John stated
“No”
“Oh John how is everything? Is Jane alright?”
Asked a relieved Sam.
“Fine. She is outside.”
Answered John.
“Glad to here it. Can I talk to her?”
Sam asked laughing a little at how uncomfortable John
seemed to be.
“She cant walk yet, should I go carry her in here?”
Now starting to panic Sam asked
“What do you mean she can’t walk? What happened?”
Pulling the phone away from his face a little to keep Sam from
shouting or shrieking into his ear John said
“She slipped and hurt her ankle, but she is a lot better now.
She can’t walk on it yet so she does not hurt it again.”
A little calmer now Sam asked
“Are you sure, I mean if she needs to have it looked at I can
come get her?”
“She said it is fine.”
John said a little annoyed at the thought of him coming to
take Jane away.
Jane only heariart art of the conversation was chuckling at
the swift change of emotions she was noticing. Figuring it
had to be Sam since John was still talking, Jane simply sat
back and moved on to an orange.
Hearing a branch crack to her left, Jane looked up to see a
familiar looking wolf checking her out. Feeling a little
panicked at not knowing what to do, she froze praying that it
would not get any closer, and nearly stopped breathing when
it slowly began walking towards her.
Finishing with his conversation, John headed back outside and
noticed a new scent very close.
Smiling as if a long lost friend was suddenly there, John
casually walked out to where the wolf had sat down. Stopping
a couple of feet in front of it so as to not seem as if he was
being a challenge or anything, John held out his hand.
Smelling the air, then moving closer to smell his hand the
wolf moved in to continue the inspection, while John started to
pet it.
Jane still frozen in place suddenly realized she had not taken
a breath yet.
Thinking to herself
“I can’t believe how he is able to just go up to a wild animal like
that with no problem.”
Then thinking of the last couple of days with him she
continued
“Then again the last few encounters we have had prove he is
just as much a wild animal when he wants to be.”
Then laughing at he own thought.
John looked back at her placing a finger to his lips signaling
for her to stay quiet, so she would not frighten the animal.
Motioning for the wolf to move on for now, John headed back to
Jane with a big smile asking
“Are you almost ready to go?”
Looking up at him with a confused look she asked
“Wait a second. First thing’s first, what did Sam have to
say?”
“He will stop in at some point today, or tomorrow to bring some
things.”
John stated, while picking her up in his arms.
“Wow! What are doing?”
Said Jane a little surprised.
“You have to get ready so we can start your next lesson.”
Was the only explaining he gave while heading inside.
Once they were all ready to go, John had her get on his back.
Still curious about exactly what he had in mind, Jane asked
“How exactly are we going to do this?”
“Patients.”
John said half teasing.
“Very funny.”
Jane said squeezing her legs tighter around his waist to show
her frustration.
Already having been holding on to her upper legs to prevent
any extra jarring near her lower legs, John shifted his hands
farther up her legs so he could squeeze her thighs in response.
“Hey that’s not fair.”
Screeched Jane.
Picking up his pace since they were almost there, John stated
“I never said I played fair.”
Just when she was about to argue back, John came to an abrupt
stop saying
“Were here, What do you think?”
Looking around she was amazed at how incredible the area
truly was.
There was a small creek, with overhanging trees all along it,
and John had obviously been here earlier, because of the
blankets spread out next to a opening to the most incredible
field filled with wild flowers she had ever seen.
“Unbelievable.”
Was all she could say.
Setting her down on the blanket, John reached for one of the
spare ones to place behind her head before instructing,
“Lay back, and close your eyes.”
Looking over at him in surprise Jane asked
“Excuse me?”
Smirking at her reaction, John simply explained
“You have to relax completely for this to work. Now lay back
so we can get started.”
Doing as instructed, she laid back using the spare blanket as
a pillow.
Looking up at him expectantly, Jane waited for his next move.
Taking two fingers, John gently brushed them over her eyelids
saying
“Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to calm your
heartbeat.”
Satisfied that she was cooperating so well he continued his
instructions
“Now you need to be able to stay perfectly calm no matter what
is going on around you. Strange sounds of any kind should
not matter. All that matters is that you keep your heartbeat
from going any faster. You need to teach your body to stay
calm in any situation in order to remain safe.”
Thinking to herself
“Oh sure easy for him to say. He’s been doing this all of his
life. Wait a minute what does he mean strange sounds of any
kind?”
Tensing at her thoughts Jane started to open her eyes while
attempting to sit up, but finding John squatting next to her
with one arm on her shoulder pressing her back down, and the
other brushing her eyes closed again while saying
“Trust me. Now relax, and do what I said.”
Giving in finally, Jane forced herself to relax, and focused on
her heartbeat as instructed.
Once she had focused on her heartbeat, she began to notice the
sounds all around her finding herself almost lulled into a
trance like feeling.
Hearing her heartbeat even out, John carefully moved away
from her to a nearby tree to begin.
Moving from treetree to the next was simple for him to do
silently, however wanting to be less discrete he made sure to
break a few branches on his way.
Not having realized John had left her side so soon, Jane was a
little startled to here branches breaking nearby.
Thinking to herself
“Oh come on it was just a couple of branches, just chill out.
There is no way I am going to give in to something like that so
soon. He would never let me live it down.”
Deciding to ignore the sounds, she forced herself to once again
focus on the creek finding herself relaxing quicker than
expected.
Having moved away from her as far as possible while still
being able to see her John let out a wolf cry with pride thinking
“I have really missed this.”
Jumping in shock Jane thought
“Trust me. Yeah right, I better be able to trust you.”
Surprised to see that she was not getting up in fear, John
moved quickly to the opposite side of her while remaining at a
distance before repeating himself.
Looking in the direction he had just come from at the sound of
another wolf howling, John smiled in amusement that he had
been answered.
Jane’s heartbeat speed up doing double time the instant she
heard to second animals howling on opposite sides of her in
such a short amount of time that even as fast as he was could
not have been John.
Feeling very confident that, Jane was in no danger from the
new arrival, John simply repeated his wolf call.
Chanting over and over in her head
“Just breathe, just breathe, just breathe. Urg, no wonder
everyone says never trust a man who tells you to “trust me“.
What am I saying, I can trust him. John would never let
anything happen to me.”
Then hearing a branch break a lot closer than expected, Jane
flinched wanting to get up and run, but knew that would not
work due to her ankle.
John decided to keep the same distance between himself and
Jane as the wolf was in case she panicked, and frightened the
animal suddenly.
Forcing herself to do as he had instructed, Jane took a few deep
breaths while focusing on her heartbeat. Thankfully it began
to slow faster than expected, and she was finally starting to
relax regardless of the fact that she knew the animal had come
even closer once again.
John wanting to reassure Jane that she was safe, decided to
lean down close to her face, and very lightly brush his fingers
along her cheek, before saying
“Your doing great, just remember to breathe, and don’t panic.”
While John had gotten so close to Jane the wolf had come closer
as well, and was now at her leg inspecting.
Then thinking to herself
“Amazing. I can’t believe he got me to forget so quickly. I am
definitely going to have to keep him around.”
