The Hit

Chapter 2

The Hit

~One week earlier~

“Hey,” Andrew whispered to his partner, Kevin, “When is this guy supposed to show? We’ve been here for over an hour.”

Kevin sighed and rested his hands on the steering wheel. It’s true, the guy they were ordered to make a contract with was late and their boss wasn’t really the patience type.

“We’ll wait a little longer and then report back to the boss. It’s unusual for this guy to be late and he might have run into trouble.” Kevin replied.

They’d chosen to meet in a dark alley with a professional Hitman they needed to contract for a job. The alley was about as typical as one would expect, with trash cans strewn about the area and a wet, dirty smell in the air due to the frequent rain. The alley was secluded but someone might get suspicious of a car parked in an alley for too long, and they really didn’t need the police getting in the way. Their boss also isn’t the understanding type.

The clapping of feet reached Kevin’s ears and he slapped his partner’s shoulder, “’ey, we have company.”

His assumption was proved true when a few moments later a person walked into the alley opposite from them. They couldn’t quite see the person clearly but they knew it was him. The person walked right up to the front of the car and then stopped. He stayed just beyond the light from the car, so his face was hidden.

“Well, let’s get this over with,” Andrew and they both opened their doors and stepped out.

Kevin motioned for Andrew to stick near the car and walked up to the person. The man was a medium build but obviously muscular, although the long trench coat covered up most of his body, and Kevin noticed his hands were also covered in dark blue gloves.

A chuckle came forth from the person and he crossed his arms, “Yes, I’m Aydrian. Let’s get the formality crap out of the way.”

Kevin smirked and replied, “Well, you certainly like to fit the part don’t you? Trench coat, black clothes in a dark alley, and I bet if I could see your face you’re wearing shades.”

Aydrian shrugged, “I’m a traditionalist. What kind of job do you have for me?”

“He wants to get right down to business,” Kevin thought silently, “Fine with me.”

He pulled a large envelope out of his jacket and handed it over. Aydrian opened it up and took out a picture of a young woman.

“Her name is Gloria Pratt. She’s the key witness in a murder trial coming up and my boss would like to make sure she doesn’t testify.” Kevin explained.

“Hmm,” Aydrian sighed and memorized how she looked, another soon to be corpse in his minds portfolio of everyone he has ever murdered. “It’s a shame, she’s cute.” He put the picture back in the envelope and took out his payment, fifty thousand. He looked up at Kevin curiously, surprised at the advanced payment.

“Your reputation speaks very highly of you. My boss is paying you in advance, and might pay you even more if you finish the job quickly.” Kevin said.

“Ah, I see,” Aydrian slipped the envelope into his coat and just as Kevin was going to turn to leave Aydrian pulled a silenced pistol out of his coat. Before Kevin had time to react two bullets pierced his chest, tearing through both lungs, and a third bullet caught him right between the eyes. He was dead long before he hit the ground.

Andrew was shocked but reacted quickly, able to pull out his gun before a bullet pierced his heart and tore through his spine. He fell to the ground and was alive just long enough to see Aydrian walk away.

“Thanks for the job,” Aydrian called back over his shoulder as he disappeared down the alley.

~Back to present~

Booth groaned as he looked at his car, almost completely buried in a mountain of snow. With a large shovel in hand, he proceeded to dig his car out.

“Just great,” He thought to himself, “Two weeks of vacation and mother nature is going to make me late to work.” Booth had enjoyed every minute with Parker, who had returned to his mother and Captain Fantastic the previous day, but he was happy to go back to work. That is if he could make it there.

The last two weeks have been a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions, and all because of that stupid kiss. Booth couldn’t remember the last time a kiss made him nearly speechless, or a kiss that made him hard as a rock, but that kiss with Bones had done exactly that. He noticed that she’s very beautiful, he is male and he has eyes after all, but letting it become more than just his imagination was a line he refused to cross.

Then they were blackmailed and not only did they cross the line, they jumped over it. Now he was bothered by the exact thing he was afraid of in the first place: He wanted to kiss her again. No doubt this was going to cause them to be uncomfortable with each other during the job and that could be dangerous where a mistake could result in someone’s death.

Booth sighed and finally unburied his car. Sinking into his thoughts had once again made his body work automatically. He yanked his car door open and put the key in the ignition and turned it, but the car wouldn’t start. “God really hates me today.” He mumbled aloud and turned the key again, but once again nothing happened.

He could probably fix the problem if he had more time, but he was scheduled to come in early to start digging through the pile of work he couldn’t do while he was gone. He pulled his cellular phone out of his jacket and flicked it open.

“God, I really shouldn’t do this.” Booth said but hit speed dial for Bones’ cell anyway.

Brennan was about to leave her house when her phone started ringing. She flicked it open and the id said “Booth” with a small picture of his smiling face she remembered taking over a year back. A smile spread across her lips and she accepted the call.

“Hello, Booth.” She answered and relieved to hear him chuckle on the other end. She was afraid talking to him again would be a little awkward but she didn’t detect any of that in his voice.

“Hey there, Bones.” His voice sounded kind of cheerful, which is probably due to the two weeks of fun he had with his son. “As much as I’d hate to ask you to go out of your way, do you think you could come to my house and pick me up? My car won’t start, and I’m going to be late.”

He sounds almost hopeful that she will pick him up, but maybe that’s just her imagination.

“Sure, no problem, I’d like to know how your vacation with Parker was.” She replied and could practically hear Booth smile.

“Thanks Bones,” Booth said, “Uh when you get here just come on inside.”

“That’s odd,” She thought to herself, “Didn’t he say he was about to be late?”

“Ok, I’ll see you in about ten minutes.” She replied, “Bye.”

She sighed when she turned off her phone and wondered why he wanted her to come inside his house when he was in a hurry. Did he want to talk about what happened? No, if he wanted to do that they could just talk on their way to work. Did he…did he want to kiss her again?

With that thought in mind her face flushed slightly and she exited her house. “He couldn’t possibly;” Her mind tried to argue, “Booth just isn’t like that.” While her mind warred with her feelings, she couldn’t help but hope she was wrong as she got in her car.

“Booth is probably more level headed about this than I am. I bet he hasn’t thought about it since.” She thought aloud and turned on her car. As she drove out of her driveway she couldn’t help but hope it had been on his mind as much as it had been on hers.

That too annoyed her.

~Author's Note~
Well here's the next chapter, and no it doesn't have anything erotic. I'm going to attempt to add a story to this and add a villain, Aydrian, who will pretty much serve as the complete opposite to Booth. He'll be someone with is really good at killing people and good with a gun.

As you can see, both Booth and Brennan are having a hard time dealing with the kiss. I'm making this so difficult for them because both of them had always been so adamant about not crossing that line between friend and lover, but they were forced to cross it and how good it felt surprised them. This inner turmoil will create some difficult choices, which is what I believe would happen on the show.

Thanks to everyone who left a review so far. It's very appreciated. :)
