A Pause for Reflection
There they stood. Two adults and two kids, all willing to participate in something none of them would have remotely considered a week ago.
For Dean, the situation was happening a bit too quickly to comprehend. He really hadn't had time to process any of this, but rationalized it in his mind as a "once-in-a-lifetime-oppotunity" happening. It was just something a guy wasn't suppose to pass up.
For Rory, the situation was beyond her wildest dreams. The innocent good girl facade she had worn all these years had been ripped off, and her perverted, uninhibited true self was in complete control. A foursome with her mom and two guys was tame in comparison with the fantasies she held inside.
For Lorelai, the situation had taken a turn for the better. Luke had betrayed her after the Friday night dinner, but she realized why. The man had been in love with her. Over time, the love turned to lust, and then to desperation. She wasn't for sure if he had planned the whole thing from the beginning, or if he got the idea after the offer to loan the money for Chilton, but he saw it as his only opportunity to have her, and put it all on the line. Lorelai reminded herself that Luke had given her the option to leave and keep what he had already given her. That was a risky move, but it worked. She gave in, and his plan succeeded . . . to an extent. He didn't anticipate Rory listening in, and Lorelai didn't anticipate her daughter being even more extremely perverted than herself.
For Luke, the situation revealed that underneath the surface of our moral exteriors, there lies urges that most never act on, but can be released when the secrets of others are revealed. It had all started with him. Rory broke free when she witnessed her mom and Luke's surprising transaction. When Lorelai discovered Rory's work, she knew she could drop her cover as well. Once everyone knows that everyone else is as fucked-up as they are, acting normal would just seem fake.
So with one just in it for the ride, one living her fantasy, one relieved by the passing and coming events, and one with a new understanding of the world, they went where they only now, with their true selves revealed, could go.
