hell and high water

(this is my first fanfiction, so any feed back you have will be greatly appresiated but please try to be kind. ^_^ )

I woke up panting and in a sweat. My dyed green and aqua hair clung to my skin. Well at least it looked light outside the motel window we’d set off soon. I’d had another nightmare but I guess that wasn’t going to stop any time soon, so much for a dream vacation, let’s go to America for my 25th birthday we said go travelling across the country maybe stop off at Disney world, jeeze that had been a bad idea but then again we didn’t think about there being a zombie apocalypse. And so here we were wandering around a country we didn’t know trying to just get by the best we could, so why stop the trip right? Money and the law were no longer a problem. We’ll keep heading north tomorrow see what we could find, that was the plan...if you could call it that.

The warm body next to me moaned and turned over to face me, a peaceful angelic face framed by fiery red hair, even though she was only 2 years younger than me she had always looked so young and fragile while sleeping, too bad you’d realise better when she woke up. Anna had been like family to me for years now. We’d left both our families and partners back in England, this was supposed to have been our chance of a life time and I guess it still is... just not the type we were thinking of. But I was glad to have her with me, a little piece of my old life to keep me grounded plus she was a good fighter and would always have my back. She yawned as her hazel/green eyes flickered open “jeeze woman stop watching me sleep” she moaned as she sat up in the bed reaching for her smoking supplies.  “Well it’s not like there’s anything else to do, plus you know you look so cute while you sleep!” I jibbed and joined her for a morning cig “really have you seen this?” she said while indicating her hair “well beat it with a brush or something I was planning on setting off in an hour or two” I said as I started to get dressed.

I pulled on my jeans, boots and my black tank top. I ran a brush through my hair, threw on some dark eye makeup and red lipstick. As I grabbed my black leather jacket, bike lid and back pack I called to Anna “you ready yet?” “Yer I’m coming now” she replied as she walked out of the bathroom fully dressed and gathered her stuff from around the room. “You got everything?” I asked as I scanned the room checking for anything missed “have YOU got everything? Miss didn’t realise she’d forgot her lid till we were riding away.” She retorted. “Ok, fair point.” We grabbed our stuff and walked out of the motel room and over to the bikes, Anna’s lipstick red Honda fireblade and my blue Honda rebel that we had chained up to a railings, lucky for us we were in the middle of nowhere so not many zombies or people hunting for stuff, the few zombies there had been we disposed of last night. We loaded up the bikes, filled the saddle bags, strapped the tent and sleeping bags on, that kind of thing and set off north towards Atlanta.

We’d been riding for a about an hour or two when we spotted a lone figure walking towards us on the road, I looked to Anna nodding to the guy, she shrugged in reply and signalled to pull over. The guy only looked young, Asian and he was on his own, no harm right? He stopped a little way off from us and started to look around like he was debating whether or not to make a run for it. “Wait! Don’t run!” I yelled as I pulled off my gloves and lid as quickly as they would allow. “Look we’re not gonna hurt you! We’re just... we just need... help I guess...” Anna had finally managed to get her lid off. The guy came closer “what kind of help?” he asked still clearly wondering if this was a good idea. “Look where not from around here, like really not from around here, and well company would be a start. Maybe you could tell us where to get some food or a place to stay. Anything you could do for us would be a big help, we don’t know anyone here and you’re the first person we’ve met since the world went to shit.” I said my hands still palms out in front of me like that was the only thing stopping him from leaving. “I might be able to help you if you tell me where you are from? Maybe give you directions on how best to get their or something.” He asked. “I doubt it, not unless you know where to get a plane and a pilot.” Anna snapped, “Sorry but she’s right, we’re from England so directions to home won’t help us Hun.” I felt my eyes start to water as hit me all over again that chances are we’d never make it home, I blinked the forming tears away quickly. “Oh god... I’m so sorry. I didn’t... look in that case we have a camp up ahead you can come with me, I’ll show you.” The guy said panicking “you sure?” I said the idea of a camp sounded like heaven to my ears at that moment “yer totally.” He said starting to relax. I was now beaming from ear to ear “it’s greatly appreciated ...?” “Oh right... sorry. Glenn” “well thanks Glenn. That fiery red head is Anna and I’m Bex.” I said holding out my hand to shake his “Erm... If you get on back I’ll ride slow with my lid off and you can direct me from there, plus saves you walking” I smiled reassuringly as Glenn nervously climbed on to the back of the bike. “Don’t worry as long as you hold on there’s no chance of you falling off.” I said with a grin as I started the bike and rode off with Anna right behind.
