Not Dead!

 

The snow fell slowly from the sky and the Christmas cheer was in the air. As I stood in front of that door of such a familiar blue. I could actually feel my hearts pounding out of my chest. It was rare for me to be so afraid.  I had let my two best friends think I was dead. I knew I would break their hearts. So badly.  But I did it anyway. It was what needed to be done at the time. I needed to disappear. The doctor, The legend needed to die.

 

To tell River was a whim, a spur of the moment thing.

 

Some party of me hoped that river would ignore my words and she would tell them. But at the same time I hope she didn’t. It would have been better.

 

But I was starting to see that I missed the ponds. I was better with them around.

 

My hand knocked on the door and I heard that o so familiar voice of my Amelia. My best friend and my mother in law. Scary thought that is.

 

I know that time moves at a constant speed. I know that, but those few seconds before she spoke. Time slowed down I swear it!

 

I know I hurt her. I know that. I might not be human. But I am not without emotion. We banter; I am relieved that River told her. At least she doesn’t have to live thinking me dead, after what happened in that parallel world.

 

As her arms close around me I feel some of the ice around my heart melt. I have had companions. Rose was even someone I could have loved at one time. I know my former re-incarnation did. He was foolishly in love with her.

 

He thought of Sara-Jane, Martha and all the others the countless faces and friends.

 

But Amy and Rory- they were something ells and as they invite me in for Christmas dinner. It slowly stat to dawn on me what the difference is.

“That’s because we always do. It’s Christmas, you moron!” Amy says as she moves inside the house.
