The Pregant Superman
Story title: The Pregnant Superman
Summary: Lois and Clark was married for five and a half year, but the romance and the spark between them frizzled out. So the two of them get a mutual divorce. That's when Clark faces a new problem—He discovered that Male Kryptonians can choose to be the one to carry a baby instead of the females if the females doesn't want to get pregnant. And worse—his biological clock is ticking so he's compelled to get pregnant regardless of the consequences.
The question is, what impact will a pregnant Superman have on the world? Is Clark, or the world, even ready for it? Or will his Alien impulses completely overpower his rational side?
A Mpreg story, with a little bit of Alien por farr thrown in.
Author Notes/ Warnings: It's mostly a future Smallville fan-fiction, with a little bit of the DC Universe thrown in. For instance... I've always loved Superboy's origins. Connor aka Kon-El, is basically the test tube baby of Lex and Clark in the DC comics. Come on, that makes every slash fan stand up and take notice!
So naturally I had to induce him here, and have him reacting somewhat negatively to the fact that Clark wants to get pregnant. So this is naturally a Smallville AU universe.
Lex and Clark never broke up their friendship over Lana Lang, but over something else entirely.
Lex was never completely evil in Smallville, so I don't believe that Lex would have created Kon-El for evil purposes like he did in the DC universe. So Kon-El in Smallville wouldn't be a sleeper agent at all, just a regular young man who happens to have superpowers.
Pairings: Clark/Lex with a hint of Clark/Lois (in past flashbacks). Kon-El/ Wonder Girl with a hint of Kon-El / Tim (robin).
================================================
Clark was somewhat depressed, although with good reason.
You see, it was his sixth week of being a newly divorced man. Even though he and Lois mutually agreed to go their separate ways, it still hurt at times.
He honestly thought that Lois had been right for him, and that they would be together forever. For a while there, it certainly looked like it would happen that way. But it turned out that Clark and Lois wanted different things in life.
Clark wanted the quiet family life. He wanted a house with that white picket fence, complete with children and a dog. He supposed it was true.... The farm boy could live the city life but you still can't take the farm out of the boy. Or something like that.
Of course, trying to have a quiet life was kind of hard to do when you were friggin' Superman, but he still wouldn't be able to give up his superhero gig for anything in the world.
Lois didn't want children at all, and preferred to focus on her career. In fact in their last conversation regarding the topic of children she said that she wasn't really cut out to be a mother at all. She also enjoyed the fast track lifestyle, and being in the public eye. So for her, children was completely out of the question.
Come to think of it, the only thing they had in common was that they both enjoyed being a journalist, and all the benefits it had for them. They shared that bond, and worked together well at the Daily Planet as a result. The only difference between them in this regard was that Lois was practically married to her job. She viewed it as a way of life while Clark didn't. Clark mainly viewed it as more of a Job, albeit one that he liked doing most of the time.
That had been one of the main problems in their marriage. They had been married for five years and it always came around to the two of them never being around for each other whenever they needed the intimacy that married couples usually had. Between his second job as Superman and her tendency to overwork herself regarding hot story leads, the only time they usually had for each other was very late at night, and even then it was usually just sex before hitting the sack. That is, if they both even had any energy left for sex. Otherwise they just went straight to bed without talking to each other much.
The only time that they actually sat down together and talked with each other was at the daily planet. And even then it was usually more about work than personal matters. At that point, they might as well had been just girlfriend and boyfriend who casually slept with each other once in a while.
Clark remembered a past time when Lois and Clark actually had time for each other, long before they had been married. Clark liked Lois's spunk and how she tackled life itself with such a fearless spirit. He also found her hot.
Lois also found Clark to be attractive as hell, and liked his Farm boy charm. She even found his nerdy side somewhat endearing even if she did like to make fun of him for it. And she was even more in love with his Superman persona.
The two of them thought that alone enough was enough to make a marriage work. Apparently there was so much more to making a successful marriage, because the romance and the attraction just kind of fizzled out after a long while. Granted, it took years for that to happen but still. They had even gone to a marriage counselor about it, it had gotten so bad.
It was at this point that Clark suddenly started to feel his biological clock ticking, where he wanted children rather badly. In Clark-like fashion, he got kind of obsessed with the idea of having children, even going far to suggest to Lois that if she refused to get pregnant as that would hurt her career, they could adopt kids instead. He even latched on to the idea that kids might even fix whatever problem they were having between the two of them.
Lois had gotten annoyed with this, and pretty much pointed out that Clark already had Kon-El as a son. And he could go off and play papa with him. She also had delivered the cold blow of reality that getting pregnant to fix a marriage was ALWAYS a bad idea... and if anything the burden of kids would only make the stress of a failed marriage worse.
Kon-El was basically the teenage clone of Superman-- Or so Clark had thought. Later on Clark had discovered that he was actually more than just a clone-- that Kon actually also had Lex Luthor's DNA. So in some weird way, Kon-El was actually Clark and Lex's son via a cloning process. There was times when Clark wondered what Lex Luthor had been thinking when he blended together his and Superman's DNA together to make Kon-El.
Not that he was complaining—He had actually come to love Kon-El as his true son and even had him living with Ma Kent as Connor Kent so that Kon-El could have a normal life outside of his superhero gig. He had even enrolled “Connor” into the same high school in Smallville he had gone to as a kid... so that he could learn how to socialize with normal humans. In fact Clark often commented that creating Kon-El had been the only right thing Lex had done recently so far.
But even so... it still weren't the same somehow. For one thing, Kon-El was a teenager and practically grown up anyway. He wanted the experience of rearing a baby into adulthood, dammit.
-------------------------------------------------------------
“Hey, Clark.” A voice said.
Speaking of the devil, he was here now.
Clark looked up from his seat to see Kon-El walking towards him.
“What are you doing here in the fortress? Still moping over your divorce?” Kon-El asked.
Clark sighed. “Well, I can't exactly go live in the apartment while Lois is still there, can I?”
Kon-El frowned. “True. But I thought Lois and you were still friends with each other and that you two both agreed that it wasn't working out for the two of you. So I'm sure Lois wouldn't have minded at all if you stayed there while you were searching for a new place to live.”
Clark smiled. “You'll understand when you have a girlfriend that you broke up with. Lois and I are still good friends and I trust her enough with all my secrets. However.... despite the fact that we're newly divorced there's still the chance that we could still end up having.... well, you know.”
He blushed slightly, not being able to say the word sex in front of his clone son.
“Oh.” Kon-El knew what he meant anyway, but he still frowned. “What's so bad about getting laid by your ex if you two still like each other well enough? In fact if you two still could find each other attractive enough to have sex why are you two separating anyway?”
Clark shook his head. “Ever heard of dependency actually being a bad thing? I don't want Lois to become a friend with benefits, I just want her to be a true friend to me. I don't want to come running to her every time I feel even slightly horny. It would also impede any chances of me finding somebody else down the road. Plus, what happens if she ended up finding somebody else? Then the whole thing would just get awkward fast.”
Kon-El nodded in understanding, now that everything was cleared up for him. “I see what you mean about that now. I have to say, I'm glad I'm not you... your relationships tend to be way too complicated sometimes.”
“Heh. You think my relationships are complicated right now, you should have seen me when I was your age. I had ten times more teenage angst than you ever did, and I kept on coming back to my ex-girlfriend Lana Lang in Smallville. In fact, we got back together and broke up more times than I can count... and every breakup we had always become worst than the last one. The last breakup I had with her was a real dozy... It was almost more painful than Kryptonite itself. That was when I decided I finally had enough of Lana and all of her drama.” Clark told Kon all this, with a self-decperating smile.
Kon-El raised his eyebrows, unable to picture his father as a teenager and actually dating somebody.... besides Lois, that is. “Wow.”
Clark nodded at his son's expression. “Yeah. That's basically the other reason why I refuse to live with Lois right now while I look for another place. I don't want her to turn into another Lana Lang. But enough of this topic... why are you here?”
Kon-El grinned. “Well, Ma Kent got all worried about you staying up here in the arctic fortress for so long, and sent me to ask you if you would come stay at the Farmhouse with us while you look for that new place. In fact, she wondered why you choose to stay up here instead of staying with us.”
It was at this point Clark started to look sheepish. “Uh... Well, I was going to stay with mom and you originally but then I discovered a biological fact about the Kryptonian race that kind of freaked me out. So I was staying up here so I could have some time to get used to it.”
“What biological fact??” Kon-El couldn't help but look concerned.
Clark fidgeted. “Well, it's kind of embarrassing, and I don't want to tell anybody yet.”
Kon-El sighed. “Look, I'm a Kryptonian too you know. If it's affecting you then it might affect me too eventually. So you have to tell me those things beforehand so I don't freak out! Or put myself in an embarrassing situation.”
This did make sense to Clark. So Clark chuckled nervously as he told Kon: “Let's just say that our people have a lot in common with Mister Seahorse.”
“What?” Kon-El just looked confused, not being familiar with that particular aquatic creature.
“Well, I was up here consulting with Jor-El about why I was feeling such a strong urge to have kids.” Clark answered, “You do know about my latest obsession with having kids, right?”
Kon-El just nodded, looking slightly uneasy. To be honest, he didn't know what to feel about his father wanting more kids. He almost had this irrational fear that Clark didn't really see him as a son, just as a clone and that once Clark had kids the old-fashioned way he was going to ignore Kon-El completely.
Hell, it had been a long time before Clark had finally gotten around to treating him like a son instead of just a clone that he didn't trust.
“Well.... I don't know how to tell you this, so I'll have Jor-El tell you this. Jor-El!” Clark yelled for the AI's attention.
“Yes, Kal-El. You wish me to tell Kon-El what I told you?” The booming voice of the AI said, as the holographic face of his biological father appeared.
Clark nodded. “Yes.”
//flashback//
He flew all the way to the Fortress of Solitude to have a little chat with his holographic father. He repeated everything he had spoken with both Lois and his mother about, word for word. He then asked: “So what do you think, Jor-El? I would be able to have children normally without any problems? I also would love to hear your viewpoint on whenever I should hold off on having children or not.”
“Kal-El, I am pleased that you have finally decided to start repopulating the Kryptonian race with your offspring. And you should not worry whenever you are biologically compatible or not. For you see, one of the reasons why Lara-El and I decided to send you to Earth and not any other planets was because of the fact that Humans and Kryptonians are very similar biologically.” Jor-El paused, and then decided to educate his son about the theory he had been studying in the past before he had died.
“In fact, when I was still alive I was researching Earth as a potential refugee for our people, I noticed this. I hypothesized that Earth was originally one of Krypton's lost colonies when we first become a space-faring race. Back then, we had not yet discovered genetic engineering in order to remove all the genetic defects we had. So we were like the humans in many ways; we were so fragile that we could easily die from anything. We were also in the middle of a political movement in which we were all divided... there was many who wanted to move away from technology and revert to a much simpler life, while others felt that technology was the only way we could improve our lives. Many of those people decided that they had to form their own colonies off-planet in order to have the life they wanted. I thought that humans might had been the remnants of the ancient Kryptonians who were Luddites. This would certainly explain why the humans were not as technologically advanced as we were, and why we shared some of the same DNA. Those ancient Luddite Kryptonians evolved into humans, while the remaining Kryptonians back home became much more stronger and intelligent thanks to genetic engineering and other various technology. The meta-humans not affected by the Kryptonite could also be a sign that the ancient Kryptonian gene hasn't entirely recessed.”
“Whoa, really?” Clark blinked, mind reeling from this information. He had always wondered why the people of Krypton and the people of Earth looked alike even though they were obviously different in some ways. And now to hear this from his father... even if it was only an unconfirmed hypothesis, it made perfect sense. In some ways, he hoped this was true... because that would mean that he wasn't really that much of an alien after all. It would mean that he was still part of the human race in some way, even if he did come from a different planet. And thus, not quite so alone after all.
He grinned. He HAD to tell Lois all about this! It was just too amazing to not be true at all. And Martha wouldn't need to worry anymore about him not being able to have children.
Jor-El's next words, however, stopped him in his tracks and doused his high spirits.
“Lois-Lane says she does not feel ready to bear your children and have left you, correct? So why do you not take on the childbearing duty yourself?”
“Uh, excuse me? Did you just say what I thought you did?” Clark blinked, as he stared up at his holographic father's face disbelievingly. “You're saying I can get pregnant??”
“That is correct.” Jor-El said rather factually. He then sounded a tad disproving. “The schools you went to did not educate you on this matter? I would not have thought that the sexual education in human schools would be so lacking.”
Clark fought the urge to slap his forehead or roll his eyes as he replied, “That's because human males can't have children that way. Aside from cloning, the only way they can have children is to impregnate a female. They do lack the necessary parts needed for a womb, after all... being a MALE. So when they teach sex education in schools, it's usually all about men getting women pregnant.”
Jor-El was quiet as he processed this new information. Then he asked, sounding highly puzzled: “So if two males or two females were to join as one in a matrimonial union, what would they do if they were required to produce offspring? After all, one of the sole purposes of taking on a mate is to produce children.”
“they usually have surrogate fathers and mothers for that. But that's going off topic! You said I can get pregnant? But how can that be.... I'm a male. Wouldn't I lack the.... err, necessary parts?” Clark replied, now highly annoyed as well as slightly freaked out.
After all, last time he looked he was just like every other human male in that he had complete male reproductive parts. There was no extra holes or anything else that would suggest that he was something akin to a hermaphrodite. Or like a Seahorse, for that matter.
So he was trying to picture how he could give birth... and needless to say the results in his mind wasn't that pretty, and filled him with a horrible dread.
***
With that, Jor-El was forced to educate Clark in a long Kryptonian sex education class. Complete with horrifying videos of live-births that they used to show in sex education classes back on Krypton in an attempt to mentally scar young Kryptonian children from even thinking of having sex recklessly. Which apparently worked very well... even on Kryptonian adults like Kal-El aka Clark.
This scene is not described in detail here, because the class took Two hours (thanks to Clark constantly interrupting and asking all kinds of questions). It were full of technical jumbo-mumbo that would had taken up at least 10 pages thanks to Jor-El's way of talking like an artificial intelligence that didn't even know what layman's terms were.
All you need to know in a nut-shell: There IS an extra hole for childbirth, but it's usually sealed up and usually looks like a very tiny scar line just under the bellybutton that only becomes noticeable if one is pregnant. But it opens up the moment he's ready to give birth. It almost looks like a kangaroo pouch when it opens up, but the baby cannot stay in there and it closes back up once he has given birth.
However, most Kryptonian males do not gestate... only a few rare cases were actually able to produce their own eggs, but that was due to being born inter-sex.
Therefore they usually have to have sex with a female first in order to naturally take the eggs from her before having sex with a male in order to get pregnant. Alternatively, they can also just artificially insert the eggs into the Male's body and then artificially impregnate him with the sperm. This artificial method is almost done in a similar fashion as how the female seahorse impregnates the male seahorse.
They purposely made the Kryptonians this way in the time period when everyone back on Krypton was on that Genetic Engineering kick. Mainly because there was such a low population at the time thanks to there not being enough women and more boys being born. The scientists at the time was worried that because there was so many boys and not enough girls, that their race would die out if there wasn't enough women to carry the babies. And then one of them had the idea that they could make the males have the ability of childbirth as seeing they had this technology to do so. Everyone else agreed.
****
“I see. So I would have to have sex with Lois first, and then find some guy to... donate his sperm to me?” Clark wondered, still feeling slightly shell-shocked from watching the highly graphic live-birth videos.
“According to my scans, your body already holds an accumulation of Lois's eggs from the occasions that you two had intercourse. So all you need is a sperm donation from a male. May I produce a list of all biologically compatible males that you've been familiar with in the past year for you?”
“Uh, sure...” Clark just shook his head. He couldn't possibly be considering this, could he?
It was just so weird! And how would he collect sperm? It wasn't like he could just go and ask his male friends.
He could just see it now. “Hey there. We've been buddies for a while now right? So I'd like it if you could do me a favor and let me collect your sperm.”
Oh yeah, he would just love to see their reactions to that. Especially his Justice League friends.
Speaking of which.... how could he go out and be Superman if he was pregnant?? Wouldn't it harm the baby in some way if he went out saving the world on a regular basis?
In a way, he could almost understand Lois right now when she said she didn't want the pregnancy getting in the way of her career.
The idea of him being the pregnant one instead was just so sudden! and as a male it just freaked him out completely. The idea of adoption was suddenly becoming more attractive by the minute.
//end of flashback//
Kon-El had a similar freaked out expression on his face when Jor-El was finished telling what Clark and the AI had talked about. Jor-El just HAD to complete the conversation by showing the terrifying sex education-slash-live childbirth video AGAIN.
“Oh my god!!” Kon-El screamed, way too freaked out now. “This means I can get pregnant too?!”
Clark sighed. “Now you know why I needed some time to myself to get used to this little fact. It's not enough that I had to be an alien, I also get to have this embarrassing and emasculating ability that pretty much makes me even a bigger freak.”
Kon-El shook his head, his face taking on a frightened expression. “This is way more than just embarrassing, Clark. That's terrifying!! Haven't you even seen how bloody and graphic that male live-birth recording was?! My god, I NEVER want to give birth for as long as I live!”
Clark smiled. “Well, as long as you practice safe sex with your girlfriend and haven't had sex with a boy unprotected, you have no chances of being pregnant.”
Kon-El looked nervous. “um... let's say I had unprotected sex with a boy before I hooked up with my girlfriend Wonder Girl, I'm safe from pregnancy then?”
Clark was shocked. “Kon-El!! Don't tell me you've been having unprotected sex with both this boy and your girlfriend! Who was the boy, anyway?”
Kon-El looked indignant. “I've used protection with her... I'm not an idiot you know. And as for the boy... well, I just fooled around with Robin once before I hooked up with Wonder Girl. It was just something that happened between friends and it never happened again.”
Clark crossed his arms as he looked at Kon, looking somewhat disappointed. He made a mental note to tell Bruce about this, so that Bruce could go and have a talk with Tim Drake about safe sex. Clark almost chuckled, at the mental image of Batman sternly talking to a mortified Robin about using condoms.
He shook his head, and then told Kon-El. “Well, you apparently have to use condoms now if you don't want to.... um, collect your girlfriend's eggs every time you have sex. I made the mistake of assuming that since Lois were on her pills and that we were married anyway, that nothing unwanted could ever happen. And now I just found out that I have every egg of hers from all the times that we ever had sex. That's a lot of eggs, you know. I'm not sure that Lois would be happy with the fact that if I ever got impregnated by some random male, that the children would be related to her too. ”
Kon-El nodded, calming down now. “Yeah, I can understand how she would feel about that. Man, this is just way too weird! It's not enough that I had to be a clone that was created out of your DNA and Lex Luthor's, I find out that I could apparently carry around a baby inside me if I wanted to. It's just too much.”
“Want to get out of here and do something together?” Clark asked, knowing Kon-El all too well.
“Hell yes.” Kon-El said, relived to have something to take his mind off this.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They didn't go out to eat after all like Clark thought they would, due to emergencies in metropolis.
They ended up foiling a few minor crimes around Metropolis together along with some car accident that involved a bus full of passengers which they had to transport to the hospital. All of those passengers were almost too much for both Superboy and Superman, as seeing the bus itself was a goner so they couldn't just carry the bus with everyone in it to the hospital. But thankfully Supergirl had arrived on the scene too. So between all three of them they were able to transport everyone to the hospital in time.
After that they went back to the farm. So now Clark and Conner Aka Kon-El were now sitting at the dinner table along with Martha and Kara eating dinner.
“So, what were you doing up there in the Fortress that was so important you couldn't come home right away?” Martha asked, straight to the point.
She frowned at the anxious looks that Conner and Clark both shared with each other.
“you're not in trouble, are you? Did Jor-El revert back to his old tricks again?” Martha wondered, fearing the worst.
Clark decided that he might as well as just suck it up and tell her.
Martha looked shell-shocked and happy at the same time, if that was even possible.
Kara chortled. “Seriously? That's all you were freaking out over? Oh man.”
Conner than turned to stare at her. “you knew?? And you didn't tell us at all?”
Kara sobered up at that. “I thought you two already knew... otherwise I would had sat down and explained it all to you two. I'm very sure I would have explained it in a way that was easier to accept. Did the AI show you that horrible childbirth video?”
The two Kent boys just nodded glumly at this, trying hard not to recall the graphic images.
Kara shuddered. “Oh man. I HATED that video... it was a compulsory part of our sex education class back on Krypton... everyone had to watch it, even the girls. I wound up being afraid of getting pregnant or getting one of my boyfriends pregnant for two years straight afterward.”
Connor shook his head. “I'm NEVER getting pregnant, period. There's just no way I'm going to do that.”
Clark sighed. “Well... I kind of want to do it, even though that video made me afraid of being pregnant. It's the other reason why I was up there by myself for weeks... I wanted time to think about it.”
Both Connor and Kara looked shocked at this.
“Wait.... I thought you were a male, Clark? How can you get pregnant in the first place? I mean, I know you're an alien dear but I just can't wrap my mind around it....” Martha asked, looking confused.
Kara got up at this. “Why don't we go into the kitchen, Martha? I'll explain it to you.”
Martha nodded. “Good idea. I can make us some more lemonade.”
As the women left the dining room, Connor turned around to face Clark.
“Have you gone insane or what??” Connor demanded to know, disbelief written over his face.
Clark sighed. “I know it does sound insane, but I can't help it. It's like my biological clock's ticking and all of a sudden I want kids so much. I love being your father and all, but I'd like to be the dad of more children.”
Connor shook his head. “Please tell me you're not going to be like the Dugars where they pop out a baby every year and end up having way too much children than what's humanely possible!”
Clark gave him a stern look. “You know, you shouldn't judge people like that. They look happy with their life, after all. Why should anybody condemn them for that?
But no, I don't plan to have that many kids. I was thinking maybe two more kids. Wouldn't you like to be a big brother, and teach your little brother or sister how to fly and such?”
Connor just gaped at this, unable to think of anything to say.
“So you see, Clark is still considered a male because he does not produce the eggs, just the sperm. It's just a simple fact on Krypton that carrying a kid doesn't make you effeminate or a woman. All it does is make you a biological parent.” Kara was saying as she helped Martha carry the tray of glasses while Martha carried the pitcher of lemonade back into the dining room.
Martha looked less shocked and confused now, and she had that usual resigned expression that she wore in the past whenever she was helping Clark deal with something weird again.
They sat back at the table together, and Martha then asked: “So are you going to tell Lois about this? From what Kara tells me, you're basically carrying her eggs and any kid you choose to get pregnant with would end up having a part of her DNA.”
Clark nodded. “Of course, Ma. I wouldn't dream of not telling her.... I do believe that everyone deserves to know that they might be a parent to a child. I just hope she'll be okay with me using her eggs if I decide to get pregnant after all.”
Martha frowned. “And if she says that you can't use her eggs? What are you going to do then?”
Clark's shoulders sagged. “I don't know. After all, we're newly divorced.... I'm not sure that Lois would be happy with me having children that's biologically linked to her so soon after our divorce. To be perfectly honest... a part of me wants to say the hell with her and do whatever I want.”
Silence then reigned over the dining table, with them wondering about what the outcome would be if Clark decided that he would have a child.
Clark figured that he would have to ask Lois very soon... since how the urge to get pregnant was steadily getting stronger by the minute.
Author notes:
Hmm.... I hope that wasn't too long-winded for a starter chapter? Ah well.... I tried to inject some humor into here... dunno if it worked.
I thought it'd be funny if children on krypton had to have a nightmare-inducing sex education tape for their sex eduction classes like they had to do in my state. :P
constructive criticism is appericated.
The only time that they actually sat down together and talked with each other was at the daily planet. And even then it was usually more about work than personal matters. At that point, they might as well had been just girlfriend and boyfriend who casually slept with each other once in a while.
Clark remembered a past time when Lois and Clark actually had time for each other, long before they had been married. Clark liked Lois's spunk and how she tackled life itself with such a fearless spirit. He also found her hot.
Lois also found Clark to be attractive as hell, and liked his Farm boy charm. She even found his nerdy side somewhat endearing even if she did like to make fun of him for it. And she was even more in love with his Superman persona.
The two of them thought that alone enough was enough to make a marriage work. Apparently there was so much more to making a successful marriage, because the romance and the attraction just kind of fizzled out after a long while. Granted, it took years for that to happen but still. They had even gone to a marriage counselor about it, it had gotten so bad.
It was at this point that Clark suddenly started to feel his biological clock ticking, where he wanted children rather badly. In Clark-like fashion, he got kind of obsessed with the idea of having children, even going far to suggest to Lois that if she refused to get pregnant as that would hurt her career, they could adopt kids instead. He even latched on to the idea that kids might even fix whatever problem they were having between the two of them.
Lois had gotten annoyed with this, and pretty much pointed out that Clark already had Kon-El as a son. And he could go off and play papa with him. She also had delivered the cold blow of reality that getting pregnant to fix a marriage was ALWAYS a bad idea... and if anything the burden of kids would only make the stress of a failed marriage worse.
Kon-El was basically the teenage clone of Superman-- Or so Clark had thought. Later on Clark had discovered that he was actually more than just a clone-- that Kon actually also had Lex Luthor's DNA. So in some weird way, Kon-El was actually Clark and Lex's son via a cloning process. There was times when Clark wondered what Lex Luthor had been thinking when he blended together his and Superman's DNA together to make Kon-El.
Not that he was complaining—He had actually come to love Kon-El as his true son and even had him living with Ma Kent as Connor Kent so that Kon-El could have a normal life outside of his superhero gig. He had even enrolled “Connor” into the same high school in Smallville he had gone to as a kid... so that he could learn how to socialize with normal humans. In fact Clark often commented that creating Kon-El had been the only right thing Lex had done recently so far.
But even so... it still weren't the same somehow. For one thing, Kon-El was a teenager and practically grown up anyway. He wanted the experience of rearing a baby into adulthood, dammit.
-------------------------------------------------------------
“Hey, Clark.” A voice said.
Speaking of the devil, he was here now.
Clark looked up from his seat to see Kon-El walking towards him.
“What are you doing here in the fortress? Still moping over your divorce?” Kon-El asked.
Clark sighed. “Well, I can't exactly go live in the apartment while Lois is still there, can I?”
Kon-El frowned. “True. But I thought Lois and you were still friends with each other and that you two both agreed that it wasn't working out for the two of you. So I'm sure Lois wouldn't have minded at all if you stayed there while you were searching for a new place to live.”
Clark smiled. “You'll understand when you have a girlfriend that you broke up with. Lois and I are still good friends and I trust her enough with all my secrets. However.... despite the fact that we're newly divorced there's still the chance that we could still end up having.... well, you know.”
He blushed slightly, not being able to say the word sex in front of his clone son.
“Oh.” Kon-El knew what he meant anyway, but he still frowned. “What's so bad about getting laid by your ex if you two still like each other well enough? In fact if you two still could find each other attractive enough to have sex why are you two separating anyway?”
Clark shook his head. “Ever heard of dependency actually being a bad thing? I don't want Lois to become a friend with benefits, I just want her to be a true friend to me. I don't want to come running to her every time I feel even slightly horny. It would also impede any chances of me finding somebody else down the road. Plus, what happens if she ended up finding somebody else? Then the whole thing would just get awkward fast.”
Kon-El nodded in understanding, now that everything was cleared up for him. “I see what you mean about that now. I have to say, I'm glad I'm not you... your relationships tend to be way too complicated sometimes.”
“Heh. You think my relationships are complicated right now, you should have seen me when I was your age. I had ten times more teenage angst than you ever did, and I kept on coming back to my ex-girlfriend Lana Lang in Smallville. In fact, we got back together and broke up more times than I can count... and every breakup we had always become worst than the last one. The last breakup I had with her was a real dozy... It was almost more painful than Kryptonite itself. That was when I decided I finally had enough of Lana and all of her drama.” Clark told Kon all this, with a self-decperating smile.
Kon-El raised his eyebrows, unable to picture his father as a teenager and actually dating somebody.... besides Lois, that is. “Wow.”
Clark nodded at his son's expression. “Yeah. That's basically the other reason why I refuse to live with Lois right now while I look for another place. I don't want her to turn into another Lana Lang. But enough of this topic... why are you here?”
Kon-El grinned. “Well, Ma Kent got all worried about you staying up here in the arctic fortress for so long, and sent me to ask you if you would come stay at the Farmhouse with us while you look for that new place. In fact, she wondered why you choose to stay up here instead of staying with us.”
It was at this point Clark started to look sheepish. “Uh... Well, I was going to stay with mom and you originally but then I discovered a biological fact about the Kryptonian race that kind of freaked me out. So I was staying up here so I could have some time to get used to it.”
“What biological fact??” Kon-El couldn't help but look concerned.
Clark fidgeted. “Well, it's kind of embarrassing, and I don't want to tell anybody yet.”
Kon-El sighed. “Look, I'm a Kryptonian too you know. If it's affecting you then it might affect me too eventually. So you have to tell me those things beforehand so I don't freak out! Or put myself in an embarrassing situation.”
This did make sense to Clark. So Clark chuckled nervously as he told Kon: “Let's just say that our people have a lot in common with Mister Seahorse.”
“What?” Kon-El just looked confused, not being familiar with that particular aquatic creature.
“Well, I was up here consulting with Jor-El about why I was feeling such a strong urge to have kids.” Clark answered, “You do know about my latest obsession with having kids, right?”
Kon-El just nodded, looking slightly uneasy. To be honest, he didn't know what to feel about his father wanting more kids. He almost had this irrational fear that Clark didn't really see him as a son, just as a clone and that once Clark had kids the old-fashioned way he was going to ignore Kon-El completely.
Hell, it had been a long time before Clark had finally gotten around to treating him like a son instead of just a clone that he didn't trust.
“Well.... I don't know how to tell you this, so I'll have Jor-El tell you this. Jor-El!” Clark yelled for the AI's attention.
“Yes, Kal-El. You wish me to tell Kon-El what I told you?” The booming voice of the AI said, as the holographic face of his biological father appeared.
Clark nodded. “Yes.”
//flashback//
He flew all the way to the Fortress of Solitude to have a little chat with his holographic father. He repeated everything he had spoken with both Lois and his mother about, word for word. He then asked: “So what do you think, Jor-El? I would be able to have children normally without any problems? I also would love to hear your viewpoint on whenever I should hold off on having children or not.”
“Kal-El, I am pleased that you have finally decided to start repopulating the Kryptonian race with your offspring. And you should not worry whenever you are biologically compatible or not. For you see, one of the reasons why Lara-El and I decided to send you to Earth and not any other planets was because of the fact that Humans and Kryptonians are very similar biologically.” Jor-El paused, and then decided to educate his son about the theory he had been studying in the past before he had died.
“In fact, when I was still alive I was researching Earth as a potential refugee for our people, I noticed this. I hypothesized that Earth was originally one of Krypton's lost colonies when we first become a space-faring race. Back then, we had not yet discovered genetic engineering in order to remove all the genetic defects we had. So we were like the humans in many ways; we were so fragile that we could easily die from anything. We were also in the middle of a political movement in which we were all divided... there was many who wanted to move away from technology and revert to a much simpler life, while others felt that technology was the only way we could improve our lives. Many of those people decided that they had to form their own colonies off-planet in order to have the life they wanted. I thought that humans might had been the remnants of the ancient Kryptonians who were Luddites. This would certainly explain why the humans were not as technologically advanced as we were, and why we shared some of the same DNA. Those ancient Luddite Kryptonians evolved into humans, while the remaining Kryptonians back home became much more stronger and intelligent thanks to genetic engineering and other various technology. The meta-humans not affected by the Kryptonite could also be a sign that the ancient Kryptonian gene hasn't entirely recessed.”
“Whoa, really?” Clark blinked, mind reeling from this information. He had always wondered why the people of Krypton and the people of Earth looked alike even though they were obviously different in some ways. And now to hear this from his father... even if it was only an unconfirmed hypothesis, it made perfect sense. In some ways, he hoped this was true... because that would mean that he wasn't really that much of an alien after all. It would mean that he was still part of the human race in some way, even if he did come from a different planet. And thus, not quite so alone after all.
He grinned. He HAD to tell Lois all about this! It was just too amazing to not be true at all. And Martha wouldn't need to worry anymore about him not being able to have children.
Jor-El's next words, however, stopped him in his tracks and doused his high spirits.
“Lois-Lane says she does not feel ready to bear your children and have left you, correct? So why do you not take on the childbearing duty yourself?”
“Uh, excuse me? Did you just say what I thought you did?” Clark blinked, as he stared up at his holographic father's face disbelievingly. “You're saying I can get pregnant??”
“That is correct.” Jor-El said rather factually. He then sounded a tad disproving. “The schools you went to did not educate you on this matter? I would not have thought that the sexual education in human schools would be so lacking.”
Clark fought the urge to slap his forehead or roll his eyes as he replied, “That's because human males can't have children that way. Aside from cloning, the only way they can have children is to impregnate a female. They do lack the necessary parts needed for a womb, after all... being a MALE. So when they teach sex education in schools, it's usually all about men getting women pregnant.”
Jor-El was quiet as he processed this new information. Then he asked, sounding highly puzzled: “So if two males or two females were to join as one in a matrimonial union, what would they do if they were required to produce offspring? After all, one of the sole purposes of taking on a mate is to produce children.”
“they usually have surrogate fathers and mothers for that. But that's going off topic! You said I can get pregnant? But how can that be.... I'm a male. Wouldn't I lack the.... err, necessary parts?” Clark replied, now highly annoyed as well as slightly freaked out.
After all, last time he looked he was just like every other human male in that he had complete male reproductive parts. There was no extra holes or anything else that would suggest that he was something akin to a hermaphrodite. Or like a Seahorse, for that matter.
So he was trying to picture how he could give birth... and needless to say the results in his mind wasn't that pretty, and filled him with a horrible dread.
***
With that, Jor-El was forced to educate Clark in a long Kryptonian sex education class. Complete with horrifying videos of live-births that they used to show in sex education classes back on Krypton in an attempt to mentally scar young Kryptonian children from even thinking of having sex recklessly. Which apparently worked very well... even on Kryptonian adults like Kal-El aka Clark.
This scene is not described in detail here, because the class took Two hours (thanks to Clark constantly interrupting and asking all kinds of questions). It were full of technical jumbo-mumbo that would had taken up at least 10 pages thanks to Jor-El's way of talking like an artificial intelligence that didn't even know what layman's terms were.
All you need to know in a nut-shell: There IS an extra hole for childbirth, but it's usually sealed up and usually looks like a very tiny scar line just under the bellybutton that only becomes noticeable if one is pregnant. But it opens up the moment he's ready to give birth. It almost looks like a kangaroo pouch when it opens up, but the baby cannot stay in there and it closes back up once he has given birth.
However, most Kryptonian males do not gestate... only a few rare cases were actually able to produce their own eggs, but that was due to being born inter-sex.
Therefore they usually have to have sex with a female first in order to naturally take the eggs from her before having sex with a male in order to get pregnant. Alternatively, they can also just artificially insert the eggs into the Male's body and then artificially impregnate him with the sperm. This artificial method is almost done in a similar fashion as how the female seahorse impregnates the male seahorse.
They purposely made the Kryptonians this way in the time period when everyone back on Krypton was on that Genetic Engineering kick. Mainly because there was such a low population at the time thanks to there not being enough women and more boys being born. The scientists at the time was worried that because there was so many boys and not enough girls, that their race would die out if there wasn't enough women to carry the babies. And then one of them had the idea that they could make the males have the ability of childbirth as seeing they had this technology to do so. Everyone else agreed.
****
“I see. So I would have to have sex with Lois first, and then find some guy to... donate his sperm to me?” Clark wondered, still feeling slightly shell-shocked from watching the highly graphic live-birth videos.
“According to my scans, your body already holds an accumulation of Lois's eggs from the occasions that you two had intercourse. So all you need is a sperm donation from a male. May I produce a list of all biologically compatible males that you've been familiar with in the past year for you?”
“Uh, sure...” Clark just shook his head. He couldn't possibly be considering this, could he?
It was just so weird! And how would he collect sperm? It wasn't like he could just go and ask his male friends.
He could just see it now. “Hey there. We've been buddies for a while now right? So I'd like it if you could do me a favor and let me collect your sperm.”
Oh yeah, he would just love to see their reactions to that. Especially his Justice League friends.
Speaking of which.... how could he go out and be Superman if he was pregnant?? Wouldn't it harm the baby in some way if he went out saving the world on a regular basis?
In a way, he could almost understand Lois right now when she said she didn't want the pregnancy getting in the way of her career.
The idea of him being the pregnant one instead was just so sudden! and as a male it just freaked him out completely. The idea of adoption was suddenly becoming more attractive by the minute.
//end of flashback//
Kon-El had a similar freaked out expression on his face when Jor-El was finished telling what Clark and the AI had talked about. Jor-El just HAD to complete the conversation by showing the terrifying sex education-slash-live childbirth video AGAIN.
“Oh my god!!” Kon-El screamed, way too freaked out now. “This means I can get pregnant too?!”
Clark sighed. “Now you know why I needed some time to myself to get used to this little fact. It's not enough that I had to be an alien, I also get to have this embarrassing and emasculating ability that pretty much makes me even a bigger freak.”
Kon-El shook his head, his face taking on a frightened expression. “This is way more than just embarrassing, Clark. That's terrifying!! Haven't you even seen how bloody and graphic that male live-birth recording was?! My god, I NEVER want to give birth for as long as I live!”
Clark smiled. “Well, as long as you practice safe sex with your girlfriend and haven't had sex with a boy unprotected, you have no chances of being pregnant.”
Kon-El looked nervous. “um... let's say I had unprotected sex with a boy before I hooked up with my girlfriend Wonder Girl, I'm safe from pregnancy then?”
Clark was shocked. “Kon-El!! Don't tell me you've been having unprotected sex with both this boy and your girlfriend! Who was the boy, anyway?”
Kon-El looked indignant. “I've used protection with her... I'm not an idiot you know. And as for the boy... well, I just fooled around with Robin once before I hooked up with Wonder Girl. It was just something that happened between friends and it never happened again.”
Clark crossed his arms as he looked at Kon, looking somewhat disappointed. He made a mental note to tell Bruce about this, so that Bruce could go and have a talk with Tim Drake about safe sex. Clark almost chuckled, at the mental image of Batman sternly talking to a mortified Robin about using condoms.
He shook his head, and then told Kon-El. “Well, you apparently have to use condoms now if you don't want to.... um, collect your girlfriend's eggs every time you have sex. I made the mistake of assuming that since Lois were on her pills and that we were married anyway, that nothing unwanted could ever happen. And now I just found out that I have every egg of hers from all the times that we ever had sex. That's a lot of eggs, you know. I'm not sure that Lois would be happy with the fact that if I ever got impregnated by some random male, that the children would be related to her too. ”
Kon-El nodded, calming down now. “Yeah, I can understand how she would feel about that. Man, this is just way too weird! It's not enough that I had to be a clone that was created out of your DNA and Lex Luthor's, I find out that I could apparently carry around a baby inside me if I wanted to. It's just too much.”
“Want to get out of here and do something together?” Clark asked, knowing Kon-El all too well.
“Hell yes.” Kon-El said, relived to have something to take his mind off this.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They didn't go out to eat after all like Clark thought they would, due to emergencies in metropolis.
They ended up foiling a few minor crimes around Metropolis together along with some car accident that involved a bus full of passengers which they had to transport to the hospital. All of those passengers were almost too much for both Superboy and Superman, as seeing the bus itself was a goner so they couldn't just carry the bus with everyone in it to the hospital. But thankfully Supergirl had arrived on the scene too. So between all three of them they were able to transport everyone to the hospital in time.
After that they went back to the farm. So now Clark and Conner Aka Kon-El were now sitting at the dinner table along with Martha and Kara eating dinner.
“So, what were you doing up there in the Fortress that was so important you couldn't come home right away?” Martha asked, straight to the point.
She frowned at the anxious looks that Conner and Clark both shared with each other.
“you're not in trouble, are you? Did Jor-El revert back to his old tricks again?” Martha wondered, fearing the worst.
Clark decided that he might as well as just suck it up and tell her.
Martha looked shell-shocked and happy at the same time, if that was even possible.
Kara chortled. “Seriously? That's all you were freaking out over? Oh man.”
Conner than turned to stare at her. “you knew?? And you didn't tell us at all?”
Kara sobered up at that. “I thought you two already knew... otherwise I would had sat down and explained it all to you two. I'm very sure I would have explained it in a way that was easier to accept. Did the AI show you that horrible childbirth video?”
The two Kent boys just nodded glumly at this, trying hard not to recall the graphic images.
Kara shuddered. “Oh man. I HATED that video... it was a compulsory part of our sex education class back on Krypton... everyone had to watch it, even the girls. I wound up being afraid of getting pregnant or getting one of my boyfriends pregnant for two years straight afterward.”
Connor shook his head. “I'm NEVER getting pregnant, period. There's just no way I'm going to do that.”
Clark sighed. “Well... I kind of want to do it, even though that video made me afraid of being pregnant. It's the other reason why I was up there by myself for weeks... I wanted time to think about it.”
Both Connor and Kara looked shocked at this.
“Wait.... I thought you were a male, Clark? How can you get pregnant in the first place? I mean, I know you're an alien dear but I just can't wrap my mind around it....” Martha asked, looking confused.
Kara got up at this. “Why don't we go into the kitchen, Martha? I'll explain it to you.”
Martha nodded. “Good idea. I can make us some more lemonade.”
As the women left the dining room, Connor turned around to face Clark.
“Have you gone insane or what??” Connor demanded to know, disbelief written over his face.
Clark sighed. “I know it does sound insane, but I can't help it. It's like my biological clock's ticking and all of a sudden I want kids so much. I love being your father and all, but I'd like to be the dad of more children.”
Connor shook his head. “Please tell me you're not going to be like the Dugars where they pop out a baby every year and end up having way too much children than what's humanely possible!”
Clark gave him a stern look. “You know, you shouldn't judge people like that. They look happy with their life, after all. Why should anybody condemn them for that?
But no, I don't plan to have that many kids. I was thinking maybe two more kids. Wouldn't you like to be a big brother, and teach your little brother or sister how to fly and such?”
Connor just gaped at this, unable to think of anything to say.
“So you see, Clark is still considered a male because he does not produce the eggs, just the sperm. It's just a simple fact on Krypton that carrying a kid doesn't make you effeminate or a woman. All it does is make you a biological parent.” Kara was saying as she helped Martha carry the tray of glasses while Martha carried the pitcher of lemonade back into the dining room.
Martha looked less shocked and confused now, and she had that usual resigned expression that she wore in the past whenever she was helping Clark deal with something weird again.
They sat back at the table together, and Martha then asked: “So are you going to tell Lois about this? From what Kara tells me, you're basically carrying her eggs and any kid you choose to get pregnant with would end up having a part of her DNA.”
Clark nodded. “Of course, Ma. I wouldn't dream of not telling her.... I do believe that everyone deserves to know that they might be a parent to a child. I just hope she'll be okay with me using her eggs if I decide to get pregnant after all.”
Martha frowned. “And if she says that you can't use her eggs? What are you going to do then?”
Clark's shoulders sagged. “I don't know. After all, we're newly divorced.... I'm not sure that Lois would be happy with me having children that's biologically linked to her so soon after our divorce. To be perfectly honest... a part of me wants to say the hell with her and do whatever I want.”
Silence then reigned over the dining table, with them wondering about what the outcome would be if Clark decided that he would have a child.
Clark figured that he would have to ask Lois very soon... since how the urge to get pregnant was steadily getting stronger by the minute.

Author notes:
Hmm.... I hope that wasn't too long-winded for a starter chapter? Ah well.... I tried to inject some humor into here... dunno if it worked.
I thought it'd be funny if children on krypton had to have a nightmare-inducing sex education tape for their sex eduction classes like they had to do in my state. :P
constructive criticism is appericated.
