Twist Of Fate

A/N: I wasn't going to do this until my other MMPR story was finished, but we all know how that kind of promise goes. :D You may recognize a thread of the plot from the other story I'm posting, but only as a shadow. :D I hope you like this one as much as you seem to have liked the other. :D And oh yeah, this is also posted at Evocativefics.net I'll let you know when the really icky things start happening. Mostly they'll be seen through rather graphically described flashback/memories. Although, if it gets too graphic, let me know and I'll tone it down . . . or as much as I can. :D

Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers

Twists of Fate

By Rose O’ Sharon

The hooded figure in the cape carefully walked through the desert and gazed up the impossibly high cliffside, at the shattered pile of concrete, metal beams, and twisted masses of wire and consoles. The figure sighed deeply, and shook the hooded head. Slowly, the entity continued the ascent until it stood directly in the middle of the wreckage.

Once there, the being pulled up a sleeve, and a metal manacle, covered with gemstones of various sizes and colors was revealed. The armlet tapered down his forearm to the back of the hand, ending in a half inch wide, solid, banded ring around the middle finger. Connected to that, were four small chains attached to four smaller banded rings worn around the thumb, pointer finger, ring finger, and pinky.

The figure flexed the wrist, and pressed a large blue stone in the bottom middle of the manacle. Crackles of energy flashed around the device and hand, and the being pointed at a large section of the concrete and metal beams. They rose into the air, and the figure slowly moved its arm to the left, and gently dropped the debris onto another pile.

For a long while, the disturbingly silent cleanup continued, until the figure stood in a cleared space directly in the center of the debris. There had been a solid foundation, though it was cracked, split, and charred, while a huge hole had been exposed; a hole which led deep into the earth, though it was clear that it was not a natural hole, and had once been part of a much larger, metal-lined complex.

The being nodded and tapped its metal soled boots together, then jumped into the hole. However, rather than just freefalling as one would expect, the soles of the boots hissed, and the figure slowly descended, until it touched a solid flooring, which was semi-covered in more debris. Several doors were blocked with the rubble, but the figure purposely strode up to what appeared to be a solid wall, and raised its other wrist.

A small metal circlet glowed a brilliant blue, and a wide beam all but leapt from the circlet and touched the wall. The beam narrowed until it was slightly larger than a pencil, and the figure drew a glowing blue rectangle on the wall. Slowly, ever so slowly, the rectangle solidified into a glowing blue portal, and the figure stepped through the light.

It was dark on the other side of the wall, and the only light came from the glowing circlet.

“Power on,” the figure said, its voice automatically marking it as male, and raised the arm with the large manacle. He waved it around the room, and one by one, computer consoles blinked, flashed, and lights came up, though they were dim.

the figure looked around in satisfaction, shrugged back the cape, and took off a shabby, faded, well-used, blue backpack. It opened the pack, and pulled out what appeared to be a small, silver chain, with a two and a half inch test tube attached, filled with a glowing, swirling, mass of golden energy. He uncapped the vial, and a small amount of energy left the tube, and dissipated into the air.

One by one, consoles around the room lit up to full power, as did the lights, and he nodded, recapped the still three-quarters filled tube, and placed the necklace on one of the consoles.

“Ay-yi-yi!” Exclaimed a disembodied, somewhat screechy voice a moment later. “The Alternate Power Chamber is now energized,” and the figure nodded. “And the Command Center repairs will commence on your orders. Ay-yi-yi! This is so exciting!”

“Consider the order given, alpha. Commence repairs,” the being said, and deep inside the Earth, where a twisted mass of wreckage and what looked like broken Zords of different kinds stood piled together, lights came up, and several robotic arms left the walls. Immediately, they straightened, sorted, and separated the bits and parts into piles of similar pieces.

The figure looked over at the necklace, and nodded.

“All we can do now is wait and see if I was right,” the figure sat down in the middle of the floor in a Lotus position, and breathed deeply. “Oh, and by the way,” he said as he gazed at the test tube. “Welcome home, Zordon.”
