Chance Encounters
“Are we there yet?”
These words echoed as Alex and Annie White walked up a beaten wooded path. They were both carrying backpacks with sleeping bags attached to them.
“No” Alex answered.
Annie had done nothing but moan since they started this little nature hike. They may have been sisters but they were nothing alike. Annie was the more out-going, party hard girl and Alex was the quiet, thinks things over girl. Annie had brown hair and hazel eyes while Alex had brown hair and brown eyes. The differences where accountable to the fact that they had different mothers.
“We’ve been walking for hours” Annie said “Are you sure you know where you’re going?”
“For the last time, Yes” Alex said almost furious pointing at the map she was holding “The man at the information desk said that the best place to camp is just past dead man’s point in the valley of no return”
“Why do all the places on the map sound like they came out of a horror movie?” Annie asked almost tripping over a branch but quickly composed herself. “I mean dead man’s point and the valley of no return, why not say a patch of trees past yet another patch of trees”
“It’s to draw tourists in,” Alex said and she stopped dead.
“Whoa” Annie said as she walked into her. “Why’d you stop?”
“I thought I heard something,” Alex answered quietly as she looked around.
“Where?” Annie said whispered.
Before she could answer two men came out from the bushes in front of them causing them all to scream. After a moment to compose themselves one of men spoke.
“Are you alright?” He said with a caring tone to his voice.
“You mean besides being almost scared to death” Annie answered which resulted in an elbow to the stomach from her sister. “Ow”
“We’re fine” Alex said looking at the two men.
One was wearing a leather jacket and was quite tall with light brown hair and green eyes while the one that spoke was very tall with chin length dark brown hair and hazel eyes. They were both very handsome and by the tired look to them, it seemed they had been out here for hours.
“You two lost or something?” Annie piped up also noticing how tired they looked.
“Yeah” The other guy said. The taller one seemed to scold him for this, mouthing something about manners.
“You can have a look at our map if you want” Alex said as she held it out in front of her.
The taller one took the map from her, his fingers touched hers slightly when he did and she could feel her heart beat faster. ‘Get a hold of yourself, girl’ she thought as he looked at it.
“See I told you we weren’t lost” He said as he looked at the other one.
“Where are you two headed?” Annie asked while adjusting the strap of her backpack.
“The valley of no return” The taller one answered.
“Snap” Annie said with a slight giggle.
“Well maybe we could accompany you two beautiful ladies?” The shorter one said while holding out his arm.
“Why sir we would be honoured” Annie said while taking his arm.
“Dear god, there’s two of them” Alex said with a smile that the other one shared.
“I’m Sam and that’s Dean” Sam said with a smile.
“Alex and lady muck over there is Annie” Alex said as the walked off towards the campground.
