You went insane for a day..
Danny stood in the kitchen, cooking the scrambled eggs he had in the frying pan. With his free hand he grabbed a small plate, placing the piece of cooked bacon on it, as well as the toast that just finished.
“Alphonse!” he shouted. “You need to get out here and eat so we can leave.”
A four year old came rushing out of his room, blanket in hand. He was wearing blue jeans and a red tee shirt with matching red Converses. Though his face looked more like Don, he had Dannys hair. He climbed into his chair and looked over to Danny who was on his way with a plate and a glass of milk.
Don rushed out of his room and Danny saw where Alphonse got it from. Danny chuckled as he kissed Don good morning. Don smiled at him, adjusting his tie as he kissed back. Danny pulled back, heading to the bathroom to take a shower, and finish getting ready for work.
Don ruffled Alphonse’s hair as he walked back, receiving a giggle from the boy as well as a ‘dad.’ Don grabbed his plate and sat across from his son, watching him slowly eat his food. Don picked up the paper, reading the front page as he ate.
“Daddy?”
“Hmm?” Don said without looking up from the paper.
“Why do I have two daddies instead of a daddy and a mommy?”
Don put the paper down, looking at his son, who stared back at him. Don had no idea how to answer that in a way he could understand. He wished Danny would hurry up and get out here, but he knew his son wouldn’t let him leave without answering,
“You have two because we have a different relationship then other families.”
“Do I have a mommy?” he asked, pushing his eggs around his plate with his fork.
“Yes, you do, Al.” he smiled before picking up the paper again.
Don walked out of their room, dressed for work, heading back into the kitchen for more coffee. “Eat your eggs Al, don’t play with them.”
In the car, on the way to Lindsays, Don looked at Danny with a look that said ‘he asked another question.’ Danny nodded before looking behind him to their son. At Lindsays, Danny got Alphonses backpack and lunchbox while Don got him out of his chair.
The nanny opened the door when they rang the bell, and they quickly stepped inside. Lucy came running down the stairs in a pink sun dress, her intensions were to tackle her father, be he was too quick. He swooped her up and hugged her tightly.
“Daddy!” she squealed, clinging to him. “Hi, uncle Don.”
“Hi, sweetheart.” Don smiled before heading into the kitchen. Lindsay came down the stairs next, ready for work, smiling at Danny and Lucy. She spotted Alphonse and hugged him good morning, before also heading into the kitchen.
The parents said goodbye to their kids and headed out to Dons car. Since they worked together, they carpooled, unless Don had to go in early. Danny would then drive to Lindsays and drop of Al, before driving her to work.
“So, what did he ask this morning?” Danny asked as they pulled away.
“He asked why he had two dads while other kinds have one mom and one dad.”
Lindsay laughed from the back seat. “I remember when Lucy asked why Danny didn’t live with us and was always with uncle Don.”
“What did you tell her?” Danny asked, turning around to look at her.
“I just explained that me and you don’t have the relationship like other parents do, but that you and uncle Don do.”
Danny groaned, sitting forwards again. “What did you tell him?”
“I said that me and you have a different relationship then other parents.”
“Great minds think alike.” Lindsay smirked looked at Don through the rear view mirror.
Don chuckled and the rest of the way there was silent. Danny was thinking, Lindsay was reading, and Don was trying not to freak out at the drivers in front of him. When they finally reached work, they got out, grabbing their stuff. Lindsay walked in alone, needing to talk to Stella as soon as possible. Don and Danny walked together, talking about what they were going to do for dinner.
When they had to part, Don leaned down and kissed Danny softly, whispering that he loved him, before heading to his desk. Danny smiled and headed to the locker room, putting his jacket into his locker before heading to work.
He headed to the lab, receiving the test results he needed and he headed towards Macs office, telling him what he found out. Mac told him to grab Don and go get the suspect and bring him back for questioning.
He made his way towards Don, looking at two officers as they passed. Danny knew they wouldn’t say anything, but he saw on their faces that they wanted to. He veered to the right as he got closer to them, knowing that if they had the chance, they would bump shoulder to get a rise out of the CSI.
Danny shook his head when they passed, wondering how long it was going to take for them to just accept it. He was already suspended once for fighting with a cop for calling him a fag, right now he was in no mood.
He found Don talking to a group of cop. He was laughing with them and it was hard to go over there and pull him away.
“We got to go.” He said nonchalantly, not looking at the other guys. “We have a suspect to pick up.”
Don nodded, following after his man, smiling at the back of his head. Danny turned to look at him, then to the group of guys watching them. “Don’t let them bother you.” He whispered, walking next to him.
“Don, do they say shit to you?”
“Yeah, sometimes, but they are just messing around.”
“With you maybe, but the looks I get from them are meant to be threatening.”
“Just ignore them, Danny. Don’t act out on it, just come get me.”
“I’m not weak; I don’t need to run to my big strong man to protect me from a bunch of stupid ass cops.”
“Calm down, Danny, don’t let them get to you.” Don said, placing his hand on Dannys shoulder. “I’m not calling you weak, I’m just saying don’t let them get you suspended again.”
Dannys frown continued as he nodded and headed out to Dons car. Don looked at him, wondering if he said something wrong, again. Lately all they did was fight over everything, no matter how small it was. He knew to let Danny be and soon he would come out of his funk and be as normal as he could get. He just didn’t expect it to get worse. They were supposed to be a happy family.
Work was stressful, it always will be and being fathers just wore them out sometimes. Don was fine with all of that, but now with Dannys mood swings, it was hard to do say anything without him freaking out. The guys at the department were not helping either. He knew they would gang up on Danny, trying to get him to take the first swing, so they didn't have to see him and Don together. But, Danny was smarter then that, but all that stress was going home with him.
“Alphonse!” he shouted. “You need to get out here and eat so we can leave.”
