Chapter One
Kathy walked through the precinct looking for him with purpose. As she turned the corner, he caught her eye immediately, just as he had the first time she saw him. She let a half smile creep onto her face as she remembered their first date. He’d been so nervous the entire night, gotten mustard all over her favorite shirt, spilled coke in her lap and tripped on his way up to her door step as he walked her home. But still, she fell madly in love with him. Now, twenty one years, four kids and a divorce later, here she was. He heard her gentle foot steps behind him and turned to meet her piercing blue eyes. She smiled knowing that he would smile back. His smile had always had the ability to make her surrender all that she had to him and he knew it. She blushed slightly.
“Hey Kathy…” he said spinning his chair completely around to face her.
“Hi” she replied. “I was on my way home from my sisters and wanted to ask if you could take Kathleen to get their her cut.” His brows furrowed in confusion.
“Kathleen is nineteen years old, why would she need me to go with her?” he asked
“She wants you to go with her.” His heart warmed and his face fell into a small smile before he nodded. “She's going to meet you here after her last class.”
“Okay” he replied.
“Alright…I should go. Ben is waiting for me.” She said referring to her boyfriend which made his heart break at the sound of another man’s name escaping her lips. He could only nod. It was no real secret that he was still madly in love with her. She nodded back slowly. “Okay, I’ll see you later then.” She said slowly. He nodded again, watching her as she walked out the same way she came in. He sighed to himself as his eyes wandered to the picture of Kathy and the kids that sat proudly on his desk, and his face molded into a soft smile.

Shane walked into her new hair salon. Shane for Wax had spread so significantly in Los Angeles, that she’d been offered the opportunity to open a store in New York City. She wasn't too keen on having to move there and leave her friends behind, but after all she'd been through she decided that a change of environment wasn't such a bad idea. Today was the grand opening and she already had thirty seven appointments before noon. She let out a breath as she looked around at her employees, anxious for her first client to arrive.

“Shane” she heard from behind her before she turned to face the voice. “Your 9:00 is here” she smiled and nodded as she tossed her backpack into the office and jogged towards the young woman in the lobby.
“Hi” she said in her trademark, sexy raspy voice “I’m Shane”
