Can you fix me?

A/N: Ok, this is going to be a one shot. This kind of came up as I was listening to music on cell. I like watching Heroes. I do not own Heroes. This is a work of fiction, this is going to be a O.C and story. Hope you enjoy...

Pain shot through Kevin's body as his eyes slowly opened. Blinking his eyes to make them focus, he looked around and saw broken glass and blood. He soon realized that he was upside down in a car. Panic filled his features as he looked towards the driver’s side. His best friend Alex was unconscious next to him at the wheel. Kevin tried to unbuckle himself from his seat. He tried to move his leg, and an immense pain shot through him. His right leg was broken. Kevin cried out because of the pain. He placed his both of his hands on his leg and held it there. The pain slowly started to fade and he was able to move his leg once more. After unbuckling himself from his seat he slowly crawled out of the car. He looked around the dark empty street and saw the other car, off to the side of the road, resting on its side. Kevin made his way around to the driver’s side of the car.

Kevin checked to see if Alex was breathing. He breathed a sigh of relief; Alex was still alive. His breathing was shallow, so Kevin worked quickly to unbuckle him and get him out of the car. He laid him on the cold pavement and started to check him over. Alex seemed to have a few fractured ribs, and one had punctured one of his vital organs.
"He's bleeding internally," Kevin whispered to himself as he placed both hands over his friend’s chest and focused on repairing his injuries. He could hear his blood rushing in his ears as he was busy healing him.
Alex started to cough violently and then started to breathe evenly. Kevin helped Alex's large frame sit up. He could hear sirens off in the distance.
"You okay?" Kevin asked.

~~2 months later~~

Kevin sat at a table in a small cafe waiting for Alex to show up. School had been let out early, and Alex wanted to hang out for a while. The sound of feet tapping the linoleum floor sounded as Kevin got impatient from waiting.
He was supposed to be here fifteen minutes ago, Kevin whispered to himself, stirring the soda sitting in front of him that he barely touched. Kevin threw money on the counter and got up and headed for the door.
I hate small towns, Kevin thought as he opened the door and headed for home, which was a forty minute walk. He took his skateboard off his backpack. Slowly coasting down the road, with music playing in his ears he didn't hear the horn from the approaching vehicle until he was five feet away. Kevin looked over his shoulder to flip the guy the bird since there wasn't much pavement for him to skate on.
The car was a grey 1998 Mazda, slowing to a stop. Alex's head poked out of the side of the window yelling, “Get in!”
Kevin got off his skateboard and walked to the passenger side and slid into the car.

"Dude, I want to ask you something, " Alex said as he turned back onto the road and started to drive.

"Ask away, " Kevin said flatly, not happy that his friend had taken his time to pick him up.
There was silence as he waited for Alex to ask the question.

"That night--what really happened two months ago?" Alex asked as he pulled the car over.

"I told you, I pulled you out of the car, and then the ambulance came and brought you to the hospital," Kevin lied, and he knew it was failing.

"Don't lie to me, I am your best friend. Tell me the truth." Alex raised his voice and Kevin flinched as if he had been whipped.

"You’re my only friend since I moved here," Kevin pointed out, trying to avoid the subject at hand.

"Stop avoiding the question! Tell me the truth. I saw the photos. There was a lot of blood. Most of it was mine, but I didn't have a scratch on me. The guy in the other car was dead!" Alex yelled as he gripped Kevin’s wrist. Kevin let out a small whimper in response.

Kevin let his head fall. He had known Alex would ask this question, and he had thought it would be enough to tell him lie after lie. Kevin felt guilty for leaving him in the dark about what he could do.
"If I didn‘t…f I didn't you would have died that night."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"You suffered a lot of injuries. You were barely breathing. A few of your ribs were fractured, one of them broke and stabbed you in one of your vital organs. So I did what I could do to save you," Kevin confessed to Alex.
He was bound to find out anyway, Kevin thought, as he looked out the window and noticed it was raining.

Looking over at Alex, he noticed he looked confused and was putting things together. Kevin couldn’t take it anymore; he didn't want to lose him over something like this. Kevin opened the door of the car and got out and started to walk in the rain. It was coming down pretty hard, but Kevin didn't care. He heard the car door slam closed behind him.

"What are you talking about? What did you do?!" Alex yelled through the rain.
Kevin knew this was the moment of truth. If he told him, Alex could either accept him or shun him for what he was... he was a freak.

"I- I healed you!"

"What?!"

"I healed all your injuries!"

"How is that possible?!"

"I am a healer..!"

There it was; it was out, he had confessed it to the only person in this stupid little town who treated him like he was a human being. The one person he was in love with. Standing in the rain, Kevin didn't know if he was crying or if it was just the rain. There he broke down; he leaned against the tree and allowed himself to slide down the ground. He couldn't lie to Alex anymore.

"Why didn't you help the guy in the other car?" He could hear Alex's voice through he rain.

"I didn't want to save him..."

"Why not! He didn't know anything to deserve death!"

"I only wanted to save you! No one forced him to drink and drive. That was the price he paid for his mistake!"

"So now you can play God? You decide who lives and who dies?"

"Just because I can heal people doesn't mean I have to heal them all. I get to choose whom I heal and whom I don’t heal. If I heal one person I have to heal three more and it goes on and on…it won't stop!" Kevin yelled through the rain.

"Then why only me!?"

Kevin could not answer.

"Why!?" Alex demanded.

"Cause I am in love with you!"
There.
Now it was all out.
It’s all over, our friendship…my only friend and first love, Kevin thought as he turned his head so he wouldn’t have to look at Alex. He felt ashamed at himself for having these feelings.

"Kevin! Kevin, look at me!" Alex said, as gently as possible. Kevin closed his eyes, hoping that when he opened them, this would all be a bad dream. When he opened them he saw a pair of light hazel eyes staring back at him.

"You are still my friend and nothing is going to change that," Alex said as he wrapped his arms around Kevin's small frame.

~~ ~~

They went back to Alex's place since his parents weren't home yet. Kevin sat there in warm clothes that hung loose on his body. Alex had insisted he change into some of his own clothes until Alex’s clothes were dry.
Kevin got up and grabbed his iPod from his backpack. Luckily he hadn’t forgotten to grab it when he got out of the car earlier. He plugged his iPod to Alex's stereo and put on his favorite song on, and turned it down so it wasn’t too loud. It played low in the background. The sound of a guitar and drums filled the room along with the soothing voice.

~~Its okay I’ll give you a ride
I’ll take you to the
moon if you don’t wanna go back home
Don’t worry
You’re safe inside my arms
Just don’t let go until
I say that it’s okay to~~

"How can you like this song?" Alex asked behind Kevin, holding two mugs in his hands. Kevin could smell chocolate coming from the mugs. Alex offered him one. Kevin took it and had a sip of the hot liquid.
"I just do, so…you are okay with the whole me in love with you thing?" Kevin asked. Silence filled the room except for the song playing low.

~~Just don’t forget to breathe I know the stars
look beautiful from up here
But there’s so much more
I can teach you how to fly
We’ll fly around the world that I just drew for you now
With me inside~~

"Yeah, I guess I am," Alex said as he sat next to Kevin. "I guess in some way I knew. It doesn't bother me, because I think I love you too," Alex said as he stared into Kevin’s dark blue eyes. A shock washed over Kevin's face and Alex took this moment to gently kiss Kevin's lips. Kevin kissed back gently.

~Or maybe we just can go to your house
We’ll sit around and talk about our lives
And then I will tell you
What I love about your eyes
And tell you all those things to make you smile
You mean everything to me now
I’ll hold you close near to my heart I fell in love with you~

Kevin could feel tears fall from his eyes; this was the second time he was crying in one day. Through the sobs Kevin spoke, "I am so…sorry. I a-am so sorry." He kept repeating it, and Alex wrapped his arms around him. Alex ran his hands through Kevin's long black hair.
"What’s wrong?" Alex finally asked as Kevin started to calm down.

"I am moving again. We are leaving tomorrow," Kevin answered.

~~Just don’t forget to breathe I know that I am
giving you my life right here.~~

"Where are you moving to? Will I get to see you again?"

"After tonight. I'll see you, but you won't see me…" was all Kevin could think of saying.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Alex asked confusedly, still holding Kevin in his arms. Kevin could hear Alex's heart beat against his chest. Somehow they were both laying on the bed in each other’s arms.

"It means this is the last moment I get to spend with you. A friend... a friend is going to come and erase your memories and everyone else’s too,“ Kevin's voice crackled. Kevin started to sob again, feeling Alex's lips press against his forehead as Kevin cried. Alex started to kiss Kevin's lips and spoke, in a confident voice, "I will never forget this moment."
Kevin slowly drifted off to sleep in Alex's arms soon after.

~~But there’s so much more
You teach me how to smile
And we’ll laugh about the stupid things that we’ve both done
You’re with me now~~

~~ ~~ ~~

Alex woke up to a familiar song, as it was set as his alarm.

~~I will tell you what I love about your eyes
And tell you all those things to make you smile
You mean everything to me now
I’ll hold you close near to my heart
I fell in love with you~~

Alex felt disappointment when he woke up and found himself alone. He looked around the room, confused. He felt like something was missing from his room. Like a piece of himself was gone.

"Alex! Time to wake up, I am taking the car today. You better not miss the bus," Alex's mother yelled from down the hall.

Alex jumped out of bed and passed his mirror that had a yellow post-it that it read, I'll see you, but won't see me...

A few minutes later, he was out the door walking down the street in the direction of the school. There was a moving truck next door and people were packing things in the truck. As he was walking along between the trunk and the fence Alex almost ran into some kid that had long black hair.
Alex's light hazel eyes met dark blue orbs.

"Watch where you are going, freak.”
