Protected Innocently

Title: Protected Innocently.

Fandom: Bones.
Notes: I don't know the name of the episode, but the hints will be obvious. Zack isn't fuck stain G's assistant, neither is Hodgins or Sweets. One of Bones' interns was. The explosion was set up by one of the other interns that wanted Zack gone, so that they could take his place. Jealousy sucks, but sometimes it's needed. I ain't doing a summary, except that which the site demands before you can post the story. Zack and Angela are my favorites, so they have a prominent place in the story. Zack is paired with an OFC who just happens to be Booth's baby sister Katie. Katie had been kidnapped when she was ten. Though Zack injured the lobbyist cause he tried to rape Katie, who was with Zack on a walk through a museum in the town. Fuck Stain G took advantage and killed the lobbyist himself. Zack WAS approached by Fuck Stain G, but turned him down when said fuck-stain tried to kill Katie. Zack's known Katie since before the series started, but never told Booth, cause Katie feared her brother's reaction. Will be a cross-over with NCIS, cause Katie transfers to Bones' lab along with Abbie, upon Gibbs request. Abbie and Gibbs are an item. Gibbs retired so that he could be with Abbie with no fear of rules and regulations about dating co-workers. The title of the story: Protected Innocently, sounded better than putting 'and' in there between the words.
As for Katie, Gibbs adopted her when she was recovered by NCIS from a seller to a child prostitution ring. Gibbs supports Katie being with Zack whole heartedly. Tony is dating McGee, always thought those two would be cute together, so they quit and move to DC with Gibbs and Abby and Katie, Ducky transfers to Bones' lab, so that the crew can be all together. Ziva transfers too. The family dynamic for Katie is this:

Adopted Father: Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
Hopefully Future Adopted Mother: Abby Scuito.
Adopted Grandfather: Donald 'Ducky' Mallard.
Adopted Brother: Tony DiNozzo.
Adopted Brother: Timothy McGee.
Adopted Sister: Ziva David.
Lover: Zack Addy.
Daughter: Serene Katherine Ziva Addy.

Guess that I forgot to mention Zack and Katie having a kid. Serene's middle name is after Kate, who died protecting Katie, who was in labor in the back of the van, instead of being killed by Ari. She was injured by him, lived to meet Ziva, the two women being trapped in the back of a surveillance van with Katie. Who ended up having Serene in said van. Serene is after a childhood friend of Katie's. A woman that helped Gibbs with the adopted. Her name was Selene, but Katie couldn't say it right due to having her tongue almost split in half, she had been still recovering when she first met the woman. Ziva was after Big Sis Z, of course, cause both she and Kate helped deliver Serene. I know I should write something that should lead up to the story, but I want to get it done before I forget things. Katie is 20 and has been with Zack since she was 16...with Gibbs' consent of course. Katie adores Zack's speech and actions, thinking of it as completely adorable. She often tells Tony that she thinks she's corrupted him, especially when Zack told her that he had started bugging Booth with sex questions. Yes, they have put the Kama Sutra book to good use, they have Serene don't they? Katie drives him to work, not allowing herself to be seen by Booth. The Infamous Naomi agreed to be a cover for Zack and Katie, only having gone to the Halloween party.
The beginning of this will be flashbacks, all happening while Zack is sleeping at the hospital, and the first of the flash backs will be how Zack met Katie. Hey, guess what I discovered? I can spell feasible without the spell check. Woohoo! Yea me! Zack and Katie's theme is Have You Ever by Brandy. The timeline is set for Dark Angel, which it will elude to and eventually blend into at a later time. Not in this chapter obviously, but I think you get what I mean...Well, on with the show! Okay, about part way into this, I decided to forgo the flashbacks for now. Oh and a little piece for Zack, I thought about something earlier...what if Zack was a think-tank transgen? Due to the fact that he's 26 and Katie's 20, that would make him an X3...I think. So just bear with me here, people. Almost complete disregard for the finale, which is a big fat fucking DUH!!! Oh, and Max and Sam and Krit are Seeley and Katie's half siblings. Their mother was an egg donor and a surrogate. She had her luck with Katie, having been chosen to be a surrogate to an egg she had donated...not that they told her that. Max, Sam, and Krit were made from three of the other eggs that Katie and Seeley's mom donated.

Angela moved a lock out of Zack's sleeping face, the young man shifting in his sleep and uttering the name Katie and the word Serene. Though, she guessed, with the way he said it, Serene was a person. Zack shivered and flinched in pain and she pushed the pain med button, watching a blissful expression wash over his face. These people, Katie and Serene must have meant something to him.

“Angela...” Booth said softly.
She looked up and smiled. Booth pulled a chair over, sitting down before taking a look at Zack, sighing.

“Gormogon approached Zack a few months ago...”
Angela looked at the young man that was like a little brother to her since he arrived.

“Zack didn't go through with it,” Booth said softly, “he had too much of a reason not to....”
Booth trailed off. Still reeling from the information overload himself. The same information overload that informed him that his baby sister was still alive, had been adopted by a now retired NCIS Agent, and has been steadily dating the young man in the bed, not to mention had said young man's child.

“What was it?” Angela asked, noticing the distracted look in Booth's eyes.
Something about this was bothering him. And it had a lot to do with Zack. Adding to Zack's current injuries, I mean. Angela had a thought: Could it be Katie and Serene?

“Is it Katie and Serene?” She asked, deciding to throw it out there.
Booth looked up, his eyes narrowing.

“Zack said the names in his sleep...”
Booth thought for a moment, staring at the sleeping young man.

“Yeah,” He said finally, “it does.”
Angela saw a 1 appear on her mental scoreboard.

“Who are they?” She asked.
“His lover and their daughter...”
“WHAT!?”
.....
“WHAT!?”
Bones, Hodgins, and Cam were at the door, seeing the look of disbelief on Angela's face. What had he told her. Then suddenly Angela smiled at something else, pointing a finger at Booth and laughing.

“Shut up, Angela,” He grumbled.
Angela took a couple of deep breaths.

“So he's your sister's boyfriend, big whoop. You're an Uncle, Booth.”
Booth smiled and nodded. He pulled a picture out, having snatched it out of Zack's personal effects.

“That's them,” He said softly, handing the picture to Angela.
Angela smiled brightly. Booth's sister, Katie, she guessed, was the very image of her brother, the same color hair, the same skin, the same eyes, the same mouth, nose...And the little girl, baby Serene Katherine Ziva Addy, so the back of the picture said. The picture was taken when baby Serene was a few hours old. The caption on the back said 'To Daddy, love Serene Katherine Ziva Addy'. Baby Serene had Zack's mouth, nose and eye color. But had her mother's hair and bone structure around the eyes, though she'd bet her life savings that she had her Uncle's hands and cheekbones.

“They're beautiful,” She smiled, then turned the picture toward Booth, “I'd bet everything that the baby has your hands and cheek bones.”

They watched Booth take the picture from Angela and examine it, before smiling. He seemed to be agreeing with what Angela said. She took the picture back and slipped it under Zack's hospital gown, over his heart. She pat the picture gently before sitting back down.

“What was that about?” Cam asked nobody in particular.
Before either Bones or Hodgins could reply, somebody spoke.

“Excuse me,” came a soft female voice.
The trio turned around. A girl who looked like a young female Booth, holding a sleeping 3 year old on her hip stood before them.

“I was told that Zack was here,” she said softly, her voice cracked, having obviously been crying.
Booth looked in the room, catching Angela's eyes, drawing the other woman's gaze to the girl before her.

“He's in there,” Hodgins told her, “you're Katie?”
The girl cocked her head, then smiled softly.

“You're Jack,” She stated, “Zack told me about you. Said that you gave him a Kama Sutra book to make him stop bugging my brother about sex.”
Cam and Bones snickered, Hodgins nodding. He pointed to the glass.

“Your brother and my girl are in there with him now.”

“Booth...” Angela spoke finally after a moment of silence.
Booth looked up. What did she want? She pointed to the window where there stood Katie, smiling sadly at her brother. Booth was up and at the door before Angela could stop him.

“Katie...”
Booth stood, shaking, in the doorway. Katie smiled at him and walked up to him, leaning her head on his chest. Booth put an arm around her, bracing himself on the door frame. He held his sister as she cried, as she cried for Zack. He crooked a finger under her chin and brought her bloodshot gaze to his.

“Why don't I take my niece while you go sit with Zack?” He said softly to her.
Katie smiled and let Booth take Serene from her. Serene stirred when she heard a foreign heartbeat under her ear.

“Mommy?”
“This is your uncle, baby.”
Booth gasped softly when Serene turned her big brown eyes up to him, but smiled when his little niece smiled at him. She wrapped her little arms around his neck. Angela left the room as Katie went in, nobody...but Serene...noticing the subtle look at the back of Katie's neck.

“She X-5...” Serene yawned against Booth's neck.
The entire group looked at Serene. Meanwhile, Katie laid her head over Zack's heart, having moved the picture and put it in a silver frame which sat on the side table.

“Oh, Zack...” She whispered.
She closed her eyes as she cuddled close to him on the bed, careful of his hands.


(Flashback)
16 year old Katie splashed cold water in her face, looking into the mirror of the club's bathroom.

“Fuck...” She sighed.
Katie was hitting her second heat cycle in her entire life. She walked out of the bathroom, narrowly avoiding any males and walked out, accidentally bumping into that sweet kid that was at the bar earlier.

“Hey,” She smiled.
He smiled back at her. Damn, he's just too damn cute...Down, girl, She thought to herself, running a hand through her short, but shaggy, dark hair.

“I am sorry if I bumped into you,” He babbled nervously.
Katie smiled at him. Something in the young man's eyes flickered and Katie cocked her head, much like the lynx in her dna. Then she smiled.

“You're an X series,” She said softly.
The young man's head whipped up at a speed that normally would have broke an Ordinary's neck.

“X3, you?”
“X5.”
“Ah,” He chuckled, “I thought so.”
“So what'd they make you for?”
“Think-tank. You?”
“Foot soldier. They wanted to see how a different environment would work on me so they left me with my surrogate.”
“Are you still with them?”
Katie shook her head. She felt a chill up her spine, the adorable X3's scent catching her nose.

“Nope. I was kidnapped at 10, never got returned to them. Was adopted after I was found, been there ever since.”
The X3 nodded.

“So...”
Katie stuffed her hands into her pockets to keep from reaching out and molesting the X3.

“What do they call you?” She asked him, “cause I'm kinda at a loss here...”
He smiled and Katie felt her insides melt.

“Zack...Zack Addy.”
Katie smiled at him and Zack nearly whimpered. A beautiful young, and in heat, X Series was standing right in front of him.

“My name's Katie Gibbs.”
(end flashback)


Katie lifted her head when she felt a hand on it. She looked up and looked into Zack's smiling eyes.

“Hey, sweetness,” She whispered.
Katie leaned over and kissed Zack softly, either having not noticed or was ignoring their audience.

“You're here...” He croaked.
His transgen healing had kicked in, but it did shit for the pain. Katie must have noticed him flinching cause he felt the familiar rush of the pain killers entering his system.

“Serene's with Seeley,” She chuckled, “you should have seen her face when I introduced them...” She shook her head, “just smiling like a fool...”
Zack cracked a soft smile, touching her cheek with his bandaged hand.

“Not to be rude, but why are you here?”
Katie smiled.

“My dad retired to be with Abby,” She told him, “also she, Ziva, and Ducky are transferring to the Smithsonian. To work with Dr Brennan.”
“What about Tony and Timothy?”
“They quit. The director had found out about them and raised hell, so they quit. They are moving here to help me with Serene. Kinda an at home Uncle or free babysitter, however you want to put it.”
Zack chuckled. Katie smiled softly at him, then sighed.

“They don't know what you are, do they?” She whispered.
Zack shook his head, making Katie sigh again.

“You have to tell them sometime, lover.”
“I do not want them to think less of me.”
Katie leaned in and kissed him softly.

“Zack, baby...”
Then they heard Booth speak.

“Serene said you're an X5.”
Katie let her head fall, unable to look her brother in the eye. Zack bared Katie's barcode to Booth, making the older man touch it softly and sigh.

“He's transgenic too, isn't he?”
Zack closed his eyes and nodded.

“Cool,” Hodgins chimed in.
Zack opened his eyes and looked up in confusion.

“So what model?” Angela asked.
“X3.”
“Explains the age gap,” Cam tapped her chin, “Zack's 26 and the X5's are 20 now...”
Booth's eyes narrowed at Zack for a moment.

“So that means my sister wasn't even...”
“Seeley!” Katie said firmly, “Dad was cool with it...”
“Dad?”
“When I was found, they didn't send me back to you guys. I was adopted by one of NCIS' top men.”
“Cool,” Bones chuckled.
“Yeah, Dad's cool. I met Zack the day of my second heat cycle,” She blushed at the memory, “Dad found us sleeping on the floor in front of the fireplace at the house. Abby was rather amused.”
Zack laughed, remembering that day. A child's delighted squeal was heard.

“Daddy!”
Bones picked Serene up and set her on Zack's lap, the toddler crawling up to lay her head on his chest.

“Missed you, Daddy,” She told him, “missed you lots.”
Zack's eyes were brimming with tears. He had missed her too. He wrapped his arms around his daughter gently and sighed.

“I missed you too, Reen.”
Serene smiled and closed her eyes, falling asleep on her father's chest.

“Dad is going to throttle you, ya know,” Katie snickered, “got yourself put in the hospital yet again without letting him know...” she clucked her tongue.
Zack rolled his eyes and stuck his tongue out at her. Katie just smirked.

“Ain't that how we got Serene?” She asked innocently, making her lover blush.
