A Matter of Trust
This is a work of fanfiction based on the tv show NCIS. Another Gibbs/McGee story, this one is based on the episode Twisted Sister season four. I was watching it last night and I seem to only be about to think Gibbs/McGee these days. Anyway I think they had great subtext in this episode. As always I remember Precious Pup who is a constant fan of my Gibbs/McGee fics. I was listening to Sacrifice by Elton John while writing this. I do not own the characters or universe the only thing I own is my own mind and the strange balloon animals it makes.
Gibbs swore silently to himself as he stepped into the elevator and pressed the button that would bring him down to the parking garage and then eventually home. Wearily he pulled one hand across his face and eyes, letting his fatigue show once the doors were closed. Gibbs hated cases that got out of his control and the whole day had been out of control. Part of that Gibbs blamed himself for. He’d known McGee was lying from the moment he read the e-mail, and Gibbs could only blame himself for not going straight out and finding him. He also blamed himself for not being with Tim that night, but Tim had been working on his book. Tim not only insisted he could never write with Gibbs there, but also insisted on writing in his apartment rather then their house. Gibbs didn’t know what he’d been thinking but he certainly hadn’t expected the entire day, not to mention the case, to go down hill so completely and so fast. The only silver lining being Timothy’s sister had ended up being innocent after all and Gibbs had managed to browbeat Jen into giving Tim back his job. This wasn’t to say Gibbs wasn’t still mad at Tim.
“Why didn’t you come to me?”
The words still echoed in his head along with the feeling of sadness and betrayal that had accompanied them. Tim had been in trouble and it had taken him literally hours to come to Gibbs for help, it had hurt, it still hurt a lot. The fact that Tim had screwed up an investigation was nothing compared to the fact that he hadn’t trusted Gibbs enough to ask for help or even tell him something was wrong. Gibbs had spent the whole day not being sure weather he wanted to slap some sense into the younger man or pull him into his arms and never let go. Gibbs closed his eyes briefly before the elevator dinged signaling their arrival. When Tim got home they were definitely going to have a talk.
Tim didn’t actually realize he was shaking until he got into his car that night to drive home. He had seen Sarah back to her dorm room and waited until some of her friends had come over and promised to stay with her at least over night. He had then considered going back to his apartment then decided against it, avoiding the house and Gibbs would only be putting off the inevitable and probably make things worse. For a moment he let his head rest against the steering wheel. He was tired, so very tired and all he really wanted to do was go home and take a shower, crawl into bed and sleep for a couple days. Instead he was going home to a possibly very pissed off ex-Marine lover, and try explaining to him why he hadn’t trusted him as either a boss or a lover earlier that day. He ran his fingers through his hair and hoped his hands would stop shaking soon, then turned on the car and headed home.
Gibbs was down in the basement working on his boat trying to get his temper under control before Tim got home. From somewhere above him he heard the door open then close, then the basement door opened, and footsteps came done the stairs. Gibbs didn’t look up but kept on sanding. Finally Tim stopped on the other side of the boat and just stood there, hands in pockets, waiting. Slowly still without looking at his younger lover, Gibbs put down the stander, wiped off his hands, and walked around the boat until he was facing Tim. Gibbs finally met his eyes and Tim visibly squared his shoulders as if expecting Gibbs to hit him, which would have made a first. Instead, in the next instant, Tim found himself pressed against the boat, Gibbs’ hands on his shoulders, Gibbs’ mouth firmly covering his. The kiss was long and deep and Tim was too surprised to do anything but open his mouth and let Gibbs take him. When Gibbs pulled back, his hands came up to cup Tim’s face, Gibbs’ eyes searching the other man’s.
“What the hell were you thinking?”
Gibbs echoed his earlier question and Tim only shook his head.
“Already know the answer to that Gibbs.”
“But how do I know next time you will come to me?”
“Because next time it won’t be my sister.”
Tim reached out and touched Gibbs cheek.
“If it had been me, and only me, in trouble today Gibbs I would have come to you without a second thought. Please believe me.”
For a long moment Gibbs stood without speaking searching Tim’s face. Then slowly he nodded.
“I believe you.”
He shook his head slightly, than kissed the other man again, his hands wandering down Tim’s sides to slide underneath his dress coat. Tim’s hands came up to curl around Gibbs hips but he let Gibbs take control of the kiss content for now to be kissed and nothing more. Finally Gibbs pulled back but didn’t so much as loosen his hold on Tim.
“Is Sarah Ok?”
Tim nodded.
“Yeah I made sure she got back to her dorm room and didn’t leave until some of her friends came over. I think she’ll be fine though, she’s tough.”
“like her brother.”
Gibbs kissed him again, and Tim sighed into the kiss letting himself go limp against his lover.
“Go up stairs, shower and change.”
Gibbs told him once they’d come up for air.
“I’ll cook dinner.”
Tim raised his eyebrows. But then nodded and headed for the stairs.
“will burgers and mac’n cheese be ok?”
Tim turned and grinned down at his culinary-impaired lover.
“That sounds fine.”
Later, after he’d showered and changed into jeans and a t-shirt and they’d both eaten, they sat together in the living room, Gibbs arm carelessly around Tim’s shoulders. McGee was watching Antique Road Show and Gibbs was trying hard not to fall asleep. The show ended and Tim hit the remote to turn off the t.v.
“Hey”
Gibbs kissed him lightly on the cheek, Tim turned smiling towards him and Gibbs couldn’t help but kiss him on the lips. This time Tim returned the kiss, deepening it letting his fingers flirt with Gibbs’ waist. When they come up for air finally they’re both flushed and out of breathe.
“Upstairs?”
Gibbs voice had become husky. He hadn’t realized until now how upset he still was. After the events of that day, he needed security, needed control, and most of all he needed Tim. Tim’s eyes were half lidded and he slowly licked his lips, a small movement so erotic Gibbs took a deep purposeful breath.
“Yeah”
Tim’s voice had become husky too. Gibbs got up and started for the bed room Tim right behind him. When they entered the room Tim’s hands went to his shirt, but Gibbs stopped him.
“No, let me.”
Gibbs slowly pulled Tim’s shirt off letting his fingers caress down Tim’s chest brushing against the very small patch of hair, moving further down smooth unmarred flesh. Tim shivered and leaned against Gibbs, his head coming to rest against the other man’s shoulder.
“Please, I need you.”
Gibbs turned Tim and slowly walked him to the bed, laid him down and then undressed him with agonizing slowness letting his fingers caress and explore every surface as he reveled it. When Tim was naked Gibbs leaned back and just looked. Tim’s eyes were shut and he moaned softly before Gibbs covered Tim mouth with his for a long, deep kiss.
“I love you.”
Tim’s eyes opened and he looked directly at Gibbs, before reaching up and tracing the lines on his face.
“I will always love you.”
Gibbs closed his eyes and swallowed, feeling sudden tears in the back of his eyes.
“I love you too. You know I do.”
He cupped Tim’s face gently,
“Trust that I will always take care of you. What ever else I will always be there for you Timmy, always.”
He kissed Tim again letting his hands roam down the other’s body.
“Now let my love you.”
Gibbs kissed a slow path down Tim’s jaw, licking sucking and nibbling his way down the other man’s neck. Tim groaned softly tipping his head back to give Gibbs more access to his throat. Gibbs smiled to himself and continued down to where the curve of the neck met the shoulder, there he nibbled and sucked at the soft skin. He ran his hands up and down Tim’s chest. Tim lay back and allowed Gibbs full access to his body. Gibbs kissed his way down to the other man’s chest then looks up at him his eyes asking silent permission. Tim only leaned back and closed his eyes drawing his arms over his head and Gibbs’ lips found one of his nipples and suck gently. Tim hissed softly and brought one hand down to touch Gibbs, just letting his hands ghost against the other man’s shoulders and back. Gibbs’ left sloppy open-mouthed kisses down Tim’s chest and stomach. His hands gently running up and down Tim’s hips, before dipping lower to run along Tim’s thighs. Tim hissed with pleasure, his eyes now fixed on Gibbs’ face and drew his legs apart in an open invitation. Gibbs looked up and met Tim’s eyes holding his gaze for a moment before he smiled softly and took what was being offered him.
Hours late Gibbs woke to find Tim gone from beside him on the bed; he rolled over a few times before sighing. It wasn’t any use he wasn’t going to be able to sleep until he found Tim. Getting out of bed he padded down the stairs. The light was on in the living room and Tim sat legs crossed on the couch dressed sweat pants and a t-shirt. A glass of water sat next to him on the table and he was frowning down at a pad of paper he was in the process of writing on. Gibbs folded his arms and leaned against the doorway of the room just watching him for a moment.
“Working on your book?”
Tim nodded without looking up. There was silence for a few minutes.
“Sara said you defended me today. During interrogation.”
Gibbs shrugged slightly.
“She’s your sister she shouldn’t have been talking about you like that. And I do love you.”
Tim’s eyes snapped up and they stared at each other for a long minute. Finally Gibbs sighed again running his fingers through his hair.
“Tim are you sure you still want to do this?”
Tim stared at him like he’d gone mad.
“What do you mean?”
“This, us, me. It’s not easy, not for either of us and seeing your sister today. It’s not like I’m someone you can introduce to your parents, we work together and there’s the age difference”
“Stop”
Tim got up and moved across the room.
“Gibbs just stop, please.”
Tim put his arms around Gibbs’ waist and kissed him. For a long moment after they broke apart they just stayed there, foreheads pressed together, holding each other.
“ I don’t want someone I can bring home to my parents. I don’t want someone closer to my own age either. I want you. Because it’s you Gibbs, because it’s you.”
They remain just holding on to each other for a few minutes longer then Tim takes Gibbs by the hand and tugs him towards the stair.
“Come on, let’s go to bed.”
And Gibbs follows.
