Down the Rabbit Hole

Okay, this is going to be a little bit of a departure for me...I've never actually watched that much of Stargate Atlantis, but this bug bit the shit outta me when I was reading a fic about it and now I have the itch.

Covenant/SGA crossover....yeah I know, don't give me that look! Oh, and I know that the Cadets at the AFA aren't allowed their phones for a good while, but in my fic they are. Sorry if that offends anyone.

Summery-Tyler Sims disappears after graduation, leaving nothing but an empty room and a rather vague note. The Covenant searches for him for months before they give up, realizing that he doesn't want to be found. Six years later, they are approached by a secret division of the Government and asked to help on the top Secret Stargate project, despite the fact that none of them has anything to do with the Military. Enter Major Tyler Sims. How will the Covenant boys take being reunited with their lost member after so many years, on the eve of facing something that none of them could have imagined in their wildest dreams? Possible Slash, undecided as of right now.

Disclaimer-I own nothing. The Covenant belongs to Sony Pictures, and Stargate and Stargate Atlantis belong to their respective owners, which are not me. I do, however, own Micheal Sanders and Colonel Alexander Hagen, so please don't use them without my permission.

Chapter One-Saying Goodbye is hard to do.

Tyler stared around his room, taking in the emptiness of it. Most of his things were packed up and in a storage facility, waiting for the day that he could come back.

Which he knew would be a long time away.

The youngest Son sighed and picked up his duffel bag, shouldering it and turning to leave the room. He knew that this move was going to hurt the rest of the Covenant, knew that it was most likely enough to constitute a betrayal of the Bloodlines, but he also knew that if he didn't get out of Ipswich and away from the people who thought he was nothing more than a child no matter how old he got, that he was going to die.

Dramatic? Yes. True? Yes.

Tyler had always been known as the Baby Boy, the Son who wasn't powerful enough or assertive enough to take care of himself without the other Sons. He was the one to always be protected, to be coddled, as if he was a child of four instead of a man of eighteen.

And in short, Tyler was sick of it.

So, he was headed for the one place that he knew no one in his family or friends would expect him to go. Because, after all, he wasn't strong enough to make it in the Military. He would fold without the rest of the Sons there to prop him up.

Which made his appointment as one of Massachusetts students at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado slightly ironic. Once there, he would find out if he really was as weak as the other Sons thought, or if he had what it took to become a Commissioned Officer in the United States Air Force.

It was going to be his biggest test, even bigger than his ascension two weeks previous, and he was determined to succeed.

As his bedroom door shut behind him, he forced his thoughts away from what he was leaving, and why he was leaving, and into the future.

It held more for him than the past ever had.

---------------------------------------------------
“Hey, I'm Micheal. You must be the roommate, Tyler right?” Tyler smiled as the other boy held out his hand for a shake, taking it with a grateful smile. It had been a stressful two weeks, and the fact that he had what seemed like a friendly roommate cleared away some, but not even close to all, of his nervousness about being at the Academy.

“That would be me. Tyler Sims.” He dropped his duffel on the bed, absently straightening the cadets uniform that he had been issued upon his arrival. The dorm room he had been given was basic, less than the Dorms at Spencer, and he liked that fact. Here, he would have to prove himself for Tyler, not for the Sims heir that was almost richer than God. Here, money didn't matter. All Cadets started out at the Academy the same.

“Micheal Sanders. From Mississippi. Scared yet?” Micheal had an open face and an easy going smile, causing Tyler to smile back at him. His roommate's southern drawl also amused him, though it wasn't as pronounced as many northerners, including himself, would expect.

“Terrified, friend, terrified. This is actually the farthest from Massachusetts that I've ever been...and frankly, the Colonel scares the crap outta me.” Micheal faked shuddered at the mention of the man that both of them must have been introduced to. Colonel Alexander Hagen was an imposing man, built like a bear and standing just as tall. Tyler had felt his knees knocking just looking at the man, and he sincerely hoped that he wouldn't have to spend much time in the older man's presence. By the look on Micheal's face, he whole heartedly agreed with that hope.

“I know right.” The blond seemed about to go on, but at that moment there was a knock on the door and the Colonel stepped into the room, causing both boys to snap to attention. They may have been at the Academy less than five hours, but they had gotten a really detailed rundown of how to act around the Colonel.

“Surprise Inspection Cadets. Stand outside the door.” Both cadets saluted and headed out the door, no questions asked.

With that, Tyler's life at AFA started.

two weeks later

“Ty! Tyler wake up!” Tyler groaned in his sleep as the pillow Michael threw at him hit him in the side of the head. He sat up groggily, the stress of the day's drills getting to him. “Geez man, your phone has been going off for the last hour. Didn't you hear it?” Tyler shrugged and reached out a hand blindly, pulling his blackberry pearl towards himself. One glance at the number and he groaned even louder, silencing the phone and placing it back on the table, allowing it to carry on its merry way. He sure as hell wasn't going to answer it, not after the screaming lectures he had gotten the first two dozen times he had decided to be the bigger person and answer it.

After all, he may be a Son, but Caleb Danvers no longer had any control over him, no matter how much he cussed and used the Bloodlines against the youngest Son. He wasn't leaving, and Caleb was just going to have to deal with that.

“The Prick again?” Micheal had been privy to several of the arguments that Tyler and Caleb had gotten into, had been there to comfort his roommate when the hatred pouring from one of his former friends had become too much, and so had several unpleasant things that he wanted to say to the eldest Son.

Not that Tyler would let him, of course. No matter what the others had done to him in the past, no matter how he had been treated, he wasn't going to let an outsider intrude in what could be considered Covenant business.

“Yeah, but don't worry about it. Go back to sleep, we have drills in four hours, and the Captain will kill us if we fall asleep again.” with that, ignoring Michaels huff on his behalf, Tyler rolled over and promptly went back to sleep.

-----------------------------------------------------
Caleb growled as he closed his phone with a snap, throwing it halfway across the room. Just what did Tyler think he was doing? Caleb and the others had been calling the other boy for over a month and a half, and they had yet to get any clue as to where the youngest Son was.

Quite frankly, it was beginning to piss him off, severely. Tyler knew that he wasn't strong enough, emotionally or Power wise, to be away from the other Sons, he never had been and he never would be. Caleb and the others had always taken care of him, protected him from the high school fights and done more behind the scenes to keep Tyler safe than the boy would ever know, and for him to just run off like this, it was a betrayal in the worst sense!

“Cal, you have to give it up. If Tyler doesn't want to be found, and doesn't want to come back, he won't. You have to give him space.” Caleb rolled his eyes at Sarah's words as she placed a hand on his shoulder, squeezing comfortingly. She had no idea what she was talking about. Just because she was one of the few people outside the Bloodlines that knew about them, it didn't mean that she was prepared to give advice.

“You don't understand, Sarah. Tyler is meant to be here, in Ipswich, just like the rest of us. Its unthinkable for one of the Bloodline to disappear!” He didn't mention the fact that he had to be there so Caleb could watch out for him, make sure that he wasn't trying to do anything beyond his ability.

Sarah just sighed. “Well, there's no use worrying about it anymore tonight. He's not going to answer, and after the tongue lashings you have given him, I don't blame him. I'm going back to my dorm.” With that, she dropped her hand and walked out of his dorm room, closing the door with a snap that clearly indicated she was pissed at him.

Caleb didn't care.

He had to get Tyler back, for his own good.

Even if he didn't want to come back.

Caleb wasn't going to give him a choice.

----------------------------------------------
Okay, I know that I'm going to get comments about the way that Caleb is acting, but to his mind, and mine, its rather logical. He and the others have always looked out for Tyler, you can see that in the movies, and for Caleb who has a rather inflated Hero Complex, Tyler can't be trusted to be out in the Real World alone, at least not yet. He'll have to change that opinion of the other boy when he shows back up. Hope you enjoyed!
