Dark Crane
As Dr. Thomas Oliver taught on the delicate subject of dinosaur bones, Kira’s mind wandered from the subject he taught to him.
Her mentor and her secret desire, sure it was easy to hide it from the guys but it became harder and harder to hide it from the legend himself. He had lost what little bit of nativity he had while he was in college and she could tell he was more perceptive than what Haley assumed he was just by the way he kept the hacker at arms link, knowing that she had fallen for him. It wasn’t that hard to think they had something going on, with all the late hours Haley pulled in the lair with Dr. O right beside her it was conceivable that they were having sex at the very least.
Kira shook her head and tried to concentrate on the lesson, ignoring the concerned looks Ethan and Conner were shooting her way. As she watched Dr. O give the lecture she was more interested in the way his body moved as he taught than what he was saying, which was why she had a D in the class. Something her mother wasn’t really happy with at all.
As the bell rang for the end of class Dr. O asked Kira to stay for a minute.
As the other students filled out of the classroom Kira used the time to get her mind and body under control. When Ethan and Conner made to stop Dr. O ushered him out of the room, telling them it wasn’t anything important.
“Kira, you’ve got a D. Is something wrong?” he asked as he closed the classroom door.
“I’ve just been having trouble sleeping lately is all, it’s affecting my school work a little.” She said as she fiddled with a safety pin she had pulled off his desk.
Dr. O noticed the nervous fidgeting but didn’t say anything about it.
“Why don’t you hang around after practice today and I’ll let you copy the notes we took today since you couldn’t concentrate and then go over them with you?” Dr. O asked, dropping a bomb on her, or so it felt.
“That’d be fine. I’ll just call my mom at lunch and tell her Conner, Ethan and I will be hanging out at the Café.” Kira said as she moved toward the door, already heading for her next class.
She thought the rest of the day would go by easily enough until the boys cornered her at lunch.
“Kira, what’s wrong? Are you sleeping ok?” Ethan asked as he set down his tray on one side of her as Conner mirrored him on the other side.
“The late night fights are catching up to me is all.” She said, brushing them off as she took a bite of her sandwich. Ethan shot Conner a look that said he didn’t believe her but they dropped the subject and ate their lunch in an uneasy silence.
As the bell rang for them to go to third Conner grabbed Ethan’s arm as Kira stormed past them.
“Leave her be for now. She’ll come around eventually, she always does.” He said as he watched Kira head straight for the doors, leaving before the day was even half over. Conner just sighed and then headed towards the soccer field as Ethan headed for the computer hall.
