Deliver Us From Evil
“Hey!” Tom Hanson couldn’t help himself. “Hey, you.”
“That’s not a very nice way to refer to a girl.” Her voice was like honey on toast. She turned to him and smiled.
“Well, you’re not a very nice girl, are you?” Hanson sneered. The girl’s smile melted off her face.
“I don’t know what you mean by that, but I’m going to have to ask you to get the hell away from me!” she stepped away from him.
“I didn’t---.” Hanson began. She shook her head and started walking away.
“Don’t come near me again.” She called over her shoulder before she began to run.
**
“Great, you scared her off.” Adam Fuller leaned against his desk, glaring at Hanson.
“I didn’t mean to! Honest. But she was turning on that old hooker charm, what was I supposed to do?”
“Let her turn on the charm and play along if that’s what it takes! Dammit, Hanson, now she’s going to be on her guard. You know how hard it is to talk to these BP’s as it is.”
“Bad news, Captain.” Hoffs appeared apologetically in the doorway. “It’s looking like the Widow is the only one who knows anything.”
“Well that’s just grand isn’t it?” Fuller threw his hands into the air. “Well, Tom, since you screwed this one up, you get to go fix it. Don’t show your face around here until you can tell me what it is that girl knows.”
Hanson rolled his eyes and slunk out of the office.
This was not going to be easy.
