His Name in the Green

His Name in the Green

Flora Winters

I do not own Smallville or any of its amazing characters. I also do not own the idea of Poison Ivy. She is one of my favorite villains of all time.

Summary: A young botanist has a little accident in his green house and later sees Smallville ripe for the greening. This will have male/male parings, so if you don’t like it, don’t read it. There will also be some very strong language, just because I like using it.

Prologue

Dustin Thorn was one of the biggest nerds at Smallville High. He was tall, skinny, awkward, and made Erkle look cool. He was picked on daily by the “in” crowd because of his looks and his straight A’s.

His parents told him not to pay attention to what others called him. He was a smart young man and he was going to go far in life. All of the “in” crowd were going to be college dropouts and pregnant by twenty. He loved his parents because they always said the right things that made him feel a little bit better about his self. Unlike some of the “in” crowd, he had never wanted for anything in his life…except the power to fit in.

The only friends he had were the ones he kept in his greenhouse out back. He had flowers, vines, shrubs, trees of all kinds. His dad and mom do a lot of traveling and always brought him home something special from their trips. His Venus flytrap was so big now, it could eat a bird.

One of his favorite past times was crossing plant species to get something new and even more beautiful. He had so many new species and they were so beautiful. Of course, he kept all of his a secret from his parents. He could never worry them about all the poisons and toxins he kept stored away out here.

“What do you think, Rosebud,” he asked a beautiful violet rose with glowing blue hues, “Do you think I should change my hair color and my style of clothing?”

He could not help but smile as he stroked the beautiful plant’s blossoms, being very careful not to prick himself on its deadly thorns. Rosebud was one of his favorite creations. She was simply gorgeous.

Sometimes he wished that the plants could talk back to him. He bet they hall all kinds of interesting things to talk about. When he went walking in the forests out back to collect specimens, he swore that the sounds the trees made were them talking to each other. He constantly told them that they had such lovely voices.

“What about contacts, Rosebud,” he asked with a big smile on his goofy face, “Would I actually look human then?”

His prized possessions remained ever silent as he watered them and turned on some music for them to sleep too. This was his paradise. This was his little patch of Eden.

“If only,” he whispered with a sad smile, “I could just plant my feet in the earth and grow beautiful like all of you.”

“Hey, Dustin,” Chloe Sullivan called out to him in the hallway, “How goes your science project? I can’t wait to take pictures of your plants for the Torch.”

“Hi,” he said with a shy smile and fixed his thick glasses on his roman like nose, “It’s going well. How’re you?”

“I’m just dandy,” she said and put a book in her locker and took another one out, “Just waiting on a certain bumbling farmboy to come help with the layouts.”

“Clark,” Dustin smiled as he closed his locker door, “I have not seen him in forever.”

“He’s probably going to be late again,” she said and motioned for him to come with her, “He’s always late.”

“Did he miss the bus,” Dustin asked and noticed that people were looking at him…as usual.

“Yes,” Chloe said and he followed her into the momentary safety of the Torch, “I lost five dollars to Pete again earlier. I really need to stop betting for Clark Kent.”

Dustin nodded and looked around a little nervously, “Did you need me for something, Chloe?”

“Yes,” she said and took him by the arm, leading him over to the big table in the corner, “I want to stop by sometime tomorrow and take some pictures of your plants.”

“Oh,” he said and his small smile grew, “That would be really cool.”

“Chloe,” a timid voice said from behind them, “Sorry I’m late again.”

Both turned around to see Clark with mud on the front of his jeans, “What happened to you?”

“Fell,” Clark lied with a fake blush, “Coming in.”

Chloe rolled her eyes and let go of Dustin’s arm.

“Oh,” Clark said and smiled at him, “Hi, Dustin.”

“Hi, Clark,” Dusting said in a small voice and turned to Chloe, “Just stop in whenever, Chloe.”

“All right,” she said and waved to him, “Thank you.”

He gave Clark a small nod and quickly left the room. He just had to get the hell out of there. He had a small crush on the cute blonde, but a major crush on the tall farmboy.

It was those two and the kind Pete Ross who were so nice to him. They were the only three who would talk to him when he saw them. It was others who did not know he was even alive and all the rest who picked on him.

His face felt like it was on fire. In his leaving, he had accidentally brushed beside Clark. The tall boy had felt so big and solid. It made his blood boil warm with desire and caused his boys down below to boil as if they were in a skillet.

He quickly made his way to the boy’s restroom on the second floor. It was the one less used, because it was in the science wing. Nobody wanted to catch nerd germs.

He washed his face with cold water and looked at his reflection. His brown hair was straight and even on either side, and his light complexion was clear and healthy. His bright hazel eyes took in his blurred reflection as he put his glasses back on.

He was so…ordinary. No one would ever give him a second glance. Heck, no one ever gave him a first glance. Maybe a haircut, and some highlights? He could buy some new clothes and tell his parents he wanted to try contacts.

The bell rang and he quickly made his way to Chemistry.

“You’re going to his house tomorrow,” Clark asked as he made his way with Chloe through the lunch line.

“Yep,” she said as she picked up an apple, “He grows such beautiful plants, Clark.”

Clark cocked a brow, “Really?” It had to of been years since he had last hung out with Dustin.

“Oh, yeah,” she said with a big smile on her pretty face, “He gave me this beautiful orchid last year which had petals that glowed pink in the dark.”

“No wonder he won,” Clark said and picked up a small bottle of chocolate milk. He loved his chocolate milk. If only it came out of the cows pre-made.

“He’s a kind hearted genius,” Chloe said and the two of them decided to eat outside.

The two of them walked out the door only to stop when they heard someone yell, “Stop it!”

Clark quickly put his tray down and ran off around the corner to see that it was Dustin who was just knocked to the ground, and someone was messing with a big tray of potted plants.

“Hey,” Clark yelled, “Leave him alone!”

Dustin got to his feet and yelled, “What did I ever do to you? Leave that alone!”

Clark saw that it was Whitney and his posy of football players. Why couldn’t they just leave people alone?

“Clark,’ Whitney smiled and picked up one of Dustin’s vines, “Have you come to see this little queer’s science project?”

Dustin’s face reddened and he wanted to cry. These ass holes had totally destroyed his plants. They had been innocent. They had done nothing to deserve such hateful violence.

“Clark,” Chloe called out running around the corner, “What’s going on?”

“Leave him alone, Whitney,” Clark warned, “He’s done nothing to you.”

“Or you’ll what, farmboy,” Whitney asked with a sneer, “Hit me with a shovel…a tractor perhaps?”

Clark narrowed his eyes to green slits. It was the one thing he daydreamed about all the time. There were so many ways to hit that idiot with a tractor. Hell, he could write a children’s book, The Many Violent and Excruciatingly Painful Death’s of Whitney Fordman.

“You really shouldn’t have done that,” Dustin seethed in fury, “Some of those were poison ivy.”

“Fuck,” Whitney hissed and held up his hands, “You little shit!”

“You might want to go shower,” Chloe suggested, “And then see the school nurse.”

Clark stepped in front of Dustin because he was afraid Whitney might actually assault him. The blondes face was really red.

“Come on,” Whitney snarled, “You’ll pay for this, fag!”

Dustin closed his eyes and turned his back to them as they left. He looked at his destroyed plants and fought to keep the tears back. His little innocents were dead.

“Are you okay,” Clark asked when he saw Dustin’s bloody elbows where he had hit the ground, “You’re bleeding.”

“I’m fine,” Dustin whispered and walked over to pick up what was left of his plants.

“Should you be touching them like that,” Chloe asked in concern.

“I’m immune,” Dustin said as he held the tray and stood up, “I’m going home.”

“Are you sure you’re okay,” Clark asked again because he was pretty scratched up.

“Yeah,” Dustin said sadly and began to walk away from the two of them with his head down.

“I can still come over, right,” Chloe asked after him.

He stopped and turned to smile sadly at her, “Yeah.”

“I’ll come too,” Clark said and Dustin hid his surprise, “I want to see.”

“Okay,” Dustin said softly, “See you all later then.”

He closed the door behind him and started crying among the Green. Everything was just so wrong. He was a kind person and yet bad things were always being done to him.

Why had they called him such cruel names? He had done nothing to deserve them. He had never done anything that even hinted that he was bisexual. He liked plants. Why was he always being picked on?

Clark had come to his rescue. Why did he always need rescuing? He was a man. He should be able to save himself.

He looked over at the dead plants and his heart broke. It was all right for him to be picked on. At least he could try and fight back. But, these little silent ones were helpless in the face of such thoughtless and violent destruction.

Suddenly an idea struck his brain like a bolt out of the clear blue sky. Why not create a plant that could fight back when it was threatened. He could try and give the Green a fighting chance.

He had toxins and poisons in little beakers on his lab table. He was sure he could find some way to do it. He had the technology…

That was when another thought struck his genius brain. He pictured Chloe’s Wall of Weird. Didn’t those green meteor rocks cause abnormalities in genes? Maybe he could go find some meteor rocks and do a little testing of his own.

He smiled and went to grab a shovel.

Whitney and his two friends quietly prepared to head to Dustin’s home. He was going to make that dorky little queer pay. He and his friends were covered in that fucking poison ivy shit.

“Are you sure about this,” Adam asked as he picked up the rope.

“We’re just going to scare him,” Whitney said with a chuckle, “Teach him a lesson about who his betters are.”

“It wasn’t really his fault, Whitney,” Steve said with a frown because he was itching like crazy, “He did try and warn us.”

“Shut up,” Whitney snapped, “Or you can go home!”

“Come on,” Adam said getting into the truck, “Let’s just get this over with.”

“Just stick to the plan,” Whitney laughed, “And he’ll be wetting himself like a baby.”

He gave the rope a firm squeeze.

“The emergency numbers are on the fridge, Sweetheart,” Mrs. Thorn said as she kissed her son on the cheek, “Call if you need us for anything.”

“I will,” Dustin smiled and was thankful that they would be leaving.

“Take care of the house, Son,” Mr. Thorn said as he picked up their suitcases, “We’ll be back on Tuesday.”

“Will do, Dad,” Dustin said and saw them to the door, “Have a safe trip.”

The two of them hugged him bye once more and he watched them drive off. They were going to be in Hawaii for five days. Maybe they would bring him back one of Pele’s sacred berry bushes. He had always wanted an Ohelo berry bush. He had told them to leave her sacred rocks alone. That had made them laugh. All they needed to do was bring back one of the Volcano Goddess’ tears. They would have bad luck until they express mailed it back.

When their Hummer was out of sight he made his way out to his greenhouse where his experiment was all set up. He had all the toxins and poisons in place, with the plant and the green meteor rocks. All he needed to do now was add some electricity to the mix.

“Look, Rosebud,” Dustin laughed as he threw the little switch, “Let’s see if we can’t create life.”

The rocks were glowing a real pretty green and the glower was slightly trembling, but no harm would befall it. He had made damn sure of that.

He watched as the beautiful yellow blossoms opened to reveal glowing orange petals inside that were looking more and more like razor sharp fangs. The plant was growing teeth. How was that possible?

That was when he noticed the big brown snake that was in the flower pot. He cocked his head to the side. It looked as though the snake and the flower were melding as one. He was creating a Flora Viper. This would be more poisonous than any snake or flower on earth.

“So beautiful,” Dustin said in awe of his creation.

He then turned the power off to see that the snake and the flower were now one and the same. He had created a new species. Here was a plant that could fight back with the quickness and deadliness of a poisonous snake.

The new creation looked up at him and it made a hissing noise at him. He should have been scared out of his mind but he wasn’t.

“Lovely,” he smiled as he gently reached out to stroke it’s the snake’s gossamer petals, “Absolutely beautiful.”

The new plant made a tiny whining noise and it pulled on his heartstrings. It was so adorable.

“What should I call you,” he asked it.

“Well, would you look at that,” a familiar voice sneered from behind them, “He does talk to them.”

Dustin spun around in fear and narrowed his eyes, “Whitney?”

Whitney smiled and help up the rope in his hand, “Time for some payback, fag.”

Dustin backed away, “What do you want?”

Adam and Steve walked in and Dustin was really getting scared. What was Whitney going to do with that rope? Some pretty terrible images came to mind.

“Grab him,” Whitney ordered and Dustin moved to protect his creation.

“What the fuck is that thing,” Adam asked in horror as he looked at the hissing plant.

“Leave us alone,” Dustin yelled, “We’ve done nothing to you!”

“Screw the plant,” Whitney snapped, “Take him!”

“Stop it,” Dustin yelled only to cry out when Steve knocked the Flora Viper out of his hand.

“No,” Dusting cried out but Steve grabbed him only to push him away when Dustin bit his arm.

Dustin lost his balance and fell over backwards. He broke through the table and literally screamed when all the poisons and toxins fell on him and shattered all over his body.

His breath left him when he felt a sharp pair of fangs in his throat. Tears came to his eyes when he gazed to see his creation doping him with its lethal venom.

“Jesus,” Whitney said backing away and then turned to run for it.

Adam quickly turned and ran after him. He was not sticking around for that thing to come after him.

The toxins and the poisons were burning through the earth and Dustin felt himself sinking with all the plants he loved so much. His blood was on fire and his skin was itching as if it were being covered in oozing blisters. It was getting so hard to breathe.

He could feel the vines he had so carefully tended to gently wrapping themselves around him. It was as if they were cocooning him. All the smells of flora were hypnotic.

“Dustin,” Steve yelled and Dustin could not see him because his glasses had fallen off. He was beyond caring now. He knew he was dying now. They had killed him.

A green glow filled his eyes and the pain just simply went away.

Please review and tell me what you think. The idea came to me while I was watching the Batman movie with Poison Ivy. I just wished they could have found a better actress who could have really pulled off Poison Ivy’s seductive persona. From watching the original Batman cartoon back in the early 90’s…Uma did not do this great character justice.

Flora.
