Summary: Ever wonder why Rodney is so socially inept?

~~~Prologue~~~
Rodney McKay hated hospitals. He hated them with a passion, even the one on Atlantis. Don't get him wrong his best friend was a doctor and he respected him and his opinion but Rodney just couldn't stand people gawking at him all the while having to sit around and wait in a place that reeks of disinfectants.
Rodney knew he teased Carson constantly about voodoo rituals, chicken feet and all that. Really, he should stop doing it one of this days, just not today.
They were staring at him, the medical staff. He hated it when they stare at him like that, like he was a freak. With a few well placed and cutting remarks he sent them scattering back to their duties. Yep, another reason to hate hospitals. The staff seems to think that Rodney was on exhibit or something, here to entertain them. HA! Carson wonders why he was such a nasty patient. The astrophysicist found that few would remain if one is unpleasant enough.
Damn, his body hurt. * Did anyone get the name of the idiot that ran over me and then decided it would be a good idea to back up over me too?* he wondered. Rodney felt like he'd just went nine rounds with Teyla, Ronon, and the Wraith. Thank God for pain killers and Carson for giving them so liberally. Usually he had to bully Carson into giving him more but not today. He knew he should worry about that but he could feel the pain receding so not much on the caring right now. Rodney paused in thought for a bit. *Did I just giggle? Nah.*
He felt his mind begin to wander a bit and allowed himself to smile just a little. Memories from a more pleasant time flit through his minds eye. Remembering a darker part of himself that remained locked away with his childhood. Not the time Rodney had spent growing up with his mother and father. Those two were too busy screaming and fighting with one another to worry with something as trivial as the upkeep of children.
Nope he was thinking about his real family. While Jeannie was sent to boarding school, Rodney was sent to live with relatives that would help pay for and house him while he attended his first college at the age of eleven. *Hello genius here!*
Sighing, he realized he haven't thought about them in a while. He missed his family terribly some days.
Now the others are staring at him. His team mates, Carson, and even Elizabeth was looking at him as if he'd have lost his mind. *I must be babbling again. Huh!*
It wasn't like he cared anymore anyway. Carson's drugs are rolling happily through Rodney's veins thank you very much and he could have been less concerned right now whether or not they thought he was a freak. He knew he'd never really fit in but he did try. With the Addams' Rodney wasn't an outcast, he was family.
He couldn't wait to get up from the examination table, and return to his beloved labs. He wonders what the Family would say about the wraith? Probably remind him of the family credo. Sic Gorgiamus Allos Subjec Tos Nunc, which means, we gladly feast on those who would subdue us.
Snuggling down farther into his doctor appointed bed, Rodney felt his eyes begin to drift close and dream. He dreamed of an old rundown mansion flanked by swamps and quicksand. Dreamed of Grandmama's home cooking and moonlit strolls with Aunt Morticia and Uncle Gomez through the family graveyard. Darkened mists covered memories of Uncle Fester's labs, explosions, mayhem, laughter. Mostly he dreamed of the love his family enveloped him in every day.
Rodney dreamed of home.
Grandmama stared deeply into the crystal ball. There was something wrong and she was hoping to find the answers within it. They had all felt it. The entire family was plagued by this feeling and it could only mean one thing. One of their own was in trouble.
"What do you see?" Morticia asked.
Morticia, who sat on Grandmama's left, was but one person sitting around the seance table. Sitting next to Morticia was Wednesday, then Pugsley, Cousin It, his wife Cousin Margaret, Uncle Fester, and finally Gomez. Lurch's organ music played in the background.
"I see a circle of stone with star constellations on it. Inside the circle is water like a pool. The circle is a ring, called a Stargate. The stargate leads to other worlds, other galaxies. We must use this gate to travel to the Pegasus Galaxy." Grandmama's voice began to change as her eyes rolled back into her head.
Eyes drifted closed as a now male voice came from the older woman as she spoke. "He is in the city of the Ancients. The city of Atlantis. He is in trouble and needs your help. They are killing him."
Wednesday arched a brow, "Who needs our help?"
Her back bowed backwards as Grandmama suddenly snapped her eyes open and gasped out. "Meredith... Meredith is in danger."
