More than friends

“Danny can I talk to you for a minute?” Lindsay asked as they both got ready to leave for the day.
“Sure what’s up?” He asked avoiding her gaze still uncomfortable after their talk almost 2 months ago.
“I was wondering.” She stopped as his cell phone rang.
“Messer.” He said giving her an apologetic look. “Hey, no I’ll meet you in front of my office.” He said smiling into his phone before hanging up. “Hey ya wanna walk wit me?” He asked Lindsay after he hung up.
“Um, I can talk to you later.” She said her face red. “I didn’t know you had plans.” She said following him out of the locker room.
“Ok alright I’ll talk to ya later then.” He said moving away from her and she watched him walk across the room to a tall blonde stunningly beautiful woman that smiled and kissed him quickly on the mouth before walking off with him.
“Hey Linds.” Flack said walking over to her. “You see Messers new girlfriend?” He asked looking up from the case file he was reading.
“I just caught a glance.” She said trying to hide that her heart was shattering into a million pieces.
“She’s kinda crazy, I met her the other night, really fuckin annoying if ya ask me.” He said glancing at her. “Ya alright?”
“Yeah, I’m leaving.” She said blinking a few times. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Hey if wait a sec I’ll give you a ride I’m on my way out.” He said and she smiled.
“I’ll take you up on that since in like minus zero out there.” She said following him into the locker room while he grabbed his stuff.
“So how have things been?” He asked as they waited for his car to warm up.
“Truthfully?” She asked and he nodded. “A little tough but I’m doin ok.” She admitted. “What about you?”
“Pretty good.” He said smiling. “Works insane I have no life just like you probably.”
“Makes it easier.” She said smiling as he headed towards her apartment.
“You know I was shocked that Messer was dating, I thought you guys had a thing.” He said and her face turned red.
“I have no idea what we had, I don’t think it was a thing.” She said embarrassed. “But I’m glad he found someone.” She lied. “Even if she is annoying.” She added smiling.
“And she is.” Don said laughing. “You know if you need anything, a ride, a friend all you have to do is call right?” He asked pulling into her apartment building.
“Thanks.” Lindsay said smiling at him. “I may take you up on that.” She said.
“Feel free.” He said waving as she hopped out of his car and ran into the building. “May make Messer crazy but I can take him.” He said to himself as he pulled away.

“So how’s things going?” Don asked Danny as they drove back to the lab after a scene later that week.
“Man Shelly wants me to go to thanksgiving at her parents.” Danny said cringing. “I do not do parents.”
“You tell er?” Don asked.
“No, I tried.” Danny said shrugging. “Hell I’ll probably end up going.” He said shaking his head.
“Flack.” Don said answering his cell phone.
“Hey Don.” Lindsay said.
“Hey Linds what’s up?” Don asked aware that Danny perked up and was pretending not to listen.
“You know how you said if I needed anything?” She asked nervously.
“Yeah, I meant it.” He said smiling as Messer squirmed.
“You wanna grab a beer tonight?” She asked.
“Sure, we can leave as soon as I get back if ya want.” He said drumming his fingers on the steering wheel.
“Ok I’ll see you when you get here.” She said hanging up.
“Huh.” Don said shutting his phone and grinning.
“What’s dat smile about?” Danny asked sounding a little pissed off.
“Nothing.” Don said unable to wipe the stupid grin off his face.
“What’s Monroe want?” Danny asked a minute later after trying to talk himself out of asking.
“So who do ya think our doer is?” He asked avoiding the subject.
“I dunno.” Danny said watching his best friend wondering what the hell was going on.

“You ready?” Flack asked Lindsay as she pulled on her coat.
“Yeah.” She said smiling as he opened the door for her leading her to the elevators.

“What the fuck?” Danny asked out loud as he watched Lindsay laugh at something Flack said as they waited for the elevator. “They leavin together?” He asked out loud trying to be discreet about watching.

“What’s your plans for Christmas?” Lindsay asked as they shared a pizza.
“Avoidin the family work as much as possible.” He said smiling. “You?”
“I have to go home.” She said. “My sister is getting married on Christmas Eve and I’m the maid of honor.” She said staring into her plate.
“You don’t sound happy about it.” He said watching her.
“I’m not.” She said sighing. “I hate to even ask this, and I was gonna ask Danny but there’s a lot crap going on with that and now he has a girlfriend but.” She stopped clearing her throat. “I was wondering if you would come home with me?” She said. “There’s a guy, I used to date him, his name’s Brandon and long story short he beat me pretty bad and spent some time in jail, he’s out now and he lives in my hometown and I’m scared to go by myself.” She said. “I don’t think he’ll try anything at the wedding stuff and I know if I have a man staying with me in my house he won’t try anything.” She said her face red. “His brother is marrying my sister so I’ll have to see him and Shane says he’s changed but I’m still scared and the last time I talked to him he said he was gonna kill me.”
“Shit Lindsay.” Don said looking scared for her. “Maybe you shouldn’t go.”
“I have to go, with or without someone, I can’t let him keep me from my life.” She said tears filling her eyes. “I know it’s a lot to ask and I guess you’re the only one besides Danny that am at all close to.”
“I’ll go.” He said smiling. “I’m just a little worried about Messer to tell you the truth.” He said. “He about lost it in the car when he figured out I was talking to you and he is my best friend.” He said.
“I waited all day for him to be gone so I could call you.” She said shaking her head. “I don’t want to hurt your friendship.” She said sadly.
“Tell me what happened with him?” He asked and she sighed and told him the whole story.
“I tried to talk to him about it, about 2 weeks ago but he’s done, he doesn’t want to hear. I told him I made a mistake pushing him away and he said I was probably right, that we should just be friends.” She said sadly. “I didn’t mean to hurt him, I heard about Brandon getting out of jail and it freaked me out.”
“He’s an idiot.” Don said sighing. “He does care about you.”
“Well it doesn’t matter now. I don’t want to cause any bad blood between you too.” She said.
“Don’t worry about it, besides he probably won’t even find out.” Don said shrugging. “But you have to do me a favor.” He said smiling his face pink.
“Does it have anything to do with Stella?” Lindsay asked smiling.
“Yeah.” He said. “I’m in love with her and she just doesn’t see me.” He said shaking his head. “But I have a plan.”
“Ok what’s the plan?” Lindsay asked.
“I want you to take dance lessons with me.” He said face redder now. “It’s important to her and I’m gonna ask her to the NYPD ball after the new year and I want impress her.” He said.
“Sure when are the classes?” She asked.
“Wednesdays and Fridays, 7pm.” He said. “Starts in a week.”
“I’m there.” She said smiling brightly. “We can keep this our secret.” She said smiling.
“We gotta turn in a request for time off in, when are we leaving?” He asked and she filled him in.
“So we start dance Friday?” Lindsay asked as he drove her home.
“Yeah.” He said smiling. “Why don’t you tell Messer about this guy?” He asked.
“I was going to, but I don’t know, I just don’t like people knowing I was weak and let him hurt me.” She said. “Can we keep it our secret?”

“Hey I turned in my request today.” Lindsay whispered to Flack as they met in the hall.
“Yeah me too.” Don whispered back. “You ready for tonight?” He asked moving a little ways away from her as people walked by.
“Yeah are we leaving from here?” She asked looking up as Danny headed over to them.
“Yeah we can grab something to eat.” He whispered looking up as Danny stepped between them.
“Secrets guys?” He asked his eyebrow lifted.
“No.” Flack said smiling despite all efforts not to.
“We have a case.” Danny said sighing. “We’re meeting Mac.” He said and they all left and he rolled his eyes as Lindsay gave Don a look about the stupid grin.
“I can’t help it.” He whispered as they got on the elevator.
“Try.” She whispered back.

“Stop laughing at me.” Flack said walking into the break room seeing Lindsay crack up and turn around so he wouldn’t see her laugh. “I mean it.” He said smiling.
“I’m sorry.” She said letting loose and laughing hard.
“What’s this about?” Danny asked Stella as they waited for Mac to give them assignments for the day.
“I don’t know.” Stella said watching as Lindsay whispered to Don and he laughed loudly.
“Hey guys, Stel and Danny you have a case at Strawberry Fields, Lindsay you and Shel keep working your case from yesterday.” He said barely glancing up. “Hey you two.” He said pointing at Lindsay and Don. “You need to turn in your earned time requests, I approved your time off for Christmas but you gotta talk to human resources, and you both have to work Christmas next year.” He said and they both turned red and it got really quiet in the room. “And I want a picture of Flack out of New York.” He said and looked up smiling realizing the you could hear a pin drop and Lindsay and Flack looked horrified. “Oh sorry was it a secret?”
“Um.” Lindsay stammered.
“Well um.” Don said looking at her and then back at Mac. “We should get busy.”
“Yeah I have work and stuff.” Lindsay said turning and leaving.

“Where’s Flack?” Danny asked pissed off and needing to beat the shit out of his best friend.
“He and Lindsay are in the bathroom.” Sheldon said laughing. “They need lessons on how to be discreet.” He said laughing as he walked off.
“Fuck me.” Danny said standing in the hall watching the bathroom door, itching to go in but waiting for them to come out.
