A Knight's Tale
Picard, Riker, and Troi waited in hangerbay three as the ambasador's personal shuttle came through the forcefield and landed gracefully on the deck. The shuttle was an odd design, although it looked similar to a normal shuttle it was nearly twice as large and had retractable warp nasceles. It could reach warp six. According to records the ship had been designed and built for the admiral by a class at Starfleet Academy while he was an instructor there. Now, however the admiral was coming aboard to assist in contact with a mysterius race that through time anomaly has requested to resume contact/initiat contact. The detail were rather vague and, like most Starfleet captains, even the mention of time travel gave Jean-Luke a headache.
A few moments after the craft had landed the Admiral and his assistant debarked in civilian atire. The Admiral was slightly taller than Picard with blond hair and blue eyes. His assistant was of a hight with Riker with dark brown hair and blue eyes. Both wore thier hair long and pulled back and tied at the base of the neck with a cream colored ribon. They also wore similar clothes; loose fiting peasant style shirts over slacks, although the Admiral's was black on black while his assistant wore dark blue with baby blue embroidery. Thier sandals made no sound as they came to stand before the the oficers. The Admiral extended his hand for a handshake.
"Captain Picard, I'm glad to finaly meet you in person." He smiled as he held the captain's hand briefly. "This is my assistant Micheal."
"Pleased to meet you." The younger man said.
"Admiral Forrester, this is my Number One, Commander William Riker, and my ship's councelor, Diana Troi. Welcome aboard the Enterprise. I thought there were three people in your party?"
"Alexa, our pilot, will be staying on the shuttle for safety reasons. I'll expain shortly. Do you have a briefing room ready for the contact and negotiations?"
"Yes, I'ld like to know as much as posible about this race before we come face to face."
"Too late." Micheal mumbled as Picard led them into a turbo lift.
Riker leaned in close to Diana and wispered, "Why does everyone have to make jokes about time anomalies?"
"How many are coming to the Enterprise?" Picard asked to cover his amusement.
"Only two, community Elders who are on the Coucil of Elders." It was a very short walk into the briefing room from the turbo lift. Picard introduced his comand staff to Admiral Forrester.
"Now Admiral, please tell us about this species."
"The species native planet is Earth."
"Earth?"
"They are minimal shapeshifters, on the surface they look like average humans. There are signs that can be looked for. They don't age like humans do, or eat food while others watch. Ultra-violet radiation is deadly to them. The average body temperature is seventy-five farenhiet with a heartbeat once every ten seconds. They need very little oxygen so they don't have to breath for long periods of time. Most of them have some level of telepathy and empathy and almost all have the ability to supress memories of Humans and some Humanoids. Thier entire culture is centered around keaping thier existance a secret. Until three days ago the punishment for breaking The Code was death. The seven eldest of the race form the Council of Elders whose duty it is to maintain order in the Comunity. Two council members have volunteered to reviel thier identities."
"When will they arive to speak with us?"
"That's the problem, I can't represent the Federation in this discusion. You, Captain, will be the senior oficer present. I am out of uniform because the volunteers are already here. My true name is Nicholas De`Brabant. I am the second eldest of the Council and the chosen representative of the Vampire race. This is Micheal Emerson."
"Second youngest of the Council of Elders and leader of the Enforcers, our police force."
"Well, I think this is the first time that an admiral has represented his own race's first contact with Starfleet. Would you allow Dr. Crusher to scan you?"
"Yes, just one moment." Both men pulled up on his right sleave and removed a small device attached to thier bicepts. "These camoflage us to scanning technology."
Dr. Crusher scaned them both. "They are definitely not human. Some of the organs are the right shape but not close enough. I can't match them to any known race. If you will alow me to do a more thourough examination later in Medical, I can establish a baseline for your race. This will help us help you if any member of your race needs medical attention."
"You said you were a Vampire?"
"We never truly gave ourselves a name, and we have no language of our own. 'Vampire' is a name Humans gave us and built legends around us that are close enough to the fact that we began to use it ourselves."
~You said you were telepathic?~Deana focused.
~Yes~ His voice filled her mind. "Different vampires have varied levels of telepathy, empathy, and sometimes other... talents. Usualy these are stronger in older vampires although some fledglings exibit strenghts. Fledgling is our term for a very young vamipre. The parent vampire is called 'Sire', this is also the term we use for creating a new vampire. Childe is a term for a vampire that is younger than you, although it is mostly considered a derogatory term."
"Is there a term for an older vampire."
"Master, Elder,"
