She had this habit of walking into her office in the middle of the night and not turning any lights on. She hit the power button on her computer and when she came back up, the two eyes that were looking at her from the couch, made her cry. She turned around, covering her face in her hands, trying to fight the tears. She didn't even know she had been that much on edge until that very moment. 'You startled me', she said in a calm voice, not letting on how much he had actually scared her. 'I'm sorry, but I was really hoping you'd come back here, Bones.' Booth was lying on her couch, his laptop on his chest.
Once Tempe had dried away her tears, she turned back to him and sat down. 'Why would you hope that? A new case that's urgent?' No she wouldn't give him a chance to see how vulnerable she was. She wouldn't let it on anymore. 'Bones...' She could almost hear how he rolled his eyes at her. 'Come on. You mope around all day and expect us not to notice?' Not even Angela could get through to her, so Booth decided to do some after hours investigations.
'Yark yark!' A little blue robot dog entered Tempe's office and startled both with his weird bark. It ran right past her desk and around the couch. 'What the heck is that?' Booth sat up a bit, watching the robot grab a book on a low shelf and run back to her desk. It almost run into the trash bin but managed not to fall over. 'That's Zack's latest toy.', Tempe explained. 'But I told him not to make it steal my books!' The two of them watched it run into the glass of the door. 'Zack really is a twisted assistant!', Booth muttered. The robot dog got back up, grabbed the book again and left the office without further incident. A moment later they could hear Zack talking to it. 'Thank you Rodog. Now let's go see what Sofia is doing.' Booth didn’t even want to know.
'I wasn't moping! I was just very busy today!' Tempe tried to explain. She had really tried not to be sad all day and hid a lot in her office. But quite obviously she wasn't a good actress. 'Bones... look the others are not here now. You can tell me, as a friend, what bothers you. I won't tell anybody else!', Booth offered. She looked at him in the semi-dark room and for once he seemed sincere. He was still just lying on her couch, out of sight for anybody else that might look into the office. The moment felt a bit too personal all of a sudden; The two of them alone in her office in the dark. Anybody else would probably just go ahead and tell their story, but she couldn't. Not like that. She knew Booth wouldn't understand.
'Oh good, you're still here...' Angela walked in, not noticing Booth on the couch. 'Would you mind to scoot over a bit, sweety?' She fell on her knees next to Tempe and started searching something under the desk. 'Angela? What IS going on?' Tempe was more than just confused. Angela popped her head out from under the table. 'That's Brian, just talk to him for a moment, okay?' And she was gone again. Booth watched the whole bizarre story with a grin on his face. He couldn't help but think what Angela might be doing under Tempe's desk. But by the way Tempe was looking, it wasn't what he had in mind.
'Brian... what?' Tempe saw a tall guy standing in front of her office. 'Hi, I'm Angela's...' - 'FOUND IT!' Angela exclaimed and was waving a pantyhose in her hand. 'I musta lost it here last night when... good night sweety!' She gave Tempe a brief hug and ran back to Brian, leaving as quickly as she came in.
Tempe looked back at Booth. 'I really have to start to lock my door at night!' - 'No, you need new assistants! Maybe a bunch that isn't as squintish as those!' He made a face. 'You would like that, wouldn't you?' Tempe said. 'Oh, most likely. It's much nicer being around normal people than squints. But I would also like for you to tell me what's wrong!' He wasn't going to let her change the topic like that, oh no!
'Okay, Booth, let's assume just for a moment that there is something wrong. But why would I tell you?' She shut her computer off. It had become a moot point to work in her office. She wasn't able to concentrate as long as Booth would stare at her in the dark. 'Because, Bones, we're partners and we're friends and that's what partners and friends do, we listen and help each other!' He closed the top of his laptop and all she could see now was the sparkling of his eyes. Did he really just let on that he considered her a friend? Did he really offer sincere help? And he wasn't mocking her? Her insides felt just the tiniest bit tinglish over this. That was nice.
'Oh good, you are still here!' Hodgins walked in, knocking over the empty trash bin as he approached her desk in the dark. 'What now?' Tempe asked a bit harsh. How was she supposed to keep up with all of this? Why would people constantly bother her when she finally was feeling appreciated around Booth. 'Oh don't snap at me!', Hodgins exclaimed. He put a file on her desk. 'Here are the results Booth had declared an emergency this afternoon. And you had to agree, didn't you!' Tempe just looked at him confused. 'Is this about Booth again?' She had no clue what Hodgins was going on about. 'Is this about Booth again? AGAIN? Isn't it always about him?' Hodgins turned around and stomped out of her office. 'Booth! HA! Who needs a booth anyway? Tables and chairs are so much nicer!'
'And I thought when I ignored him, it would get better!' Booth finally sat up. Tempe couldn't help but grin at the whole situation. 'I'm sure if I tell him tomorrow that you actually heard that, he is so going to be your best friend again!' Part of her was just waiting for Daniel to walk in now. But he had a family and was being a good father and husband and was already home.
'What do you say Bones, why don't we get out of here? Maybe a calmer place where we could talk in private?' Booth got up and offered her his hand. 'Maybe I'd like that!', Tempe replied and took his hand to get up. She wanted to agree right away but she felt awkward to open up to him like that. And it was the first time in her life that she didn't act according to her feelings. Booth has made her suspicious - suspicious of him and her own feelings.
'Don't forget to lock the door!' - 'Right.' She grabbed her key chain in her bag. But once she had found the right key, she dropped the whole thing on the floor. 'Damn...' Just for a split second she hesitated to pick it up, so Booth went for it. It took him a good moment longer than he had planned. As much as he enjoyed the dark, sometimes it also bothered him a lot. He couldn't possibly look like a loser in front of Bones. His ego wouldn't cope well with that.
But when he got up again and wanted to hand her the keys, he could see tears in her eyes and on her cheeks. 'Bones...?' He put the keys in his own pocket and carefully placed a hand on her hip. 'What is it? What happened?' He had the softest voice in that moment. 'It's my brother', she whispered. 'He died yesterday!' He could see more tears flowing over her face now. His first instincts told him to cuss her out because she hadn't told him earlier. But for once he didn't listen to his instincts but more to his heart. He wrapped his arms around her and just held her. 'I'm sorry Bones!', he whispered while she was softly sobbing on his shoulder. 'I know he was the only family you had left.' She pressed her face against his shoulder when he said that. Just a few minutes ago she had been sure Booth wouldn't understand that part. And now everything had changed. She was glad she had told him. But she was even more relieved that he completely understood why this was so bad. She didn't even think once that he would have given her that kind of understanding, no matter who had died.
'Come on Bones.' He locked her door with one hand and still held her with the other. 'I'll drive you home!'. Tempe took a moment to collect herself. And as she was wiping the tears from her face, she said: 'I'd actually like to just go for a walk. Will you join me?' Booth smiled.
When they stepped outside, it was raining. It was the middle of the night, both didn't feel too great emotionally and it was raining. Tempe didn't hesitate to step into the rain. It made Booth smile again. 'It's just water.' She said. 'Sometimes I just don't get the fuss people make about it, you know.' Tempe slid her hand into his and they began walking. Sometimes they turned right, other times left. She enjoyed the feeling of the rain on her skin. It was much better than tears. 'You know, my brother used to say that sometimes you had to get wet before you could get hot again. And then he would take a walk in the rain.' Booth made a face at her, trying to look cool while shaking rain out of his hair. 'And what does it mean?' They turned right. 'Honestly, all those years, I have never figured out what he meant by it.' Now it was her turn to make a face. 'It bothers me now. I should have asked him'. Booth squeezed her hand. There was nothing worse than to regret something after a beloved person died. He knew that. He knew that a little too well. 'At least there will always be something to think about when you think of your brother.' She squeezed back and they stopped walking. 'You're right.' She smiled. Then Tempe felt the urge to press her lips onto his. She considered it for a moment and decided to follow her feelings this time. Booth closed his eyes once he felt her warm and soft lips on his. His hand automatically moved to the back of her head and was pressing her closer to him. No, he hadn't seen this one coming. And he also hadn't planned on it. This was all her doings. And he enjoyed that part very much.
She drew back but he followed her, unwilling to break this kiss just yet. His hand moved to her cheek and he let go of her lips. She was mildly smiling. 'What was that for?' He softly caressed her face now. 'Nothing special, just following my feelings', Tempe explained. His arm fell around her shoulders and they started walking again. 'That was nice. You should have done this much earlier.' Booth was wildly impressed with how he handled the situation. It wasn't awkward nor creating any other kind of negative feeling. Bones certainly wasn't like any of the previous girls he had kissed. She certainly knew how to take him. And when.
They stopped again at a junction. 'If we turn right, we can go to my apartment.' Tempe said. 'And if we turn left, we can circle back to the Jeffersonian.' - 'Yes, and if we go straight, we'll end up at my place.' Booth explained. 'Oh have I mentioned, I moved last week end.' He felt smug how he worked this into their conversation. 'Bones, do you want to go to my place?' - 'I'd like that!'
'Trés chic', Tempe explained when they entered his new place. Booth didn't reply since he didn’t know what it meant. Tempe just closed the door behind her and leaned against it. 'Why didn't you tell us that you moved?' He stood in front of her, not wanting to take his eyes off her. 'I was afraid that you squints would want to help me move and then have some sort of squint-party at my place.' She waited for him to make a face, but he didn't. 'I just couldn't have Zack in here with some of his insects. Also ignoring Hodgins in your huge lab is easy, but here in my two bedroom apartment...' It scared her a little how sincere he sounded. 'And if I had just invited you and Angela, we wouldn't have moved anything that day!' He grinned a little and decided to change the topic right away. His hand reached for the light switch as he was nibbling at her lower lip. This was so much better than discussing squints. Booth switched the lights off. This was fitting their theme for this night better. Besides she didn't need to see the mess in his apartment.
He reached for her belt and started to unbuckle it. 'Lift your hands up', he said and grabbed the hem of her sweater. 'What are you doing?', she asked in between kisses. 'I'm undressing you. We're both soaked and I wouldn't want you to get sick because of our little walk.' And the sweater met the belt on the floor. 'Mhh yeah right...' She reached for his shirt and started to unbutton it.
Tempe was still leaning against the door when she was only wearing her panties. She was already working on Booth's pants but he was being a bit squirmish at the moment. She pulled him a little closer, finally managing to get his pants down. Booth softly cupped one of her breasts with his hand and started to explore her body with his other. He moaned a little. Tempe clearly was on the heavier side - for the lack of a better word - than any of the girls he had been with before. Until now he only thought that thin blond girls were really attractive. So for a very brief moment he wondered what the hell he was doing here and that he would only end up disappointing Bones. But then he felt her hands on his body. And they were in the right places right away; None of the mostly unnecessary cuddling or stroking, rather just touching and heavy stroking in all the places that got him going.
He pressed his face against her neck and groaned. This was so much better than a young and inexperienced dumb girl. Bones might not be blond and not as thin as his usual girl, but she was a lot more experienced and getting to the point right away. He never again wanted to trade! He was keeping her.
'I'd very much like to see your bedroom now, Booth!' Tempe whispered into his ear. She had a huge smile on her face. She hadn't expected him to react to her that fast nor that forceful. Apparently he wasn't quite used to that kind of treatment. He got ride of the boxers and the pants around his ankles as fast as he could.
She had made herself comfortable in the middle of his bed. She was waiting for him to undress her completely, something he wasn't quite used to. He slowly crawled over her, kissing her skin on the way up. He kissed her ear and then went back down. This time he was slowly taking her panties off rather then kissing her skin. 'Mhh...' She held back a little with the moaning as he pushed her legs apart. She also held back when he introduced his tongue to her wet spot. Instead she tangled her fingers into his hair and pressed him closer.
He didn't know if she was already done when she pulled him back up and thus was a bit confused. But he was just getting to know her so he decided not to mind too much about it. He kissed her softly. It gave him a very special blood rush between his legs to see her taste herself on his lips and tongue. Tess never did that. But then again, Tess was blond.
'Booth?' Her voice ripped him out of his negative musings about Tess. He had to stop this anyway. 'What would you like to do?' She asked softly as she wrapped her arms around him again. He gulped on the inside. 'What do you mean?' Again, the blond girls wouldn't ask him. For them there was only one thing to do. He had never spend much time thinking about why everybody always though he had a great sex life when in fact it was only average, if even. But now it started to dawn on him that there was, in fact, more than just one position a girl could enjoy.
'Well, how would you like to...' Tempe kissed him again and stroked him at the same time to illustrate what she meant. But when Booth didn't respond in a timely fashion, she scooted a little closer. She took his manhood in a firm grip and started to whisper in his hear. 'We could... or.... or do you like...' With each word she said, she felt him grow bigger and harder. For a moment she had the clichéd image of the old lady teaching the young boy in her head. It was amusing.
Booth moved back a bit so he could look at her face. 'I'd love to... all of it... but how about we start out with something not so... demanding?' He grabbed her hand and made her stroke him much harder. He didn't want to jump the proverbial gun, he just wanted to get to know her slowly. But then again, she might have just teased him with it all.
Tempe leaned in again to kiss him. She couldn't wait to feel him inside of her. 'I can live with number two on my list... ', she said. 'Mhh...' His hand slowly found its way back between her legs. He was softly probing her with his finger. 'Yes, I see... I'm as ready as you are, love.' He removed his finger, and as to muffle any protest coming from her, he instantly pressed his lips onto hers again - all the while his other hand was frantically trying to open the drawer on the night stand so he could reach the condoms.
Three weeks later
After having spent several nights at her place, he had started to wonder what the rocking chair was for. She never seemed to use it at all. Also it was in a rather odd place in the apartment. You could see no window from there and no other kind of entertainment - like the TV he brought a week ago.
They both sat in the rocking chair now. He pulled her up just a bit and groaned. The blanket was still wrapped around them tightly. Booth had one hand pressed onto her belly, trying to keep her from sliding down again. His other hand was nestled between her legs, caressing her clitoris the way she liked it. He hadn't anticipated her getting so wet. Heck he hadn't anticipating any of this feeling as good as it did.
He had to apologize to her for the TV he had brought to her place. Tempe had gotten rather mad when he told her about it. She hadn't even seen it yet but she made him apologize to her right there in the kitchen, three times in a row, on his knees. Booth couldn't remember that apologizing felt so nice. The next day he had also brought a PlayStation to her place. This time he was apologizing to her on the table in the living room. Twice.
Booth pushed his foot a little harder and faster so their rocking would increase. It made her moan softly.
It had only taken him 3 weeks to figure out what the rocking chair was for, and to his big surprise it entitled number 3 from the list Tempe made that first night.
She propped her legs up now, leaning back a little more. 'I really like that number three!', Booth whispered. 'Mhh I had a hunch you would!'. She leaned back into him and she definitely wasn't holding back anymore.
A rocking chair and an anthropologist, he thought, what a great combination!
