I do not own Smallville
Summary: Something bad is going down in the small town of Smallville and it’s all Lex’s fault. He has always been too curious for his own good. If only he had not tripped and fallen that day while snooping around the Kent farm when the elder Kent’s were out of town and Clark was at school.
Chapter One
Lex Luthor knew damn well that what he was doing was clearly illegal, not to mention breaking some serious trust issues with his best and only friend Clark Kent. Curiosity has always gotten the better of Lex, and he thanked whatever mystical force that governed this universe that he had not been born a cat, even though he knew he would have made an adorable hairless kitty for a certain farmboy to take care of.
He knew Clark would be at school until three. He knew this because he had had an underling call the school to find out for him because Lex Luthor just did not do things like that. He was a good guy. Clark had told him yesterday at the Talon that his parents would be in Metropolis all day today and would not be back until late tonight. Lex had to laugh because the Kent’s knew better than to leave Clark alone for long periods of time when he threw that party. It was going to be a small party, just a few friends. Lex had no idea a few people meant the entire school and then some. But it had been funny to watch Clark’s face when the fireworks lit up the farm. He would never forget Clark saying, “I’m dead.” Lex had to admit, he was good.
He would have been better if he noticed that rock sticking up out of the ground. But as usual he was so lost in his thoughts and fell flat on his face. He heard something break and did not see that a bright green flash went off around him. He laid there stunned for a few minutes cursing the day he ever sat foot on the Kent farm.
He opened his eyes and rolled over to sit up. He felt something wet above his left brow and touched it to find that he was bleeding. He looked over to see a sharp rock where his head had been and grumbled. Lex knew that he was ok until he stood up and looked down to see that his right shoe was completely ruined. Cursing, he kept exploring the empty Kent farm.

Clark was sitting on the bus in a seat all by himself. He had a terrible day at school and was mad as hell. Every time he got near Lana and her stupid necklace he would fall flat on his ass sicker than a dog. He would be talking to either Chloe or Pete and she would walk up and he would double over in pain. He would never forget the day she hugged him and he passed out and fell on top of her in gym class. Chloe would never in a million years let him live that down.
He was brought out of his thoughts when Chloe gasped from the seat across from him. He turned to look at her and she pointed in horror and he noticed that he had punched a hole right through his seat. Both of them looked around to make sure no one saw. Clark put his head down. He never lost control like that. Thank the stars there was hardly anyone riding the bus today and that all the popular kids sat in the back.
****************************************
The bus pulled up to the drive of the Kent farm and Clark said goodbye to Chloe and got off the bus. He watched the bus drive out of sight and used his supers speed to hurry into the house.
He made himself a sandwich and drank the milk straight from the carton. His mother hated it when he did that. She would ask him, “Where did you learn your manners,” and he would reply with, “On a farm.”
He always laughed at the face his mother would make and then she would make him do the dishes out of spite and not let him do use his powers either. He would gasp in mock horror and swoon at the thought of never being allowed to use his powers which in turn made his dad laugh.
He finished his sandwich and raced up the stairs to change into some work clothes. He put on some well worn jeans with holes everywhere and a torn red shirt. He took of his shoes and headed down the stairs to put his work shoes on.
Clark was making his way to the barn when he heard, “Goddamn it! What is with these people? Jesus fucking Christ! That hurt! Now what the hell do I do?”
Clark stood in front of the door to see Lex swinging around in a net made out of ropes and netting. He was kicking and clawing and yelling to every known god to man to get him down.
Clark busted out laughing, “Well, I see dad finally caught what was stealing the grain.”
Lex fidgeted and twirled around to look at Clark in horror. Clark cocked his head to the side laughing, “Hi.”
“Hi,” Lex said, “I thought I would just stop by and see how you were doing since your parents are out of town for the day.”
Clark looked confused, “I didn’t see your car.”
“I had my limo bring me by,” Lex lied.
“Oh,” Clark said and walked by him.
Lex watched Clark in frustration as he bent over and picked up a pitchfork and started to pitch some hay when Lex asked, “Clark, aren’t you forgetting something?”
Clark looked at him with a confused expression of his goofy face, “What am I forgetting Lex?”
“To get me down you insufferable farmyboy,” Lex all but yelled.
“Oh, well why didn’t you say so in the first place,” Clark said matter of fact and walked over and cut the rope and Lex yelped as he fell flat on his face for the second time that day.
He raised his head up and looked at Clark, “You did that on purpose.”
“Did I,” Clark asked with a finger on his bottom lip with a thoughtful expression.
Lex rolled his eyes as Clark helped him out of the tangles of rope and netting. He stood up and Clark laughed at him. He had never seen Lex look so dirty and disheveled. His shoes were destroyed, his pants and shirt were ripped beyond repair. He even had a cut on his left brow.
“What have you been up to Lex,” Clark asked.
“Let’s just say Clark, getting from the limo to the barn is very dangerous,” Lex told him massaging his left arm.
Clark took Lex by the hand and Lex looked at him questioningly. Clark rolled his eyes and led him out of the barn and into the house. He had Lex to sit down on the couch while he went to get the first aide kit.
Lex just lay there in a state of confusion until he saw Clark bring in a small white box with a red cross on it. He smiled to himself. Clark was the best and only friend he had ever had. Lex tried to sit up but Clark put a big hand on his chest to keep him from doing so. He looked at Clark questioningly but Clark smiled and that reassured him.
So he just stayed the way he was watching Clark open the box and pull out some small package and opened it to reveal a small towel, and Clark leaned over him to wipe the cut clean. He noticed that it was starting to bruise a lovely shade of purple on that pale skin. Lex realized that he was holding his breath while Clark cleaned his wound. Clark always smelled so nice and Clark like. If only he knew that Clark was thinking the same thing about him. He felt sad when Clark moved away and then happy when Clark moved back to use his finger to rub some kind of ointment on his cut to keep out infection. He smiled to himself when Clark carefully put a bandage over it and closed his eyes. Clark stood up to admire his handiwork, noticing that Lex had fallen asleep.
He smiled and bent over to pick up the little towel he used and noticed it had a faint green glow to it and then it faded away. He brought it closer and noticed that it must have been his imagination. He went and threw it away. He came back and set down on the floor and leaned back against the couch. His head was almost touching Lex, and that made him smile. He deserved a break from chores after having such a horrible day at school. He fell asleep to the sound of Lex snoring softly.
********************************************************
Martha and Jonathan Kent walked into the dark house worried. Not a single light had been on, and Clark had not fixed the fence out by the road. Martha turned on the light in the living room to see in surprise and relief Lex on her couch and Clark in the floor asleep.
She then noticed how worn and dirty Lex looked and that he had a bandage above his left brow. Clark was just sitting with his head back on the couch snoring softly as Lex was running his fingers through his hair.
Jonathan came in to see that he did not need to call the cops and put the phone down. Martha took his hand and said, “Something must have happened, look at Lex.”
Clark opend his eyes and felt something in his hair and realized Lex was twirling his hair around his finger and then he saw his parents. He got to his feet to fast for words to describe and smiled, “Hi mom, dad, have fun?”
The both looked at him, “Oh, yeah, Lex got caught in the trap when he came to visit.”
Martha sighed in relief and Jonathan cursed. It took him all day yesterday to set that trap. Now he was going to have to do the whole thing over again. Damn the Luthors, Damn them to hell!
Lex mumbled in his sleep, “Clark?”
Clark turned around, “Yeah.”
Lex opened his eyes fully and saw the angry glare from a very angry Mr. Kent, “Umm, I need to go home.”
Clark hid his disappointment rather well, “Ok, I’ll give you a ride then.”
“Where’s your car,” Jonathan asked.
“He had his limo drop him off,” Clark told him.
“Be home before midnight Clark,” Martha told him and led her husband from the room.
Lex let out a breath he forgot he was holding and Clark laughed at him, “Come on, I promise to drive the speed limit.”
Lex looked up at him with mock hurt and could not help but laugh when Clark gave him his special goofy grin. It was the kind of grin that would make a girl scream, “Stop it!’
Lex loved it. It was his grin, and no one else’s.
*****************************************************
Lex told Clark to make himself at home while he went to take a quick shower and to put on some clean clothes that were not destroyed by the evils of a farm. The hot water felt good on his naked skin as the steam swirled around him. He forgot about his cut, and gasped when he looked in the mirror. It was gone.
************************************************
Clark had taken his shoes off and was lying on the fur rug in front of the fireplace. He could feel the warmth as he gazed into the dancing flames. He was so enchanted by the flickering and the heat that he did not hear Lex sit down beside him.
Clark nearly fell over in shock when Lex touched his shoulder but then jerked back. Clark looked at him with intense green eyes and gave that goofy grin, “Sorry, you startled me.”
Lex nodded and handed him a big glass of orange juice. Clark took it and drank it away. Lex had almost gotten his glass of scotch to his lips when Clark sat the empty glass down.
“Damn,” Lex thought.
Clark laughed, “Sorry, I love orange juice.”
“I can see that,” Lex said while making a mental note of always having orange juice around for Clark.
The both just sat there and Lex touched his bandage to make sure that it was still there.
“How’s the cut,” Clark asked.
Lex smiled. Clark was always so concerned for him, “It itches, but I’ll be fine.”
Clark smiled and then frowned a little. Lex saw this and then Clark’s face turned serious, “When I cleaned your wound the towel started to glow green. At first I thought you might have fallen against a meteor rock or something, but then it just went away.”
Lex looked at his friend, “I’m fine Clark. No weird powers, no super speed, none of that seeing through walls, or shooting fire from my eyes.”
Clark froze for a moment and then smiled turning back to look at the fire. He really wanted to tell Lex. He wanted to tell Lex everything, even his crush on him. But Lex hated liars and he was not gay. It would destroy their friendship.
Lex sipped his drink and sighed. He really should tell Clark why he was really at the farm. He should tell Clark about the cut being gone. He should just come clean to Clark and tell him how much he really cared about him. Lex took a big drink and snorted at his foolishness. It would destroy their friendship.
Lex then looked up at Clark and asked, “Clark?”
“Yeah,” Clark said.
“Umm, nothing, never mind,” Lex said looking away.
“Oh, ok,’ Clark sighed and turned back around to look at the fire and asked, “Lex?”
Lex looked up hopefully, “Yeah Clark?”
Clark was about to tell him when he heard the clock ding the hour of midnight, “I think I should be going.”
Lex almost dropped his drink from disappointment but realized how stupid he was. Of course Clark was not going to tell him he loved him. Clark was his friend, nothing more. Clark Kent was not gay. He was always pining after the lovely Lana Lang.
Lex stood up with him and Clark told him goodnight and to come visit anytime. Lex said the same. Both of them knew they were going to take each other up on the offer so they could spend more time together.
Lex looked out his window as Clark got behind the wheel of his dad’s truck. One stood and one sat frozen in time. Each said at the exact same time, “God, this Monday sucked.”
