Chapter 1
A six-year-old Leo is walking with his parents down the street, each one holding one of his small hands. They had just left the zoo after spending a fun day looking at the animals.
“Did you have a fun day, Leo?” his mother asks before Leo glances up to see her loving face.
“Yeah, I enjoyed looking at the lions,” he said with excitement in his voice, causing the father to let out a small laugh.
“You did enjoy those lions.”
Leo turns to look at his father. “Yeah, lions are the best.” They then stopped walking, waiting for the sign to turn from a red hand to a white walking person.
“Remember, Leo, to look both ways before crossing,” said Leo’s mother, reminding her son.
“Okay, Mommy,” he said.
The sign changed into the walking man and all three collectively looked both ways before they crossed. They were talking happily about where to go for dinner when a car suddenly came out of nowhere. The car ignored the red light as it sped down the street at 90 miles per hour, leaving the family virtually no time to get out of the way.
“Leo!” both parents shouted before they threw him out of harm’s way. He landed on his back on the sidewalk, and sadly saw as the car hit his parents.
“Mommy! Daddy!” Leo shouted as he made an attempt to run to them both, but a stranger picked him up and carried him away. Leo kept yelling at the person to let him go, but the unfamiliar person refused to let him. Leo then saw a police car stop and two officers got out to check his parents.
“Mommy, Daddy!” Leo kept shouting.
Present
A grown-up Leo’s eyes snap open and he quickly sits up. Sweat covers his body and tears begin to pour out of his eyes as his breathing comes out in labored pants. “Not again,” Leo says to himself as he places his head in his hands.
“Leo, what’s wrong?” Mike asked. Leo’s sudden movements awakened him.
Leo’s breathing was slowly going back to normal. “I had that dream again,” he said through his hands.
Mike sat up and pulled Leo close to him. “It’s alright, Leo. I’m right here with you,” Mike said in soothing voice, then placed a kiss on Leo’s check. Leo put his head on Mike’s chest and then wrapped his arms around him, as if trying to get as much comfort as possible from him. Mike slowly lay down, still holding Leo close to him.
“Mike, when will it stop hurting?” Leo asked into Mike’s chest.
Mike ran his hand through Leo’s hair. “I don’t know, but I’ll be here for you… always,” he answered. He took a look at the clock and to his surprise it was six A.M. Seeing as how sleep was lost to them both, Mike decided to get ready for work, but first thing’s first.
“Hey, how about I make breakfast for us?” Mike suggested, hoping this would help Leo in someway.
Leo grinned. “Sure. Breakfast sounds nice.”
Mike smiles. “Alright. How about we take a shower first, though?”
Leo’s grin grew a little bigger. “Sounds like a plan.” Both got out of bed, Mike leading Leo to the shower.
‘If I put on this happy front, Mike will be happy and that’s all I really want. No need for him or the others to be worried about me.’
When Leo was inside the bathroom, a sting-winger flew past the window. It flew back to the Scorpion Stinger. When it got inside, it told Trakeena what it had seen and heard.
“Excellent work. You shall receive a proper reward for this after the Rangers are defeated.” The stinger nodded and flew away. Trakeena turned to Kegler.
“Kegler, I want you to send a monster to Terra Venture, but I want one that can use the information we got on the Red Ranger against him. Got it?”
“Yes, my queen,” Kegler said as he turned to retrieve a monster.
Trakeena began to laugh. “Soon, I will destroy the Terra Venture and rule this universe.”
