Prelude

LOS ANGELES ON A SUNDAY MORNING (A DRABBLE)

Horizontal, Ralph thought. Lying down. Bed. Pillow.

He blearily opened his eyes; Bill stared back at him. Neither man wore shirts.

"What the--" Ralph exclaimed, lifting the blanket off him. He realized he didn't have pants on.

Bill was too shocked to say anything. The older partner's eyes, expressive as always, spoke volumes.

"What happened?" Ralph whispered.

Bill's voice was rough. "Palmdale. Some greenguy slipped us a mickey. Not our usual greenguys."

Ralph sat back, hands clenched over his eyes as memory returned. "Oh, God," he groaned.

"'Oh, God' is right. Now you see why I HATE going to Palmdale??"
