Sam's cellphone was ringing, it wouldn't stop. He didn't want to answer it but a nagging feeling in his stomach told him he should. Finally Sam answered it, he barely got out the word hello before his brother Dean was practically yelling in his ear.
"Sammy!? Sammy, I need your help man like now." Dean's words pulled Sam from his semi sleep, his mind full of all the nightmares that could have happened to Dean to make him call like this.
"What's wrong? Are you ok? Where are you?" He asked as he started to get out of bed and pull on his jeans.
"I'm freakin' out dude, I'm technically fine and I'm walking up the stairs to your apartment door."
"You're where?"Sam barely had time to get the words out before there was a knock on the door and the line went dead.
He went to the door, shoving his unruly hair out of his eyes and peeked out, yeah it was Dean and he look more freaked out, and stressed than Sam had ever seen him. He opened the door and his big brother plowed his way in and started to pace, babbling about how he never knew and he was so sorry and this sucked outloud, along with many new curse words that Sam wasn't acquainted with.
"OK...whoa Dean. What the hell are you talking about?" Sam grabbed Dean's shoulders and held him in one place. He had a hard time looking Sam in the eye, when he finally did Sam was surprised by the question.
"Sammy, do you remember Amber Night?" Dean chewed on his lip as Sam searched the library of his brain to place the girl's name. "It was when we lived in San Antonio for like three months"
"Oh yeah, I remember her...god Dean that was like when you were sixteen. She was the redhead that dad thought was a bad influence on you, and she could hunt like no girl I had ever seen." Dean smirked as Sam spoke of the girl. "Dad called her wildfire didn't he, I think he actually liked her deep down. Like if one of us had been a daughter that's what she would have turned out like. I remember thinking she was the coolest thing ever because she gave me her old gameboy."
Dean nodded and sighed softly."yeah Sammy that's the girl, she died." Sam's eyes went wide and round. They hadn't had many friends growing up, but that one girlfriend of Dean's stuck out in his mind because she had acted like Sam was her little brother too, not just some annoying brat that she needed to put up with to sleep with his hot brother. Along with that Sam knew deep down inside that Dean had truly loved her, he had actually fought with their dad about leaving San Antonio. Sam knew it had been because of that redhead.
"Jesus, fuck Dean when did this happen." Sam sat on the bed and wondered why his brother kept looking out the window.
"Like 9 years ago."Dean answered distractedly. Sam looked at him, wearing his confused puppy face.
"9 years ago? Then why the hell are you bringing it up now?" He asked a bit annoyed.
"Cause Sammy her grandparents died two weeks ago, remember they were raising her? Do you remember getting a message from a lawyer on your cell about two weeks ago?" Sam nodded, still not sure what this was about. "That lawyer was looking for me. She was pregnant when we left Sam.." Shock had definitely set in with the younger Winchester, but before Sam could say anything Dean continued. "Amber died six months after she gave birth to the baby, six months exactly Sammy, in a fire that started in the baby's room. There were rumours that her grandfather saw her on the ceiling, bleeding but he only had time to save the baby." By the time Dean was finished, tears were tracking down his cheeks. Sam was stunned into silence, he knew very well what had happened to Amber, the demon had come for Dean's child.
As silence filled the room, Dean once again stared out the window, looking down at his car. Inside his car was the only other person that he loved as much as Sam, but this person, unlike Sam wanted nothing to do with him.
