The Infirmary was the usual busy place it always was. Not a single bed in the place was empty. And not a single member of the medical personnel had any time to sit down to relax. The annual base’s personnel medical check-up always caused chaos and havoc in the infirmary.
On one of the beds, Major Samantha Carter sat. Her blond hair looking as perfect as ever as she surveyed the commotion with her hazel coloured eyes. Idly reaching up to scratch at an itch she had on her neck. Although others were having routine medical check-ups, Sam was in there for a pre-mission check. Just as she was wondering how much longer it would take, a voice sounded behind her.
“Okay Sam, your blood work-up seems clean, and I can’t find anything else wrong with you.” Janet smiled at the taller woman as she stepped into her field of vision. “You’re good to go.”
When Sam got up to leave, Janet put a hand on her arm. “Oh. Before I forget, Cassie did an art project for school… she wants to show you when you get back, if you can manage it?”
Sam beamed at the idea. “Of course! I’ll drop by as soon as I can, wouldn’t miss it for the world.” Giving her friend a quick smile, Sam went out and went to the women’s locker room to get changed for the mission, leaving Janet feeling slightly punch-drunk from the smile.
Shaking her head slightly to clear it, Janet went into her office to get some files on other patients, trying to ignore the analytical part of her mind which was now analysing her physical reactions.
“Dr. Frasier?” One of her nurses asked from the door. “We could use your help out here.”
Janet looked up, thankful for the distraction. “Okay, Kelly, I’m coming.” Getting up, she left her office and moved into the organised chaos of her job, putting Sam out of her mind, for the time being at least.
~*~
In the women’s locker room, Sam was smiling to herself as she got changed, pulling the BDU jacket on, she couldn’t help but think of the look in the good Doctor’s eyes when Sam had smiled at her.
The brief, subtle dilation of her eyes, the noticeable quickening of her breathing, and the almost unnoticeable blush as her face flushed. Sam loved bringing those things out in people, but she had never once thought that she would cause them in a woman, let alone her best friend. Yet, the evidence was right in front her, or rather, had been right in front of her.
Even without having her doctorate in medicine, she could diagnose the causes of those physical reactions and the knowledge of it caused her to shiver with excitement. Or was that perhaps the cold as she changed into clean combat trousers?
Whatever it was, Sam knew that she had to make the good doctor accept the feelings she had, in whatever way Sam could think of, and she could think of a lot of ways, most of them mutually pleasant.
Humming softly to herself as she made her way to the ‘Gate room, Sam thought over the past few years she’d known Janet, wondering just where or when she herself had started to care for the brunette woman. However, try as she might, Sam could not think of a moment when it had begun, or even a time before it had begun, which made her consider only one possibility: she had felt that way all along.
Entering the Gate room, she saw that the rest of the team was already geared up and ready – even Daniel, who was notorious for being late. The colonel checked his watch, and then back at her, without making a single comment.
When the Stargate opened, with it’s usual rumbling and ‘chunks’ as Chevrons locked into place before the field of plasma boiled outward then settled back into the water-like shimmering that was the event horizon. The team headed through, with Jack in front, Daniel and Teal’c behind him, and Sam brought up the rear.
One small gate trip later, the team was standing in a clearing, surrounded by a wood about 100 metres off. “All clear, Sir.” Carter called, after surveying the area.
Nodding, O’Neill made a ‘move out’ gesture with his hand, and the team followed him down what appeared to be a dusty trail. The tree line stayed parallel to it all the way, at a distance of about twenty paces, Sam guessed.
Following the colonel, she let part of her mind wonder, while still keeping on eye on their surroundings. She thought of Janet, and how she was going to resolve the tension that she knew had built up between them, and still kept coming back to the same solutions that she had had before.
Her thoughts were disturbed when she felt a hand on her shoulder, and jumped slightly, before realising who it was. “God! Daniel… you scared the life out of me.”
Smiling his usual smile as he shrugged. “Sorry… you seemed to be in your own little world. I wondered what sort of people we were going to meet on this trip.”
Sam smiled to him in return. “I don’t know, although I love finding out… that brief moment between meeting someone and finding out who they are… it’s really exciting.”
The linguist nodded. “Yeah, I agree… hopefully they’ll be friendly people, because we seem to meet more of the other sort.”
Sam grinned. “Oh, I don’t know, those folks on P3X-595 had some interesting drinks, even if they were jerks.”
Nodding again, Daniel smiled at her. “So, wager on what we’ll find? Jack says trees, Teal’c has guessed, and I quote ‘probably nothing of strategic value, Daniel Jackson.’ I’m saying a nice and almost extinct race of people that we can learn tons of information from, how about you?”
Carter shrugged. “I don’t know… Depends on the wager.”
From up ahead, Jack called back to them. “”Getting it off with the next alien we meet.”
Sam blushed a deep red and gaped at the three guys. “What!?”
Daniel chuckled. “Whoever looses has to get it off with the next alien, be it male, female, or something else entirely.”
Swallowing hard, Swam tried to figure out what to do. “Well… I er… um… guess I could go along with that.” She still sounded uncertain, though.
Daniel put an arm around her shoulders. “Don’t worry if you’re not keen on it.” He gave her a small hug before jogging to catch up with Jack and Teal‘c, who had moved a little way ahead.
Sighing to herself, Sam thought it over, and the more she thought about it, the more she liked the idea, after all, it wasn’t everyday you faced the possibility of having to try and seduce and alien, right?
Quickening her pace, she caught up with the others. “Weather anomalies.” She said, as her answer.
Jack made a comment under his breath, which sounded suspiciously like “scientists”, and Daniel simply grinned at her.
After a few hours of walking later, Jack raised his hand and they all stopped, Daniel falling to the group, panting heavily. “Okay, if we’re going for long walks again, let me know in advance so that I can call in sick.”
Sam smiled down at him. “Getting too rough for you, Daniel?” A small look of concern flashed over her features.
He nodded. “I’m fine; just… let me rest for a bit.”
Jack surveyed the area. “Yeah okay, this is as good a place as any. Let’s get into the tree line and we can have a break.”
Helping Daniel to his feet, Sam moved into the tree line, which was dense enough to cover them from any hostile people, but not too dense to close them in. Settling down herself beside a large tree, Sam let her head rest back against it, sighing softly to herself.
Looking up, Sam saw that what she could see of the between the canopy of tree branches and leaves had begun to move into a deeper shade of blue. “Colonel, looks like it won’t belong until night comes.”
Looking up, Jack nodded. “Yeah, probably have a few hours left. Okay, we’ll camp here for tonight, and finish up tomorrow.”
~*~
With four small-ish tents set up in a clearing, Sam felt like a little girl again, going on a camping trip. She always did, whenever they set up the tents. It was her favourite thing in the world, to go camping, just her and nature.
Spread out on the floor outside her tent, she was staring up at the cloudless sky, before it got too cold to venture inside for the warmth of the thermal blankets. The clear sky allowed for what could have been a perfect night’s star-gazing. But Sam wasn’t interested in the constellations; she was thinking about one single star in particular, and more precisely the third planet in orbit around it.
Sighing softly to herself, she wondered what Janet was doing, and wondered if the woman was thinking bout her, although didn’t put a lot of faith in that particular notion.
Just as she was about to get up and crawl into her tent, Sam heard a twig snap, fairly close to her, and then saw the outline of someone sit down a few paces off. “Hey Sam.”
Sam gave him a big smile. “Hey Daniel, I figured you’d be sleeping, after that long walk today.” Patting the ground next to her, she indicated for him to join her.
Daniel led down next to her, and snuggled close to the heat. “Whoa… getting cold.” He said as he buried his head against her shoulder.
Sam didn’t complain, she enjoyed the closeness, and quite frankly, didn’t want to be alone. “Daniel?” She asked softly, not wanting to spoil what felt like a nice moment.
Looking up, he looked at her with a small frown in his forehead. “Yes?”
“Could… ” Sam swallowed hard. “Could you stay with me tonight, please? As you said, it’s cold, and I… well… I don’t want to be alone tonight, for some reason.”
Daniel smiled at her, that much she could tell from the starlight, and he gently kissed her forehead. “Sure, we can keep each other company.” Helping her into her tent, Daniel curled himself to her body, and went so far as to drape an arm over her. “This okay?”
Sam nodded eagerly. “Yeah! I like this, very nice.” She snuggled back against his warm presence, and felt happy.
It was a few minutes during which they listened to the native wildlife outside, when Daniel broke the silence. “Sam? Um… can I ask you something?”
Sam shifted in her tent, so she could look at him. “Sure, what is it?”
“Well… ” He sighed softly and went on. “We’ve been colleagues for awhile now, and um… I was wondering if you’d er… ”
Blinking in surprise, Sam interrupted him. “Are you asking me out?”
Daniel frowned at her. “Uh, no, actually, what I was going to say was um… never mind.” His voice had trailed off by the time he had finished.
Sam smiled at him, a kind, and friendly smile. “Daniel, whatever it is, just tell me. We’re friends, so you can tell me, please.”
He looked straight into her eyes. “Okay. What it was, was that… since Shau’ri… I haven’t um… that is to say that I’ve never… ” Again he trailed off, words seeming to fail him.
Sam tried to understand him. “You mean… dated? Um… sex?” When he looked away, she knew she had it. “Okay, so you’ve not had sex since Shau’ri, what does… ?” Realisation had come to her. “Are you asking me… ?”
He gave the smallest of nods, just before getting up to leave. “I’m sorry, I knew it was a bad idea, I shouldn’t have done that, and I’ll just leave.”
Sam stop him with a hand on his arm. “Daniel, wait. Let me get this straight. Are you asking me to have sex with you?”
She could see the blush, even with the little light there was. “Yes.” Came the timid response.
Grinning, Sam pulled Daniel back, so he was led down. “And you thought I’d turn down a chance to get laid by a geek?”
Surprise flooded his expression. “You… want to?”
Nodding, Sam gave him a wicked grin. Climbing on top of him, Sam began kissing him softly as she ground her hips against his. “Haven’t had any in along time, Daniel. Be prepared for the night of your life… ”

Even on an alien planet, there seemed to be birds which didn’t know what a decent time of day was, Sam thought as she slowly woke up, then gasped loudly. A soft, wet tongue was running up and down her vagina like she had never felt before. “D… D… Daniel?” She croaked, her mind trying to stay in control of her faculties.
The magical tongue stopped, but only for him to answer. “Morning, just wanted to reward you for last night… ” Before she could say anything, he went back to licking her body.
Moaning, trying to keep things quiet, Sam could think of only one thing: Oh, God. I hope Janet is this good… Holy Hannah! When his tongue hit her clit, she bit hard on her bottom lip to stifle the scream.
Panting heavily, Sam finally came down from her high. “Whoa… Daniel, where did you learn skills like that?”
Snuggling next to her, Daniel simply grinned. “Oxford was known for its… rough… parties.”
Sam chuckled softly. “Ah, so you were the God of Oral Sex at Oxford University? Lucky college girls.”
She saw his blush and kissed his check softly. “Thank you, it was great. But I’m sure we should probably get up, the colonel could well want to be moving sometime before mid-day.”
They dressed in silence, and Sam poked her head out of the tent, and looked around. The clearing was quiet and empty, save for the bird-song, and tents set up. Stepping out, she stretching some kinks out of her back.
“Carter! Good, you’re up. Wanted your opinion on something…” Jack stopped the moment he saw Daniel emerging from her tent, and quirked an eyebrow at the both of them, but didn’t say a word.
Putting on her best professional military expression, Sam walked over to the colonel. “You wanted me, sir?”
Nodding, Jack nodded behind him. “Wanted you to have a look at something. Teal’c’s still there now, giving it his full attention.”
Sam smiled brightly. “Right away, Sir.” Holding the P90 in a relaxed position, she wondered in the direction that the colonel had given her.
It wasn’t long – barely a few minutes of walking – Sam came to what he had obviously meant. A large area of trees had been destroyed. Not taken away, for there was still debris strewn all over the ground.
Taking a closer look at one tree in particular, Sam noticed no visible signs of weapons fire, or anything artificial to explain what had happened.
Shortly after her own arrival there, she saw Jack and Daniel emerge form the direction of the camp. “It’s a mystery, Sir. I can’t see any noticeable cause for it. It’s like they were simply ripped from the ground. And if your next question is ‘how’ then my answer is that I don’t know what could have caused it.”
Just as she finished, storm clouds rolled in from nowhere, it was as if the sky had heard her confession and provided the answer. Large, dark, looming clouds filled the sky from horizon to horizon. Thunder boomed and there were sporadic flashes of lightening.
A shout came from the north, and the two of them turned as one to see Daniel and Teal’c running towards them. Daniel was making frantic ‘move it’ gestures, and the next second they saw why.
Over the tree line, they saw one of the biggest tornados Sam could think of. “Colonel, I think we’ve found the cause of the destruction to the trees.”
“That’s good, Carter. Now MOVE!”
Sam didn’t need telling twice, she took off, away from the twister – thankfully that also happened to be the same direction that the Stargate was in.
Wind whipped at them from three different directions at once as they ran, trying to keep ahead of the deadly tunnel of nature. When they finally came to the clearing where the Gate was sat, the tornado had gotton dangerously close.
Sam ran up to the DHD and began dialling the Earth address; the others had taken refuge from the assaulting elements. Before she could finish, the Stargate activated by itself. “Sir!” She looked over at the colonel, hoping he’d hear. “Incoming wormhole!”
She crouched behind the DHD as a large tree came hurtling over head, then the radio crackled to life. “SG-1, this is Hammond, come in. Over.”
Cursing silently to herself, Sam clicked her radio. “General! We were just about to dial in. We have a large tornado bearing down on us!” Before she could hear a response, a large piece of debris collided with her, sending her flying. Towards the open gate.
The last thought in her mind, before Sam was thrown by the wind through the event horizon of the incoming wormhole was a simple one. I love you, Janet.
Jack stared with shock as he watched Carter sail through the air and enter the wormhole, supposedly in the wrong direction, if all those egg-heads could be believed, and he hoped with everything that they were for once.
Running to the DHD, Jack dialled Earth himself, and pressed the centre button, causing the field of plasma to explode outwards then settle down. Once he’d sent his IDC code through, he led the team back to Earth, where he was praying he’d see Carter, alive and well… alive.
~*~
The SGC appeared just as it had when they left, calm, relatively quiet, if one can ignore the blaring sirens. Although, one thing that Jack did notice as he surveyed the room was the lack of Carter’s presence, but then, if she had come through the wormhole at that speed, she was probably in the infirmary.
Major General George Hammond walked through the door and into the room. “SG-1, where’s Major Carter?”
Jack expression went from bad to worse. “What? She didn’t come through?”
The General shook his head. “No, we heard her message over the radio, shut down the gate, and then you three came through.”
Daniel took that cue to say something. “Um, General. Sam got caught in a particularly bad wind gust, and she was thrown through the wormhole when it was still open form Earth.”
“What!?” Hammond looked from Jack to Daniel and back again, hoping for an explanation. “What does that mean?”
“Major Carter would have perished the moment she entered the event horizon, General.” Teal’c spoke with the typical bluntness that could be only his.
Jack blinked at him. “No. No, she can’t be. No…” He looked around, hoping that someone would shout ‘April Fools’, or some other stupid cliché like that, and it would all be a joke. Only no-one did, his looks were met with either sadness or a grim assuredness of the truth…
TBC.
