It had been 6 months since Bo and Luke had told their Uncle
Jesse and cousin Daisy about their relationship. Things had been a little
awkward at first, Jesse and Daisy both needing time to adjust to the revelation.
Once they had realized that the boys truly loved each other and that neither had
been forced or sweet talked into something they didn't want they began to relax.
As time passed and they saw the depth of the love between Bo and Luke both Jesse
and Daisy knew they would defend Bo and Luke's right to be together against
anyone.

On this fine spring day with Daisy at work and Uncle Jesse
plowing the south 40 the boys had the house to themselves. They were of course
taking advantage of this, not knowing that trouble was just around the corner.
When Cooter Davenport, a close friend of the Duke family and the owner of the
only garage in Hazzard pulled up to the Duke farmhouse he was surprised when
nobody came out to greet him. He could see Daisy's jeep was gone, so he knew she
wasn't home and the tractor was missing so Jesse was probably in the fields.
What worried him was that even though both the General Lee and Jesse's old
pick-up was there, neither Bo or Luke was anywhere to be seen. Knowing the boys'
penchant for finding trouble, he thought it best if he went into the house
quietly and unannounced, what he saw as he entered the living room shocked him
to the core. There were the boys on the couch, Luke had Bo pinned down and was
kissing him, at first Cooter couldn't move so great was his shock. Suddenly his
shock left and he was filled with a cold anger, how dare Luke attack Bo like
this, had he gone crazy. Cooter quickly closed the distance to the couch, he
jerked Luke off of Bo and punched him in the jaw, which wouldn't have been all
that bad, except when Luke fell he hit his head on the end table knocking him
out. "Cooter what the hell are ya doing?" Bo yelled at his friend, ready to
punch Cooter he might have, had he not at that moment seen Luke laying on the
floor bleeding and unconcious. "Luke!" Bo cried out in fear as he rushed to his
lover's side, carefully turning Luke over he saw the cut on his forehead where
he had hit it on his way down. "Cooter bring me a towel, we got to get this
bleeding stopped," Bo all but yelled. Cooter was completely confused by now, but
he did as Bo asked and went to get a towel, when he returned he knelt down
beside Bo. Placing a hand on Bo's shoulder Cooter started to talk, "Bo ya want
to tell me what's going on here? I walk in to find Luke attacking you and now
you seem to be upset that I stopped him, so what's up buddyroo?" Bo just shook
his head, he could hardly believe what he was hearing, "Cooter, Luke wasn't
attacking me ain't you never seen anyone making out before?" Once again Cooter
froze in shock for a moment when he could talk he wasn't quite sure what to say
"well sure......I mean.....of course I have but not two fellas, and since when
are you two boys gay."

"Cooter now's not really the time to explain, I
think we better get Luke to the hospital. This cut looks like it needs stitches
and I don't like it that he ain't woke up yet, so could we talk
later?"

"Sure buddy we'll talk later let's get Luke in my truck you ain't
in no shape to be driving." said Cooter noticing for the first time how pale Bo
was and that his hands were shaking.

When they arrived at the hospital
Luke was taken back to an exam room and Cooter and Bo were directed to the
waiting room. After awhile Cooter could no longer control his curiosity, "Bo
what's going on with you and Luke? When did this start? Heck I didn't even know
either of you boys was into men."

"Cooter it's not exactly like that, I
mean Luke is gay, he found that out in the Marines, me though. Well I really
can't imagine being with anybody else, I mean I ain't never been attracted to
any other man, not sure I could be. But if you got to put a label I guess I'd be
bi- since I am still attracted to women, of course I ain't gonna be unfaithful
to Luke, I love him too much for that. We been together almost a year, after
Diane left Luke was real supportive of me and after a couple months I fell in
love, after we finally talked about it I found out Luke felt the same way. Only
difference is he had felt that way longer."
Cooter had so many questions he
wasn't quite sure which to start with. Knowing he needed to start somewhere he
began "So um do Jesse and Daisy know?"

"Yeah we told them about 6 months
ago, neither one of us liked the idea of lying to them and we didn't want to
have to keep how we felt hidden from our family."

"What about me? Were
you ever gonna tell me? I'm practically family, ain't I?" Cooter asked angrilly.
Before Bo could respond Dr. Appleby stepped into the waiting room. "Bo do Jesse
and Daisy know about Luke's accident yet?" At this question Bo became even more
worried "Is he that bad off Doc? He's gonna be okay ain't he?" Hearing the fear
in Bo's voice the Dr. rushed to calm him "He should be fine, he needed a few
stitches for the cut on his head, but I am a little concerned that he hasn't
woke up yet. Now I'm hopeful he will eventually wake up, but I do think you
should call Jesse and Daisy, you obviously don't need to deal with this by
yourself."

"Could I see Luke Doc? After I call home that is. Maybe if I'm
talking to him he'd wake up?" The Dr. was concerned with how Bo would handle
seeing Luke in a hospital bed, but then again it could help Luke, for that
matter it might help Bo too, if he could see Luke. "Yes, you can sit with him,
after you call Jesse. Why don't you go call Jesse and then we need to talk
before you go see Luke okay?" Bo nodded, he turned to ask Cooter if they could
talk later, only to discover that Cooter had already left. After calling Jesse
and getting no answer he tried Daisy at the Boar's nest. "Boar's nest" Daisy
said when she answered the phone, "is somebody there?" Bo tried to answer, but
found he couldn't talk around the lump in his throat, the Dr. saw this and
gently took the phone, "there's been an accident involving Luke."

"Oh no,
what happened? Is he hurt bad? Where's Bo and Uncle Jesse? Why ain't they callin
me?"

The Dr. sighed, "Daisy, Bo is right here he's just too upset to
talk. Luke fell and hit his head, the injury isn't that bad, but he hasn't woke
up yet, which is why Bo's upset. As for Jesse, Bo tried the house but got no
answer, do you think you could find him and bring him down here with
you?"

"Of course Doc, he's probably still out plowing the south 40. Will
you lookout....?"

"Yes, I'll lookout for Bo as well as Luke till ya'll
get here." the Dr. interrupted, knowing that's what she was about to ask. After
hanging up, he made Bo sit down in a nearby chair, taking a seat himself he
began to prepare Bo for what to expect when he saw Luke. "Now Bo, before I let
you see Luke there's a couple of things you need to know. First of all Luke is
hooked up to an I.V. it's just a saline solution and it's also there to make
things easier if we need to give any medications. Also he is hooked up to a
heart monitor and an EKG which monitors his brainwaves, now don't get upset
about that, all that is just a precaution. With Luke being unconscious, he can't
very well tell us if he's in pain and the monitors will help us know if a
problem starts, though I don't expect anything to happen. I just want you to
know what you'll see when you go in there so it doesn't come as a shock, so if
you're ready I'll take you to see Luke, okay?" Bo nodded as he stood up and
followed the Dr. to the room where Luke had been taken. Even though the Dr. had
warned him, it was still upsetting to see Luke laying in a hospital bed, he
wasn't use to seeing Luke looking so helpless. Bo didn't know if he could do
this, Luke was the strong one, how was he going to help Luke, could he help him.
Taking a deep breath Bo approached the bed, he knew he'd have to find a way to
be strong. He had to for Luke's sake, God it hurt to see his lover laying there
hurt because of him, hurt because Cooter had thought Luke was attacking Bo.
Taking Luke's hand in his as he took a seat next to the bed he began to speak,
"Luke please wake up...." Seeing that Bo was going to be okay the Dr. quietly
left the room. Bo didn't even notice when the Dr. left, his focus being
completely on Luke, "please, love you have to be okay, I can't believe this
happened. You know Cooter didn't know what was happening, he was trying to
protect me. Please, God, Luke you have to wake up, you have to get better, I
can't live without you, please don't leave me love."

Meanwhile Cooter had
returned to his own farm when he left the hospital reeling from the news that Bo
and Luke were a couple. How could I have been so wrong? he asked himself. If I
had known before, things might have been a lot different. Cooter just couldn't
believe this, Bo and Luke Duke were a couple, lovers, it wasn't fair. He had
wanted Bo for years but had never made a move figuring it would cost him a
friendship. "Aw hell, who are you trying to kid Cooter Davenport, ain't no way
Bo Duke was ever gonna be with you anyway. Great now I'm talking to myself."
Cooter knew he was gonna have to get past his jealousy, not at all sure how to
do that he dug out some shine and began drinking. The more he drank, the angrier
he became, how dare Luke steal his chance with Bo. Then they keep it a secret,
he thought they were all friends. Cooter had always felt like a member of the
Duke family, now he knew better, could see they obviously didn't feel the same
way. But it was Bo's betrayal that hurt the most, how could he keep this a
secret from him, he had loved Bo for so long, why didn't Bo see that. The more
Cooter drank that more confused his thoughts became, until even he wasn't sure
if he was angry that he hadn't been told, or angry because Luke had what he
wanted, what he had wanted since Bo was 16.

Jesse and Daisy arrived at
the hospital an hour after Daisy had received the news. The receptioninst at the
front desk informed them Luke was in room 212 and pointed them in the right
direction. When they entered the room, Bo was sitting beside Luke's bed with his
head laying on Luke's thigh where he had fallen asleep. They hated to wake him,
but knew if he kept sleeping in that position he would end up very stiff and
sore, gently shaking Bo's arm Jesse woke him up. It saddened him to see the
tears streaking Bo's face and the fear that was there when he opened his eyes.
"Bo, son you need to get up before you get a crick in your neck." Looking at
Luke he asked "Has there been any change?"

"No, Uncle Jesse, I've been
talking to him, I'm really worried about him, what if he don't ever wake
up?"

"Now Bo it ain't been that long, Luke's strong he'll be okay, you
just got to have faith." Uncle Jesse said, gently squeezing Bo's shoulder. Bo
nodded his head as he once again took Luke's hand in his "I know Uncle Jesse,
guess I just ain't used to having Luke scare me. Heck ya'll know that's my job
to get people scared and worried." Leaning forward he bagan to quietly speak to
Luke again, "Luke, please love, you've been asleep long enough, it's time for
you to wake up. I'm sorry for all the times I've worried you, don't see how
you've stood it,.....sitting here, not knowing when you'll wake up is one of the
hardest things I've ever done. .........Luke please wake up, I need you please."
Bo had to stop speaking the lump in his throat once again becoming too difficult
to speak around. Thirty minutes late Luke finally began to stir. When he opened
his eyes the first thing he saw was Bo sitting beside the bed his face streaked
with tears, reaching up he brushed at the tears. "Bo, please don't cry, I'm
okay. Are you okay, he didn't hurt you did he?" Bo shook his head, "No love he
didn't touch me, you're the only one who got hurt."

"What exactly
happened, who are you boys taling about? Why didn't you tell me, I thought this
was an accident." Uncle Jesse practically growled. Bo gave his Uncle a sheepish
look, "Sorry guess I was so worried about Luke I forgot you and Daisy didn't
know what happened. Cooter came by earlier and well me and Luke was on the couch
and from what he said Cooter thought I was being attacked, so he jerked Luke up
and hit him. Well when he fell, he hit his head on the end table, Cooter helped
me get him to the hospital. I think he felt bad once he knew what a mistake he
had made." Looking at Luke once again Bo told him they were gonna need to talk
to Cooter. "I think he's upset cause we didn't tell him, we probably should have
a talk with him as soon as you're up to it. He needs to know it wasn't cause we
didn't trust him, I just hope he'll understand and that we can all still be
friends."

"Me too Bo, but if he has a problem with us being together,
he's history. I'd rather give up every friendship I've ever had than give you
up." Luke told Bo as he carressed the back of his hand. "I agree completely
Luke, if I ever had to choose between you and anybody else, you win no
contest.

Unknown to the Duke's, Cooter had returned to the hospital and
heard everything from where he stood just outside the door. As he listened to
them each declare their devotion to the other he saw red. Making a quick
decision Cooter returned to his home and began his preparations for his coming
confrontation with Bo and Luke. He would make them pay for deceiving him. The
next morning when Bo and Luke were on their way home, Cooter drove up behind
them and began honking his horn to get their attention. Bo looked at Luke
"Wonder what Cooter wants?" Luke just smiled, "One way to find out, let's pull
over." When they pulled over, Cooter came up to the General and asked the boys
to come over to his house so they could clear the air. "Could we do this later
Coot, Luke just got out of the hospital, I think I should just get him home." Bo
asked him. "I know Bo, but well ya'll I just didn't want to let this sit and
fester, please could we just talk for a little while. We could just talk here,
but I thought maybe ya'll would want privacy, all things considered." Bo turned
to Luke when he felt his hand on his are "Bo, I'm okay really, Cooter's right we
really do need to talk the longer we wait the more hard feelings there's gonna
be."

"Are ya sure you're up to it Luke?" At Luke's nod Bo turned back to
Cooter, "Okay Cooter, we'll follow you to your place, but if I think Luke's
starting to get too tired then we'll have to go on home. I don't want him to end
up back in the hospital." Cooter nodded in agreement "Allright Bo, guess I can't
blame you for being worried, so let's go the sooner we get there the sooner Luke
can rest."

Soon they arrived at Cooter's and went inside, accepting
Cooter's offer of coffee they failed to notice the calculating look on Cooter's
face. It wasn't long before both men were passed out as a result of the
knock-out drug Cooter had slipped into their coffee, knowing they wouldn't be
out long Cooter quickly went to work, he took Luke into the bedroom chaining him
to the wall, after having first removed his shirt. Returning to the kitchen
Cooter carried Bo into the bedroom as well, not wanting Bo to wake up before he
was ready he quickly stripped Bo's clothes from his unresisting body, he then
chained the boy's wrists and ankles to the corners of the bed. Standing back to
admire the view he waited for the boys to wake up, Bo was the first to awaken.
Fear filled him when he realized he was chained face down on a bed, looking
around as best he could he spotted Luke, his fear increased even more. What was
going on here, for that matter where was here at? As he began to call Luke's
name his voice filled with worry Cooter stepped into his line of sight, "Hello
Bo, I'm sure glad you could join us." Bo looked at Cooter in shock "Cooter what
are ya doin? I thought we were friends, and what did you do to Luke? Why ain't
he woke up?" Cooter glanced over his shoulder at where Luke sat "Oh don't worry
none about ole Luke, he'll wake up soon, guess maybe that head injury made the
drugs knock him out a little harder. I guess I could see about waking him up."
Afraid of what Cooter might do to wake Luke up Bo tried to stop him, "No, that's
okay, why don't you just let him sleep." but Cooter ignored him and went on over
to Luke, "Cooter please don't hurt him, " Bo begged. Cooter glanced back at Bo
and smiled "Oh don't worry none I ain't gonna hurt him.......yet." So saying he
then began to lightly slap Luke's face in an effort to wake him, when Luke woke
up he too reacted to their predicament with shock and fear. "Cooter?
What?.....Why?....." then Cooter moved allowing Luke to see past him, "BO!" he
screamed. "What have you done Cooter? How could you hurt Bo like
that?"

"Oh hush up I ain't hurt him, I was waitin for you to wake up and
join the party, and now that you have we can start. Now both of you asked why
I'm doin this so guess that's as good a place to start as any. When I found out
you two was together and you hadn't told me, I was hurt. See I always thought of
myself as a part of your family, then I find out you don't trust me with your
secrets." As he spoke Cooter was moving to a box he had placed at the end of the
bed, from which he now extracted a cattle prod. "I figured out I was just your
friend when ya needed something, like that car of yourns fixed," and he pressed
the cattle prod against Luke's side and flicked the switch. As Luke cried out
from the pain, Bo was screaming at Cooter "No, leave him be, don't hurt him,
please." Cooter ignored him, as though he had never spoken, "but mostly I was
mad and jealous, you took what I wanted. I've wanted Bo since he was 16, I just
never figured he'd go for a man so I settled for friendship. Well no more, I
deserve happiness too and I know I can make him happier than you can. Today is
the day I prove that to both of you, after I punish the two of you, of course."
All the while he spoke Cooter was pressing the cattle prod up and down Luke's
body, completely enjoying the sounds of his screams. Finally he decided that
Luke had been punished enough, at least for now.

He now turned his
attention to Bo, he again went to the box this time removing a whip. "Well,
well, well, looks like it's time for you to take your punishment Bo." Expecting
to hear Bo beg for mercy, Cooter was surprised and pleased to hear Luke instead,
"Please Cooter don't do this. Ya don't want to hurt Bo, you said you've wanted
him for a long time, I know you care for Bo, please Cooter if you care for him
at all please don't hurt him, he don't deserve this." Hearing this Cooter turned
to Luke and yelled "Care for him, do I care for him? I love him and soon I'm
gonna show him how much but first he has to be punished. He lied to me, kept
secrets and didn't even notice my love for him." With these words Cooter began
to hit Bo with the whip, until he was screaming in pain and begging for him to
stop. By the time he had finished Cooter was as hard as he had ever been, he
knew the time had come. It was time to show Bo how much better it would be with
him instead of Luke. Cooter climbed on the bed between Bo's legs, raising the
boy's hips slightly he quickly lubed himself and in one strong thrust he entered
Bo. As he pounded himself in and out he ignored Bo's screams of pain, his pleas
for mercy, it didn't take long for Cooter to reach climax, as he came, Cooter
jerked awake with a scream. As he became fully awake, Cooter began to remember
the previous days events. He remembered hitting Luke and helping Bo get him to
the hospital, he also remembered returning to the hospital later in the day only
to overhear the boys' declarations of love and devotion. He remembered coming
back home and drinking more shine, becoming angrier all the time, attaching
chains to the bed and wall, suddenly he bolted to the bathroom where he was
violently ill.

"Oh God, how could I even think of doing somethin like
that?" Cooter asked himself, he sure was grateful the boys hadn't been where he
could get them last night. It scared him to think what he might have done, if he
had been able to get Bo and Luke to his house last night. One thing was sure,
after this no more shine for Cooter Davenport, as soon as he was dressed dumping
what was left of his shine was the first thing he would do. Once he was cleaned
up he figured he'd go see the boys, he sure didn't want to let his anger and
hurt feelings sit. Only thing he didn't think he'd tell them about was his
feelings for Bo, it wasn't Bo's fault or Luke's either for that matter that he
had never told Bo how he felt. Besides now that the shine weren't talking he
knew Bo probably wouldn't have ever been interested in him anyway, and before Bo
was attracted to Luke, telling him might very well have cost him two
friendships. As he cleaned up and kept thinking about it he knew he would keep
his love a secret, but he needed to talk about his hurt feelings and anger at
being kept in the dark. Once he was ready Cooter called the hospital not knowing
if Luke was still there or not, when they told him Luke had been released he
thanked them and hung up. Knowing he needed to move before he lost his nerve
Cooter went to his truck and headed off to the Duke farm.

When he got to
the farm, Cooter for the first time ever wasn't sure if he should knock or just
go on in, before he could decide the door opened and Jesse ws inviting him in.
Cooter looked around the room nervously fiddling with his hat held tight in his
hands. "Bo, Luke I came here to say sorry and I hope we can still be
friends."

"Cooter why don't ya have a seat so you boys can talk," Jesse
invited and then looking at Bo and Luke he said, "boys you give Cooter a chance
to explain, ya'll have been friends too long to throw it away now, sides Cooter
here is practically family, mind what I say now." Jesse then left the house
taking Daisy with him.

At first no one said anything, "Cooter.....",
"Bo, Luke......", "
Cooter...." they all began at once, stopping almost as
one. "Bo why don't you start," Cooter suggested.

"Allright, I just want
to know why you hit Luke like you did? I know you thought he was hurting me, I
just don't understand how you could think that."

"You're right Bo,"
Cooter replied, "I should've known better, heck I probably did know better deep
down inside. I was so shocked that I reacted before I had time to think. I am
sorry, I never meant to hurt Luke or cause you any worry Bo, that's the last
thing I'd ever want. I'm real ashamed of the way I acted and I hope we can get
past it." This time it was Luke who spoke "Cooter I ain't really mad at you for
hitting me, I'm actually kinda grateful. What I mean is it's nice to know you'd
be willing to protect Bo if he needed it, even if it was from his family, not
that he'll ever need protection from any of us, but still it is a comfort to
know he'd have help if he needed it. What I'm wondering is why you didn't come
see me at the hospital last night."

"Well Luke actually I did but, well
I'd been drinking and when I heard ya'll talkin about what happened I got mad
and left. I.....well I felt kinda hurt and left out, like Jesse said I'm
practically family, leastways I always thought I was, so I was mad and hurt that
you didn't tell me. Why didn't you trust me?'

"Cooter, buddy it wasn't
that Luke and me didn't trust you. It was fear that kept us from telling you, we
were afraid you would be uncomfortable about it and we'd lose your friendship.
But you should know we were still talking about telling you, just hadn't worked
up the nerve yet, and Coot we're both real sorry you found out the way you did.
We sure never meant to hurt you, you are our best friend and well heck Cooter
you are family, I'm sorry if we made you feel like you weren't. Forgive
us?"

Hearing the sincerity in Bo's voice and seeing it in two sets of
blue eyes Cooter felt the hurt and anger leaving. "Of cours I forgive you, ya'll
boys are my best friends too, my family. Just one thing ya ain't got no more
secrets ya ain't told me have ya?" Cooter asked laughing. Both Bo and Luke
replied, laughing themselves, "No, no other secrets, " Bo gave Cooter a
brotherly hug and said, "Thank you for your friendship." He stepped back and
Cooter quickly found himself being hugged by Luke "What he said buddy. So how
about staying for lunch, I think Daisy's making fried chicken."

"Shoot a
man'd be a fool to turn that down and I sure ain't no fool, so guess I'm
staying." The three men then went outside to find Daisy and Uncle Jesse, all of
them grateful that their friendship had survivied the recent
confrontation.
