A Woman Scorned

Surprises

As he came out of the back door of the Duke farmhouse Bo stopped and
stared at the sight before him. Straightening up from his work on the
General was his cousin Luke, the only man Bo had ever loved, Bo was once
again struck by the thought of how lucky he was. Sometimes, like now
he couldn't help wondering why Luke was with him, what with all of his
problems from his past. Luke was a gorgeous man and his soul was every
bit as beautiful as the body it was in, he could have anybody he wanted,
man or woman. Bo couldn't understand how Luke could love someone like
him, but he thanked God everyday that he did, that they had discovered
their love for each other. Love that went deeper than anything Bo had
ever known before, more intense than Bo had ever imagined was possible.
"You gonna stand there all day darlin or you gonna bring that beer over
here?" Luke called to him breaking him out of his thoughts. Walking up
to Luke Bo handed him a beer as he leaned forward to claim a kiss.
Turning back to tuning up the General Bo and Luke were both feeling
happy and content, unaware of the storm headed their way.

In a small town in Tennessee Diane Bensen sat in a rundown motel
contemplating her options. After years of struggle, she had finally
been forced to sell her Carnival of Thrills, once the debts were paid
there was very little left over. As she wondered what to do now, where
to go she remembered back to a time, three and a half years ago and a
blond, blue-eyed country boy. She should've fought harder for Bo Duke,
they were perfect together, if it hadn't been for his family they'd still
be together. She just knew her life would have worked out so much better
if Bo had left Hazzard with her, and he would have too if not for his
family. Especially that cousin of his Luke, even before he knew about
the sabotage that Carl had been doing he had been against her. He had
done all he could to turn Bo against her, damn him, if it hadn't been
for his jealousy she'd still have Bo. If she still had Bo then she'd
still have her carnival, the carnival her daddy had built up from
nothing. It was too late to save the carnival, it was gone and there
was nothing she could do about it now, but there was something she could
do about Bo. She could return to Hazzard and win him back, this time
she wouldn't let Luke or any of the Dukes stop her from having what she
wanted. Diane was a woman who was well aware of the power she held over
men, she knew all she needed to do was flash her baby blues and bat her
lashes to get them eating out of her hand. Although it had never worked
on Bo's cousin come to think of it, things certainly would have been
easier if it had. Well this time would be different, by the end of the
week Bo Duke would be hers and there was nothing his family could do
about it. With that thought in mind Diane got ready for bed planning
to start for Hazzard first thing in the morning.

Two days later Diane pulled up to the Duke farm, looking around with
a bemused smile she couldn't believe he had chosen this over her. Hearing
the door open Diane turned towards it in time to see Bo step outside,
followed closely by Luke. Still as handsome as ever Diane thoroughly
enjoyed the sight of him coming towards her, she smiled at the thought
of once again having his strong arms around her. Meeting him half way
she wrapped her arms around him and pressed her lips to his, pulling back
after a moment Diane looked at Bo in confusion. Why wasn't he responding?
This had never happened to her before, it wasn't like she didn't know
he was attracted to her. At least he used to be, "Well aren't you happy
to see me Bo?"

"Diane what are ya doing here?" Bo asked as he gently removed her arms
from his waist and stepped back away from her and towards Luke.

Looking at Luke Diane realised she needed to get Bo alone if she
wanted to get him back. "Bo...I'm sorry I didn't think it would be like
this." Swallowing hard and allowing her eyes to tear up Diane continued,
"I lost the carnival Bo and you were the first person I thought of when
I was trying to figure out what to do next. I know I hurt you and I'm
sorry for that...Bo this is hard enough as it is, do you think we could
talk privately?"

Luke gave a snort of disgust, "Hurt him? Lady you got a lot of nerve
coming back here..."

"You know Luke maybe you should let Bo speak for himself. He's a
big boy and frankly I don't see how this is any of your business."

Stepping closer to Luke, Bo slipped an arm around his waist and whispered
in his ear before looking back at Diane. "Actually Diane it is Luke's
business, since me and him are together now. So anything you want to
say to me you can say in front of Luke. I'll tell ya now though if
you're thinking me and you could get together again it ain't gonna happen.
I love Luke, he's my world and I don't ever want anybody but him, I wish
you well Diane but the only thing I can offer you is friendship."

For several minutes Diane stood staring at them, shocked beyond words.
As the shock wore off and she saw all of her plans going up in smoke she
became angrier and angrier. "Well I guess we know now why you turned
Bo against me, don't we? You wanted him for yourself, you're a sick man
Luke Duke. You know I can't believe you, accusing me of manipulating
Bo and the whole time it was you that was doing the manipulating."

"Now you just wait one minute Diane, Luke didn't manipulate me. I fell
in love with Luke and it wasn't cause he tricked me into it either."
Left unsaid were the words 'like you', Bo's head whipped to the side
with the force of Diane's slap, before she could strike again Luke
grabbed her arm.

"I don't think so, you got no call to hit him, you ain't the wronged
party here. So now that you know where you stand I think you need to
leave." Luke ordered in a deceptively calm voice.

Diane pulled her wrist from Luke's grasp and stumbled back to her car,
getting in and starting it up she threw gravel up as she sped out of
the drive. "You okay darlin?" Luke asked, reaching up to caress Bo's
cheek.

"Yeah I just wasn't expecting to see Diane again. Guess maybe I could've
handled it better." Bo softly answered.

"Maybe, but you didn't invite her to come here and you sure didn't
ask her to throw herself at you. It's not your fault that she embarassed
herself, and Bo she will survive. Nobody ever died from embarassment
darlin and at least it was just the two of us here. ...Speaking of which,
what do ya say we take advantage of being alone." Luke said as he took
Bo's hand and led him back towards the house.
