Consequences (Redux)

Day dreaming was becoming a big problem for Jack. More than once he’d drifted off during a briefing or other supposable important lecture. It hadn’t been that much of a problem before, back when General Hammond was still in command.

But now he was the General in charge of the SGC, and was supposed to set a good example

Things had been relatively ok until a little other a month ago, when he’d gone through the gate to finalise a trade agreement with another member of the Protected Planets Treaty...

Tintagel was in the early stages of its industrial revolution and wanted advice on how best to proceed. In exchange they were willing to trade Naquadah in useable amounts. It hadn’t been really necessary for him to go, but the locals had heard that the Asgard held him in high regard, and wanted to meet the man who was considered a personal friend by Thor.

The fact that the indigenous population knew the truth about the Asgard had made things easier, as Jack never liked having to keep up the pretext that they were gods. The Asgard may be benevolent, especially compared to the Goa'uld, but it still didn’t sit right with him

A huge party had been held by the planetary government, with SG-1 as guests of honour. Jack had felt a little out of place, but the crowd had been big enough for him to lose himself and find somewhere quiet to enjoy the local ales. The drink was smoother than anything he’d tasted before, and he’d been guarantied that, while it would have some intoxicating effects, they were a lot less than any Earth brew.

Hours had gone by, Jack drinking in the relative peace and quiet of the balcony, with only SG-1 and their local guide for company.

The guide, a young woman named Anya, was apparently a local expert on the Stargate and its impact on her people’s history. She’d hit it off with Daniel immediately, and Jack was sure that there was more than professional interest there. His friend was, as ever, completely clueless, too caught up in the science and history to notice that a beautiful young woman was hitting on him.

Desperate for Daniel to find some happiness in his life, Jack had ‘accidentally’ tripped, pushing his friend into Anya. The young historian had taken the opportunity to kiss the startled Egyptologist, and then led him away somewhere for private.

Teal’c had left, needing to catch up on his kelnorim. He no longer needed to meditate, but he found it restful, a good way to re-centre himself.

Jack suddenly found himself alone with Sam, who was dressed in a rather slinky black dress provided by their hosts...

A knock on his office door brought Jack back to reality, and he looked up to see the same Lt. Col. Samantha Carter standing in the doorway, dressed in her usual duty uniform.

“Can I talk to you, sir?” She asked, somewhat hesitantly.

“Of cause you can, Carter.” Jack nodded, “My door is always open.”

“Thank you, sir.” Sam stepped inside and closed the door behind her, “It’s personal.”

“Have a seat.” Jack pointed at the empty chair on the other side of his desk as he sat upright, “What’s on your mind?”

“It’s about...” Carter swallowed, “It’s about what happened on Tintagel...”

The rather unusual light from twin moons cast strange shadows, and Jack was starting to feel to effects of the local Ale. Needing to find a safe topic, he’d asked Sam how the wedding plans were progressing. He’d been more than a little surprised when she’d collapsed into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably.

Bemused more than anything, Jack had tentatively put an arm around his subordinate, asking her what was wrong, if there was anything he could do. He’d meant it: despite his feelings for Sam, she was first and foremost a good friend and close colleague, and he hated the idea that something could upset her to this degree. In almost a decade of knowing her, he had never seen her so distraught.

Sam had held back the tears long enough to tell Jack what had happened: two weeks before, she’d flow to Denver, catching the jump-seat on an Air Force transport headed that way, intending to surprise Pete by arriving a day early, allowing them to spend a long weekend together. Letting herself into Pete’s apartment with the key he had given her, she had heard someone in the bedroom. Wanting to surprise him, she’d made her was silently along the hallway until she reached the bedroom door.

What she’d found had shattered her world: Pete had been in bed with another woman.

“Carter, if it’s about what you told me about Pete; I haven’t said a word to anyone.”

“It’s not that, Sir. It’s about what happened afterwards.”

Jack had stood in stunned silence as Sam told him the rest of the story.

Not trusting herself, Sam had left silently, stopping only to take off her engagement ring and drop it on the table by the door to Pete’s apartment. Taking a cab back to the airport, she’d got herself a seat on the first flight back to Colorado Springs. Cassie had been more than a little surprised to see her when Sam had arrive home, tears already flowing freely down the side of her face. Cassie had wanted to call the rest of SG-1, but Sam had stopped her, saying that she wasn’t ready to tell them just yet.

Jack couldn’t help but wished she had: he would have driven to Denver and punched Pete’s lights out. He knew for a fact that neither Daniel nor Teal’c would have even tried to stop him: they would have felt the same.

Knowing that her engagement was over, and that there was nothing she could do about it, Sam had responded by throwing herself into her work. Swearing Cassie to secrecy, she had avoided Pete at every turn, going so far as to spend an entire weekend on-base.

“I thought we agreed to chalk that one up to experience and never mention it again?”

“It’s a little more complicated than that, sir.” Sam took a deep breath, “I’m late.”

“That’s ok; we can continue this later.”

“I don’t mean that kind of late...”

“Oh?” Jack blinked, and then realization hit him like the proverbial ton of bricks, “Oh!”

Walking Sam back to her room, Jack had done everything he could to reassure her that everything was going to be ok.

Jack had gone to say goodbye, but Sam had stopped him, keeping her grip on his hand and she opened the door and stepped inside. Cold moonlight had filled the room as Sam pulled Jack into the room, letting the door close behind them with an audible click. Then, wrapping her slender arms around his neck, she had kissed him deeply, pulling her body against his. He had responded by enveloping her in a tight embrace, running his hands up and down her soft back.

“Come to bed.” Sam had almost moaned as she broke away from the kiss,

“That’s not such a good idea.” Jack had fought his own desire as he looked down into her sparkling blue eyes, “I don’t want you risking your career because you’re upset.

“I’ve never been so sure about anything.”

“What about...”

“Pete’s nothing to me: I know now that he was only a way of not-dealing with my feelings for you. That’s why I was never fully into the relationship, why I was so distant I never saw his affair coming.” She smiled, placing a finger on Jack’s lips as she pulled him towards the bed, “No more words. Not now...”

“Are you sure?” Jack sat up straight, shocked over what he’d been told.

“I missed my period, and have been feeling a little unwell in the mornings, so I went to the drug store and got a home pregnancy test.” Sam looked slightly more in control of her mentions, “I took it twice, and both times it came out positive, so I went to my doctors and had a blood test. He confirmed it this morning. I’m keeping it; there’s no question of that. I’m reaching the age when it’s now or never, so I guess it’s now.”

“Have you told Pete?”

“It’s not his, sir. I can’t take the pill, medical reasons, so I’ve always relied on other methods of contraception: the only time I haven’t was that night on Tintagel.”

The feel of Sam’s body pressed up against his own had been like a dream come true as they moved across the room towards the lavish four-poster bed. The total trust that existed between them took over as they moved to the bed. It had all seemed so natural that Jack hadn’t even try to fight it. The taste of her lips against his own drove him wild, and he almost growled when she broke away and stepped back.

Jack had been worried that she’s changed her mind, but Sam had quickly slipped the straps of her dress down over her shoulder, letting gravity pull it down. Smiling, she stood there in just a pair of plain white cotton panties and silk suspenders.

Seeing Sam like that for the first time had almost been too much for Jack: most of her skin was flawless, marred only be the nicks and scares that she’d acquired during her time with the SGC. Her breasts, while not overly large, stood out proudly, her erect nipples surrounded by dark, medium sized areola.

The pale moonlight turned her blond hair into a golden halo, transforming her into some kind of apparition. A slight breeze flowed through the room, catching a few hairs and sending them adrift behind Sam like a flowing mane. Jack pulled her back into a tight embrace, kissing her deeply as his hands roamed up and down her back. He then moved lower, kissing her along her jaw and down her neck until he reached her rosy nipples, gently grazing them with his teeth.

For her part, Sam pulled off his jacket and shirt, his masculine chest throbbing as his heart beat wildly. She ran her hand through the hairs on his chest, and went down to remove his belt and pants. Jack’s shaft had almost ripped through his shorts as Sam worked the rest of his clothes off. She rubbed the head of his shaft, making it pulsate as her fingers moved along its length.

Jack responded with an almost animalistic growl as he pulled Sam’s hands away: the last thing he wanted was for this to end too soon. Reaching down between them, he slipped his thumbs into the waistband of her panties and slid them down past her hips, letting gravity take them the rest of the way.

Sam automatically kicked them away before starting to undo the catches holding her suspenders up, but Jack had wordlessly stopped her. His hand slowly moved up the creamy soft skin of her upper thighs, before coming to rest on the thin patch of golden hair coving her sex. His middle finger probed a little, finding her clit poking out from under its hood, and stroked it gently.

Now it was Sam’s turn to growl, bucking her hips towards jack’s finger. But he pulled it away just as quickly, coving her mouth with his own as he stepped backwards towards the bed. Sam turned them round, lowering herself onto the bed. She paused to get her first good look at Jack’s now painfully erect and throbbing manhood. She mischievously licked the very end with it with the tip of her tough.

“Don’t!” Jack protested, speaking for the first time since entering the room, “Not yet.”

Sam just smiled, moving herself back further up the bed; her legs opened envyingly, her growing arousal clearly visible. Jack slowly climbed onto the bed and made his way towards her on his hands and knees, never breaking eye contact.

“Do you love me?” Sam asked as their face became level.

“I love you.” Jack smiled, slipping forward, enticing a gasp from Sam as he entered her. He moved his arms behind her shoulders, supporting most of his weight on his elbows as he started to move in further. Same moaned, wrapping her legs around his back, her angles crossed, matching his movement with an upward thrust of her lower torso.

Jack’s lips found Sam’s again, his tongue slid into her mouth, caressing the roof, sliding along and discovering every crevice as it fenced with her own. She moaned against his mouth and felt him grow harder inside her, if that were possible.

“Oh god that feels good”” Sam’s back arched as her first orgasm ripped through her body, making every part of her shake.

Jack kept moving inside her. He slid in and out, deeper with every thrust. Same could do nothing but moaned and whimpered with pleasure as Jack’s fingers slipped between them, caressing her clit until she suddenly felt more spasms of pleasure wash over her and cried out again.

“Jack!”

The sound of her calling his name at the height of her passion had been too much, and he felt his world exploded around him, shattering into a million pieces. Sam’s hands gripped his arms, her nails almost drawing blood as she pulled him into her body as she could, almost squeezing the air out of him with her legs.

Spent, they both collapsed; Jack’s head resting on Sam’s chest. He managed to roll over to one side, pulling her with him so her head ended up resting on his shoulder. Sam found some last reserve of strength from somewhere and pulled the sheets up over their naked bodies before they drifted off to sleep.

“Are you telling me...?”

“It’s yours, sir. I understand if you want a paternity test...”

“For Gods sake Sam; what kind of man, what kind of friend, do you take me for? If you say its mine, then I believe you.” Jack rubbed his forehead, feeling the sweat already starting to build up, “Does anyone else know?”

“I’m sure Cassie suspects, but she hasn’t said anything, and I’ve not brought it up. I understand if you don’t want anything to do with this: I can apply for a transfer...”

“Sam, that’s the last thing I’d want.”

“Then what do you want, sir?”

Waking the next morning, Jack felt the warm sunlight on his face, the unfamiliar but infinitely welcome feel of Sam’s body still curled up his side. He looked at her, his own smile mirroring the one on her lips.

“Morning.” He spoke softly, only half wanting to wake her.

Sam yawned, stretching her arms out behind her body. Her eyes flickered open, still half a sleep, and she looked at him. A flash of mixed emotions shot across her face as she sat bolt upright.

“Oh my god!” Sam looked round, pulling the sheet up around her armpits, trying to protect what little modesty she had left, “Please tell me we didn’t...”

“We did.” Jack propped himself up on his elbows, “And it was, as I recall, your idea...”

“Oh my god!” The colour drained from Sam’s face. She looked round, trying to locate her cloths.

“Sam, maybe we should...” Jack tried to say something, but Sam was already slipping out of the bed, pulling one of the sheets with her, wrapping it round her body like a toga. She quickly grabbed her cloths from the floor and disappear in the direction of the on-suite bathroom.

Feeling slightly dejected, Jack had collected his own clothes and dressed, hiding the missing buttons on his shirt underneath his jacket. He looked round, located the basin of water on the dresser and splashed some of the cold liquid onto his face, waking himself up quickly.

“Sir...” Sam stood in the bathroom doorway, her dress looking a little rumpled, but still taking nothing away from her beauty.

“I think we’re past that now.” Jack walked towards her, arms open, but she stepped back, stopping him short.

“I think it’s for the best if we try and put last night behind us, Sir.” Sam’s constant reminder of his rank started to rebuild the wall between them, “We both know that it was a serious breach of regs.”

“Is that what you want?”

“It’s what’s best for both of us.”

“That’s not what I asked.”

“Sir, please, this is difficult enough as it is.”

“As you wish.”

“You’re not going to tell anyone about last nigh, are you, Sir?”

“I was once told that I am an officer and a gentleman, and a gentleman would never say anything to besmirch a lady’s good name.”

“Thank you, sir. I should go...”

“It’s your room, Carter.” Jack felt the formal nature of their conversation stick in his throat, “I’ll...I’ll see you at breakfast.” Crossing the room in three long strides, he opened the door and quickly stepped out into the corridor. He stood and leaned back against the door, eyes closed.

“O’Neill.” Teal’c appeared out of nowhere, making the other man jump.

“Don’t do that to me Teal’c.” Jack shook his head, “I’m getting too old for that sort of surprise.”

“Indeed. Is something wrong with Samantha Carter?”

“What?”

“You are standing outside her room, apparently in some state of distress.”

“Nothing important T: just a misunderstanding about something that was said at the party last night.”

“Indeed.” The Jaffa looked sceptical, but knew better than to pry further, “I will see you later.” He continued to walk down the corridor.

“First off, you’re going to stop calling me ‘Sir’: I think we’re past that. Secondly,” Jack looked at his watch and did some quick mental arithmetic, “Hammond should be home from the Pentagon in an hour or two. I’ll call him from a pay phone off base and tell him what’s going on, see if he can suggest a way of dealing with this that doesn’t involve you ending up court-marshalled for breach of regs.”

“What about you? They could hang you out to dry.”

“As much as I love my job, I’m not going to let you destroy your career to try and save mine. No, if the Brass wants someone to fall on their sword, it’ll be me. At my age, I can probably dodge the bullet by retiring, again. But if they want to haul me over hot coals, then so be it.”

“Sir, Jack, I could never ask you to do that for me.”

“Sam, if you don’t know how I feel by now, then you’re not as smart as I know you are. I love you, and want to be with you, with the baby. That is, if that’s what you want...”

“More than anything.” Sam smiled, “What are we going to tell everyone?”

“The truth; or as much of it as they’re cleared to know.” Jack stood and walked round his desk, “Now come here and kiss me.”

Sam stood, wiping away the last few tears. Jack enveloped her with his arm, bending his head down to kiss her deeply.

“Jack, I need to talk to you about going back to Tintagel...” Daniel walked in without knocking, stopping dead when he saw his two closest friends in a compromising position, “Or maybe I should come back later...”

“Danny, it’s ok.” Jack smiled at his friend, “Come in and close the door; we have some important news...”

The End
