A time to kill
Disclaimer- I do not own CSI or any characters from it…but I wish I did.
Warning- Character death.
Standing around the grave, the entire department watched as the first shovel of dirt hit the coffin. Catherine wept quietly and the rest of the team stood stoic. No one could have known that what seemed like a suicide was actually a murder, one that would cost them one of their partners…one of their family. The funeral over, the team began to leave. There was no time to take off work. Murderers didn’t wait.
“Good-bye, Sara.” Catherine said before walking away.

“Alright, Catherine and Warrick, I need you to go down to the Mirage, there’s a double homicide. Nick, there’s a suspected arson down on Carson and 54th that you and I will be working until the new lab tech gets here. Greg, you need to work fast on that evidence from the assumed suicide. I want that killer caught, and fast. And if anyone needs someone to talk to…” Here Grissom paused and for a moment looked like he had aged 20 years. “There’s a therapist in the building, but my door is always open.” Grissom bowed his head, almost as if for a moment of silence. Then he shook his head, and walked out of the room. The rest of the team followed, each off to their assignments.
Greg walked into the lab, more somber than anyone had ever seen him. He just couldn’t imagine being in the lab, and not having Sara come in and tell him that her evidence needed to be taken care of now, or that he shouldn’t be goofing off. He had always had been interested in Sara. Now, he would never know if there was something there. He sighed before starting to work on the case that had killed Sara.

“Shit! I’m going to be late!” Kara jumped out of bed. She only had 30 minutes to be ready for and at work. She ran around, scrambling for the outfit she had set out, glad that she had set them out before she went to bed that morning. Grabbing her studded purse, she ran out the door.
Arriving right on time, Kara made her way through the maze that was the CSI building. She walked slowly, biting her bottom lip and peeking through windows, looking for a lab or an office. Finally she saw what looked like a briefing room. She walked up, her high heeled boots clacking on the floor, bringing everyone’s attention to her.
“Umm…hi. I’m Kara Nilson, the lab tech. Am I late?” Her eyes opened a little wide, giving the appearance of innocence to go along with her nibbling her lower lip.
“Not all, Kara. Please be seated, and we’ll make introductions.” Grissom gestured to the empty chair that Kara knew had once belonged to a former partner and friend. Kara looked at it, then at the faces around her. No one looked like they were upset about her, so she sat down. “To your immediate left is Catherine Willows, across from you is Warrick Brown, next to him is Nick Stokes, and at the end of the table is Greg Sanders, the former lab tech. I’m Gil Grissom. Welcome to the team.” She nodded at each in turn, making sure to remember each name and face. Gil, finished with briefing, turned to Kara. “If you want I can show you the lab. Or Greg can. He can also show the you latest cases and where he left off in processing.” Kara nodded. “I think that would be best.” Greg nodded and headed towards the lab.
I’ll continue, but only if you review!!
