Sara woke with an unfamiliar ache between her thighs. She opened her eyes and was blinded by the morning sun’s reflection. Rolling to her back, she rubbed her eyes and realized what had reflected the sun and smiled. She reached for her husband, but found only cool sheets. Sara sat up and looked around the suite. She didn’t hear anyone else in the room as she entered the bathroom. There was no sign of her husband anywhere, even his clothes from the night before were gone. She wrapped herself in a hotel bathrobe and sat on the sofa, curling her legs under her as she waged the internal war.

“There’s a logical explanation for this ..yeah I disappointed him in bed….no he loves me……are you sure?…..we got married last night…..easy fix, this is Vegas.”

The sound of the door opening snapped her out of her monologue and she saw Grissom carrying a pair of duffle bags. He smiled when he saw her sitting there in the sunlight, until he noticed the tears threatening to fall.

“Sara honey what’s wrong?”

She fought back her tears and tried to smile. “Nothing.” When she felt Grissom’s arms around her, she couldn’t fight anymore. “Ok there was something. But it’s really stupid.”

“Sweetheart anything that gets you upset enough to cry is not stupid. What is it?”

“I woke up and you were gone, your clothes were gone, it was like you were never here. Part of me knew there was a perfectly good reason, and part of me thought maybe you regretted marrying me.”

“Honey I’m sorry. You looked so beautiful sleeping I didn’t want to wake you, and I didn’t mean to be gone so long. I thought I’d be back before you woke up. I just ran over to your apartment and the townhouse to get more clothes for us. We didn’t think about that yesterday.”

Sara dried her tears and smiled. “See I knew there was a reason. That’s why I felt so silly sitting here crying.”

Grissom kissed her head and caressed her face. “Sara I only have one regret about marrying you. And that’s only that I didn’t do it sooner.” He kissed her passionately and soon they found their way back to the bed. Their passion quelled all of her fears so she would never doubt his love again.

(Later)

Grissom and Sara cuddled in bed while they snacked on a fruit platter from room service. “So are we going to talk about this or are we just going to make love all day?” Sara smiled against his chest. “Oh that does sound good. But we do need to talk don’t we?”

“Oh just a little. Like what are you going to do about work? Where are we going to live?”

“What do you mean what am I going to do about work?”

“That didn’t come out right. I meant with work as far as your name goes. Are you going to change your name or keep it?”

Sara snuggled closer and wrapped her arms around him. She smiled when she felt his fingers slowly stroking up and down her nude back. “You know I hadn’t thought about that. I just always assumed if I ever got married I would change my name.”

He smiled. “Well if that’s what you want by all means. You’re so independent I wasn’t sure if you actually wanted to be Mrs. Grissom or not.”

She sat up and looked at him, moving to straddle his hips as she spoke. “Hey just because I’m independent doesn’t mean I’m not traditional. Just don’t get any ideas about calling me the little woman or expecting me to cook every night.”

A few hours later they checked out of the hotel and went to Sara’s apartment to pack up a few things to take over to Grissom’s townhouse and then went to meet Elizabeth for a late lunch. She met them with a couple of her friends who had made the trip with her. He greeted them each with a hug and began signing and speaking for Sara’s benefit. “Mom you didn’t tell me this was a group trip? How long have you been in town anyway?”

Her friend Maggie answered in sign. “We’ve been here what 4 days now? Liz said we couldn’t leave town until she got to see you and you were just getting back from a trip. So what’s this I hear about you finally making your mom happy and getting married?”

Another woman turned him to her and began signing. “Yeah what is that anyway? Has Liz finally gone off the deep end? I mean we know you Gilly and I just can’t believe what she was telling us.”

Grissom blushed and mentally gave thanks that Sara didn’t sign. Liz got her friends’ attention and signed “Now girls let’s not be rude. Sara doesn’t sign.”

The women turned and looked at Sara smiling as they spoke. “Sorry. We get a little carried away sometimes.”

Lunch flew by with the women gushing over their wedding photos and Sara’s ring. Before the women left they made Gil and Sara promise to come visit soon, and then the newlyweds were left alone again. After spending a few hours with a local realtor doing some house hunting, they went back to Grissom’s townhouse planning on watching TV and Chinese take out.
Sara’s pager went off before they got there. It was Catherine giving her an update on their case. Instead of one suspect, they were bringing in two so she was requesting Sara to come in. “Sorry honey, but I really need to go in for this. With the way she practically pushed me out the door when you got back, for her to call me in she has to be stuck.”

“Hey don’t apologize. It’s the job. Besides this can give us a chance to talk to the team before you have to work a full shift with them.”

“Oh you think they’ll let us out of the building after we drop this bomb? You know your guys better than that. Don’t be surprised if we wind up in interrogation rooms, separately, and Brass too.”

Grissom laughed. “It’s not an interrogation room I’m worried about. With Catherine it’s more like afraid I’ll be in the morgue after she finds out that she missed it.”

They made it to the lab and Catherine brought her up to speed on what they had found on both suspects. Sara took the one folder from her, using it to hide her ring, and they split up into the interrogation rooms. Twenty minutes later Sara’s suspect was making a deal to rat out his partner and they were both arrested.

Grissom was waiting for them in the break room with Nick, Warrick, and Greg. Sara noticed he was sitting in a corner with his left hand discreetly between his knee and the wall. His body language said he was completely relaxed and no one would have guessed he was hiding anything.

Nick looked up when Catherine and Sara walked in. “Hey Sar. Sorry you got called in on your day off, but we were pretty backed up.” Sara shrugged “Hey it’s not a problem. It was Catherine and my case anyway.” As Sara poured her coffee she didn’t realize her hand was exposed. Greg grabbed her hand, flinging coffee all over the break room.

“Sara!! What the hell is this?”

“Gee thanks Greg. I was hoping to get some coffee into me before I told you guys.”

Greg held her hand. “It’s really over isn’t it? I’ve lost you for good.” Sara patted his cheek. “Greg as sweet as you are, you never had a chance.” He smiled. “I know, but I still had my dreams.”

Grissom walked over and put his arm around Sara. “Well Greg now you can stop dreaming about my wife.”

Catherine, Nick, and Warrick all started choking on their coffee. Warrick recovered first. “Your wife? Now we expected an engagement ring before long, but you two just took off and got married?”

Grissom moved his arm so his left hand was over Sara’s shoulder. “We didn’t take off. We went to the chapel at the Luxor.”

Nick froze and paled. “The Luxor?” Grissom simply smiled. “Why not? It seemed right since the last time I was there it changed my life. Then last night, it got changed again.”

They spent the next few minutes telling them the whole story of the wedding and promised to have everyone over to watch the video. Grissom went to the car to collect the photos while Catherine gave Sara’s ring her inspection.

“Damn the bug guy doesn’t mess around. These puppies are all high end VS1’s, at least. Boys take notes. This is how you treat a lady.”

Grissom smiled. “Well I’m glad you approve.” He handed her the photos and she got a good look at his ring as well. “Damn Gil you really did this right. Where did you find rings like this on such short notice?”

“Chicago.”

Greg smiled and looked from the newlyweds over to Catherine. “Well if that’s how you treat a lady, can I skip all the ignoring her and breaking her heart for years. I don’t think I’d survive the sexual tension.” He ducked just in time to have Grissom’s hand miss the back of his head.

Brass walked in when he saw Gil and Sara in the break room. “I see you’ve been cornered.”

Catherine shot him a glare. “And you! How could you let them do this without us?” Brass held up his hands in surrender. “Hey don’t look at me. The whole night went from proposal to wedding in under an hour. And it was Sara’s idea to get hitched last night. Gil said whenever she wanted, she said now. I was an innocent bystander.”

Nick looked over at the photos on the table. “Hey these are pretty good.” Catherine looked and was stunned. “You guys wore black to get married? Why am I not surprised.”

Greg looked at the photos and smiled. “Well I think they both look great. A lot of brides are doing black and white weddings in the evening. Hey now don’t give me that look. With everyone in the lab looking at me like a little brother I get all the good gossip when the techs are planning weddings.”

Catherine looked through more of the photos. She had to admit they looked good together, regardless of what color they wore, and she was happy for them. “Well I think we can forgive you guys for getting married without us under one condition. We’re throwing you guys a reception. And no arguments. Everyone in this lab put up with the two of you dancing around each other for years. The least you can do is let them enjoy seeing you two together finally.”

Grissom sighed in defeat. “Ok just let us know when. Now can we get out of here? We’re supposed to meet our realtor first thing in the morning.”

Warrick looked up grinning. “You guys moving?”

Grissom smiled. “Well it is customary for a husband and wife to live together, and neither of our places really have enough room.”

Nick laughed. “Room for what, all your books and bugs? Or is there something you’re not telling us Griss? Come on now, don’t tell me Brass and your mom dragged you out for a shotgun wedding.”

“Nick! Give us a little credit would you?” Sara said as she rolled her eyes. “He’s planning on doing some research, so he needs more room for his bugs. With all my stuff from the apartment, we’d overflow the townhouse even without extra bugs.”

Catherine’s pager went off with a case and the couple were finally able to escape and head home. Getting into Grissom’s Mercedes Sara thought that this was the most normal he life had ever been.
