Killing Me Softly
Prologue

(August 2011, Neptune California, the Kane Estate)
The air around them was thick.
All sound faded into the distance.
The only thing either of them could see, feel, smell was the person standing right infront of them. They stood there for what seemed like forever. Finally someone, somewhere broke the spell and the woman blinked, breaking the connection they had.
All the air left his body as her eyes once again searched his face, trying to convince herself that he was real. His gaze devoured her, taking in the subtle changes in her, the longer length of her hair, the layers she had added over the years. All the tiny changes on the outside intrigued him, but what really caught his attention was her eyes. Something in her eyes was gone, it took a few moments for him to realize what it was. The pain, the pain she had suffered through everday for almost two years was gone, only to be replaced with something else, something wonderful.
"Ronnie." Her name was said like a prayer on his lips, and that was all it took for her to wake up from the fantasty.
Veronica's whole form changed suddenly and she stiffened, her posture of a determined woman. "Logan, it's be a while." She said simply, her tone very different from his.
He noticed the change in her and hated it, she went from the teenage girl he loved to this overly serious woman that now stood infront of him in the blnk of an eye.
"Yeah, Veronica it has." Logan agreed with her, unable to come up with anything else to say. He remained there starring her down, hoping to bring back the connection they had only moments before when suddenly her eyes widened and her frame went even more rigid.
She whispered "Oh, shit." under her breath and quickly turned from him to face the entry to the Kanes' courtyard. Logan glanced past her, wondering what had her so upset when he saw something that made his heart sweel and break at the same time.
Veronica watched as the tiny little 4 year old girl with bouncy blonde curls came running at her, full speed. The adorable apple cheeked little girl saw Veronica and ran as fast as her little legs would cary her. "Mommy! Mommy! " Veronica looked back behind her at Logan's stunned face and sighed, knowing she couldn't stop the events of the next few seconds, so she turned back to her little girl just as she got in reaching distance and scooped her up in a huge bear hug, fighting back a smile as the little angel in her arms giggled and squirmed.
Logan stood back and watched Veronica with her daughter, hundreds of thoughts swirling around in his mind and heart. It made his heart ache to think of his Veronica having a child with another man....why hadn't anyone told him before now....how could they be so cruel to let him find out on his own?
Finally Veronica turned back to her ex-lover with a feeling of dread seeping through her entire body. She clutched her daughter to her side and braced herself and the little girl for the fall out.
"Logan Echolls, meet Amelia Lillianne Mars, your daughter."
