I'm thinking GSR but you never know.
DISCLAIMER: CHARACTERS BELONG TO CBS AND ANTHONY ZUIKER. I AM MAKING NO PROFIT, JUST HAVING FUN.

He stood at the bar watching people come in. Very few people initiated contact with
him. He knew it was because he was generally disagreeable, but that was just his way.
He would go over and schmooze in a bit. That was what he had come to this party to do.
The Mayor's Spring Fling always brought out the very best Vegas had to offer. He reminded
himself as he took another sip of bourbon that he was here for his career. If he kissed enough
ass someday he would be named Cavallo's replacement. He didn't like kissing ass per se, but that
was what separated him from Gil Grissom. He understood politics. He knew how to get the
things he wanted. He knew how to play the game.

His latest move was to make it mandatory for all CSI's to attend this function. Of course,
he had to make exceptions for those who were currently on shift. The others, however, had
better show up. He knew Catherine would be there. She was showing good potential as
a shift leader. He felt she was going to have a much more lucrative career than Gil. He expected
Warrick and Nick to show up. If for no other reason, he assumed the two studs would want a chance
to pick up chicks. Everyone from day shift had already RSVP'd. They never gave him any problem.
The two that really concerned him were Grissom and Sara. He didn't put it passed Gil to not show up
just to embarrass him. If one of the supervisors didn't show it would be a slap in the face. And he
knew Gil had some kind of hold over Sara. If he asked her not to come, she'd probably not show
either. He really had to get a handle on the two of them. Maybe he should move her to days.

His thoughts were interupted by Catherine's grand entrance. Everyone turned to stare. Catherine's
hair always made her stand out. Tonight she was weaing a baby blue dress that left very
little to the imagination. He was almost embarrassed by the fact that one of his employee's had
shown up dressed that way. That was until he saw the Mayor slobbering over her. He didn't get
it yeah she was pretty. And, she exuded sexuality but who hadn't she slept with? He wasn't
certain that she had'nt banged Gil. He saw the way she hung on Warrick and Nick, He began to
think that maybe he was the only guy in Vegas she hadn't fucked. He watched the Mayor escort
Catherine to his table before he turned his attention back to the main door.

A few sips of his bourbon later and Warrick and Nick came in together. He chuckled as he thought
they made a cute couple. But, the laugh died quickly as a gorgeous blonde took hold of Nick's arm
and swept him onto the dance floor. Warrick looked at his buddy and grinned as he took a seat at
the table designated CSI's. He thought about joining Warrick but knew he probably wouldn't be
welcomed. The young man had never been rude to him but he knew that he looked at Gil as if
he were some sort of father figure. Warrick was definitly in Gil's corner.

He tried to decide when he had started to think of things in those terms; his corner, Gil's corner. He
supposed it was when he divorced. Janie had taken the kids and moved to Florida. There wasn't
much left for him but work these days. Thinking of his failed family was beginning to depress him, so he
ordered another drink. He was tired of watching people so he turned around to face the bar. He would
wait five or ten more minutes and go speak with the Mayor.

Three or four sips later the bar stool beside his moved.
"Ecklie," Sara acknowledged him as she tried to get the bartender's attention.
"CSI Sidle," he said in his condescending tone. But he wished it had come out
differently because that wasn't how he was feeling at all. She was breathtaking.
She had her hair pulled up. Curls framed either side of her face. And her eyes,
dear God, he had never noticed her eyes before. The were thickly lined with black eyeliner.
She had on a soft brown lip stick that made him want to kiss it off. But it was the
dress that was making his blood boil. Black and sleek. It fitted her lithe frame perfectly.
He wished that he hadn't been sitting at an open bar. He would love to buy her a drink.
"Sara, I'm sorry if I sounded like an ass," he began but she cut him off.
"When don't you sound like an ass?"
"Look, Sidle, I am trying to apologize. You look stunning. Would you like to dance?"
"You're kidding right? Me, dance with you?"
"No, I am not kidding, come on what do you say?"
Sara's first instinct was to say no, get her drink, and walk away. But then she realized she was
going to be at this damned party for at least two hours maybe it would be a good way to kill a little
time.
"Okay," she responded," but if you step on my toes, I'm outta here."
"I can actually dance pretty well, Sara." Ecklie extended his hand.
Five minutes later Sara realized he hadn't been kidding. He was a much better dancer than
she was. She had thought that it would have felt awkward to be dancing with Conrad Ecklie but it
had been such a long time since she had been on a date, much less been in some man's arms, it actually
felt kinda good. She just wished another supervisor had asked her to dance. But she knew that Grissom
would never ask her to dance. In fact, she was pretty certain that even if she had asked him to dance, he would
say no. He didn't have any problems rejecting her that was for damn sure. Hell, Grissom would probably likely
never show up anyway. Sara decided to relax and have
a little fun. There really was no harm in it after all.

Little did she know that Grissom was already there and didn't like what he was seeing. She
was also equally unaware that all Ecklie could think about was how bad he wanted to conquer her,
how bad he wanted her to leave Gil's corner for his, how bad he wanted to bed her.
