JANE

She exited her apartment door and began to run. She picked up the pace as she hit the pavement. Her feet were flying underneath her. She could hear nothing but the rustle of the breeze in the trees. It was so peaceful and tranquil. She loved to run at this hour. There was no traffic, none of the usual noise that was known to Vegas. It was early enough to be before everyone was going to work but after all the bars settled down. Yes this was definitely her favorite hour. It was seven am and she just got home from the night shift at the crime lab. She found she always slept better if she went for a run before she crashed. The more you run, the easier it will be to get pregnant. Go away stress, Sara wants a baby.

As stressful as her job was these days, it was good for her to have an outlet to unwind. She had only started running recently. She did it to relieve stress. She ran on the track team at Harvard, but she hadn’t forgot how. It was like riding a horse, once she got back in the saddle, per se, she was back into her old routine. Ten miles a day like clockwork.

She and Grissom had been dating a while. They had been together nearly six months. They kept it very low key at work. Sara had never been happier. She got her biggest prayer answered. A baby was her second prayer and so far that was a useless endeavour. Grissom was the reason she came to Vegas, he called and asked her. She would have jumped off the San Francisco Bridge if he asked her to. He had that effect on her. She was glad he finally wised up; she was getting tired of trying.

They decided to take things slow. They each kept their respective residences; Sara her apartment and Grissom his townhouse. It gave them a bit of personal space, not that they used it much these days. They were usually together more than they were apart. They decided that after a year they would move in together, it would be enough time to get used to the new adjustments that were slowly being made. Sara enjoyed his house; it was slowly beginning to feel like home.

Since Sara was pushing thirty-five and Grissom fifty they decided that if they wanted to have children they needed to do it soon. Sara went off birth control nearly three months ago. They decided that if it happened it happened. Sara had been talking to some people about fertility, they told her she would have a hard time conceiving because of the stress of her job. That was one of the main reasons she started running again.

Sara turned to the hikers trail. She always ran though here. It was so beautiful and peaceful. There were slight sounds of the birds and the forest animals but that was it. Sara could vaguely hear them over her music playing in her ears. She stopped to tie her shoe and take a drink of her water she heard something weird, something was off. Sara shifted into investigator mode.

Was that a baby crying? It is just your imagination; you want one that bad you hear them in the woods? Sidle, you are going nuts.

Baby crying got louder. Is that a baby?

She went to investigate further. The crying got louder as she approached a pile of leaves in the clearing. Bending down she realised the pile of leaves covered a baby. A living and crying, still breathing baby. Oh my God, it’s a baby. What is a baby doing in the woods?

Sara picked up the crying child and coddled her to her chest. She was wet, she deducted that she had been here a few days; it rained a few days ago, but not since. Sara figured the baby was hungry, cold and soiled. She picked up her phone and called Grissom. Her heart was racing and it nearly was pounding out of her chest.

“Grissom.” She is panicking. What’s wrong?

“Gris, I need your help. Don’t ask questions please just do as I say.”

“Umm Sara.” What is up with her? Talk to me Sara.

“Grissom, please.” This poor baby needs us. We may be all she has.

“Alright, what do you want?” He knew better than to argue.

“Go to the store and pick up the following things. Do you have paper? It’s a long list.”

“I got paper, now what do you want?” This should be interesting.

“Ok, I need Diapers, I’d say size 2, for a little girl, we need formula, Similac or something. We will need baby bottles, diaper rash ointment and baby wipes. You will want to pick up a few outfits for a girl, size three to six months. We will also need a car seat. Did you get that all?”

“I got it but I tell you, I’m confused. Is there something you are not telling me?” Is she bringing a baby home?

“Just go get this stuff and meet me at your house. I am only a few miles away. I’ll let myself in, hurry back.”

“Alright, see you soon, Sara.” I need to know what is going on.

Sara disconnected the phone and wrapped the baby in her t-shirt. She was only in her sports bra; she figured the baby needed the shirt more than her. Holding the small child at her chest tightly she began to jog towards Grissom’s.

Sara stepped up on the porch and unlocked the door with her key. She walked in and took her shoes off and walked towards the couch with the baby. She had settled down some, but not fully. Sara figured she was probably hungry, babies were usually fed every four hours and Sara figured this one had been there a few days. She silently hoped Grissom returned quickly so that this little girl could get something to eat.

She peeled the tiny child out of her wet clothes and her soiled diaper. She took note of the raw rash that covered the infant’s bottom. Poor thing that must be sore. She got a warm cloth and gently dabbed the dried on mess that covered her small bottom. She wrapped her in a hand towel as she waited for Grissom. Sara gave the baby a finger to suck on to pacify her until Grissom got home. She sucked greedily on it. Poor thing, you are starving. Who did this to you? Why did they do this? What is your name? I think I will call you Jane, you are a Jane Doe for now, Jane it is.

Sara looked down at Jane. “I’m gonna call you Jane until we figure out who you are.” She heard the door rattle. “Griss, is that you?”

“Yes, Sara, could you give me a hand?”

“I can’t sweetie, I have the baby.”

Baby? What baby? “What?”

“I told you I’d explain, I will, just get all the stuff in here please.”

He made three trips to the truck but he was finally done. It was then that he noticed the small baby in Sara’s arms sucking on her finger. “Sara.” He looked at her puzzled.

“I found her Griss, in the woods on the hiking trail.” Sara stood up, baby in her arms.

“Who would do this? Why would they do this?”

“I asked the same questions. Would you mix me a bottle for her, please.”

“Sure thing.” He walked to the kitchen.

“Did you get some clothes for her?”

“Yes, they are in a bag. I’ll get them in a minute. I bet you need diapers too.”

“And diaper cream, did you remember that?”

“Yes, and a few other things too, I just grabbed a bunch of stuff, just give me a second.”

Grissom appeared in a very few minutes with a bottle for the baby. He passed it to Sara and she sat down. The child suckled on the nipple like it was her last meal. She is so precious. I want one so badly.

“You are sure hungry, sweetie.” Sara said caressing the child’s face. “I call her Jane. She is a Jane Doe.”

Grissom smiled, “Wanna see what I got? I figured we could just save what we don’t use, we will have a baby someday, right.” I hope so, for Sara’s sake.

Sara hoped. Holding Jane only made it worse. “Will you make me another bottle first, this little one is starving.”

Grissom did so and returned with another bottle for the baby and he placed the bags in front of him and her to show her what he had bought.

“I got her this,” He said holding up a small pink sleeper. “There are a few more too. I also got more bottles, a pacifier, some diapers, diaper cream, blankets, medicine, something called a pack and play, a stroller, a car seat and a few other things.”

“You got all that?” He is more prepared for this than I thought.

“Yes, I told the girl at Wal-Mart I was getting company with a small child, under six months and I asked her what I needed.” I bought one of everything.

“I’m so proud of you.” Sara smiled. The baby finished the second bottle. Sara wanted to put a diaper before she peed into the towel that was currently wrapped around her. “Would you pass me a diaper and the cream, please?”

He did so and he watched in awe as Sara changed the baby. She was a natural. He hoped she would have her own children soon. Sara needs a baby and soon.

“Sara, I’m gonna set up the baby’s bed so you can put her down.”

Sara nodded as she hummed to the baby. She rocked her in her arms. The baby sucked greedily on the pacifier. Sara put one of the sleepers on the baby and wrapped her in a blanket. She walked to the spare room where Grissom was setting up the baby’s bed.

“Is this supposed to be difficult?” He asked with a perturbed look upon his face.

“Want me to try?” Sara asked.

He nodded. “Please.”

“Here, take the baby.” Sara passed her to him. Grissom apprehensively took the child. “Griss, she won’t bite.” Sara giggled. I’ve never done this before.

“Sara, what are we going to do about this?” She is some cute.

“We’re gonna call Brass, but I want to see if they will let me keep the child.”

“Keep her?” As in forever?

“Yes, this was an omen, Griss, I found her on my running trail. If I hadn’t have found her we would have been called in to investigate her death. I was meant to find her.” Sara snapped the bed into place and proceeded to place the blankets in it. Grissom lay down the sleeping child into the bed.

“I’m gonna call Brass, you coming?”

“In a second, I just want to make sure she is ok.”

Grissom nodded and left. He called Brass. He was coming over. He sat on the couch. When the doorbell rang Sara joined him in the living room. Grissom answered the door, it was Brass.

“Jim, come on in.” Grissom ushered him inside.

“Gil, it sounded urgent, what can I do for you?”

“Sara stumbled on something today, we need your help with it.” She needs some serious help.

Jim Brass was confused. Sara held out her hand. “Come here.” He stood and followed. Sara showed him the small sleeping infant.

“Where did you get this child?”

Sara walked out with her finger to her mouth. “Shh, she is sleeping.”

“I found her in the woods where I run.”

“Seriously?”

“Brass, would I make this up?”

“I guess not. Where exactly?”

Sara gave him specific instructions and he called Catherine and asked her to go check it out, and to treat it like a crime scene.

“Sara, did you see anything there?”

“No, just the baby, hidden under some leaves, she was crying or I would have never found her, she would have died cold and alone.” Sara sniffled.

“Its ok, she is ok now.”

Sara smiled. “I want to see about keeping her.” I want her to be mine.

“You do?”

“Yes, if she is an orphan I want to keep her. I have grown attached to her. I’m gonna call social services later on.”

“Do you have the clothes?” Sara retrieved them and put them in a bag and passed them to Brass. “I’ll keep you informed. I assume you won’t be in tonight.”

“I won’t but Griss probably will.”

“Alright, I’ll see you then.” Brass left.

Sara and Grissom headed straight for bed, it had been a long night. Sara had sweet dreams of a life including Jane.

Sara called social services and they wanted to meet with her. She was so nervous. The woman was scheduled to arrive at three to meet Jane. When the doorbell rang, Sara jumped. It scared her.

The woman on the other side of the door was around Sara’s age she decided. She wore stylish glasses that flattered her face and a business suit, she carried a briefcase. Sara asked her inside and offered her a seat on the couch.

They discussed the circumstances, how Sara found the baby, what she looked like, etc. Sara introduced her to the baby.

“I call her Jane. She is technically a Jane Doe until we identify her.” She is my Jane.

The woman smiled softly. “Can I see where she sleeps?”

Sara stood up cuddling the baby to her chest as she walked to the baby’s room. “Gil bought her a Pack and Play. We can get her a crib if you want.”

“It is not necessary. So what are your intentions with the child?”

“I want to keep her.”

CHAPTER 2
“I want to keep her. If she is an orphan I would like to adopt her. Not just me, me and my boyfriend.” Boyfriend? Sara that sounds so childish.

“Where is your boyfriend?”

“He is sleeping still. He works night shift at the Las Vegas Crime Lab, actually we both do.”

“I will need to interview him too.”

“I’ll go get him.”

“Not yet. I have a few questions for you first.”

Sara’s head perked up. “You do?” Oh no, I’m screwed.

“What is your annual income?”

“About thirty-five thousand, give or take.”

“Where do you live?”

“Mainly here. I have an apartment too, but I’m slowly moving in here.”

“Do you have any dependants?”

“No, we are actually trying to have children.” I hope to anyway.

“Why should I consider you foster parents for this child?”

“Foster Parents?” Sara Shuddered.

“Yes, until we determine whether she is actually an orphan, you will be foster parents. Is that going to be a problem?”

“No. Not at all.”

“So why should I consider you as foster parents?”

“I found the child crying and took immediate action to care for her well-being. I got her clothed, warmed up and fed as well as made sure she felt secure. I feel the little girl has bonded with me.”

“What about your boyfriend? Will he have a problem?”

“No. Want me to go get him? I need to put her down anyway.”

“Sure.”

Sara walked in to wake Grissom. “Griss, sweetie. The Social Services lady wants to talk to you. Can you get dressed and come out?”

He nodded as he got up and sat on the edge of the bed. “Be right there.”

She kissed him softly and went to lay down the baby. She returned to the living room.

Grissom soon joined them. He held out his hand. “Gil Grissom.”

“So you are Miss Sidle’s Boyfriend?”

Boyfriend? “Um Yes.”

“What do you do for a living?”

“I am the night shift supervisor at the Las Vegas Crime Lab.”

“What do you earn yearly?”

“Around Seventy-Five Thousand.”

“So between the both of you basically make One hundred thousand yearly?”

“Yes, is that a problem?”

“No, that’s wonderful.”

“Do you have any other dependants?”

“No, we are trying though.” I hope to.

“Do you plan on marrying?”

What? Is that your business? “Yes.”

Sara’s face shocked Grissom.

“Do you have a problem being foster parents?”

He looked to Sara. “No. If that’s what it takes I’m willing to do it.”

Sara held his hand as she took notes. “Alright. I will approve you for foster parents pending more information about the child’s parents to take this further.”

Sara’s smile was unmistakable. “Thank you so much. I really appreciate this. Really we do.”

The woman left. Sara looked at Grissom.

“She called me your boyfriend.”

“I didn’t know what else to call you?”

“I want to be your husband, will you allow me to?”

Sara smiled. “You bet.”

Sara stayed home with the baby while Grissom went to work. Swing was still working the case. There was more to this story than meets the eye. Seems there had been a woman with the child. She was found at the bottom of the grade. They found evidence she had rolled down it. They assumed she had been going to get help. She had deep stab wounds in her lower abdomen. They were the cause of death. They needed the baby’s DNA to see if she was indeed her mother.

Sara was feeding the baby when the phone rang. “Sidle.”

“Sara, it’s me. There has been new evidence on Jane’s case, are you able to bring her in so we can get a DNA sample?”

“Sure Griss. In a few, I’m just feeding her.”

“Alright, see ya then.”

Sara fed and dressed the baby and headed to the lab.

She immediately found Grissom. He filled her in as Greg drew the baby’s blood. “Sara there had been a woman with the child. She was found at the bottom of the grade. They found evidence she had rolled down it. They assumed she had been going to get help and never made it. She had deep stab wounds in her lower abdomen. They were the cause of death.”

“Her mother was killed?” Poor thing. She is an orphan.

“I’m afraid it looks that way.”

“Anything else?”

“They found a knife too, the blood matches our Vic.”

“Any ideas on who killed her?”

“They found prints. It was an ex-con. He has a few felonies and a few weapons charges. Brass is bringing him in.”

“I want to view the interrogation, Griss.” I need to…

“I’m not sure that would be a good idea.”

“Please, I want you with me, but please. I need to see what kind of person does this.”

“Alright, but I want to be with you.”

“I’ll see if Greg will watch Jane.”

Sara returned and joined Grissom on the other side of the mirror. The large man sat opposite Catherine. Brass was there too. The man was twitching incessantly. Sara couldn’t believe someone was capable of this.

“We found your prints on a bloody knife used to stab a woman.” Catherine began.

“So.” He spat.

“Did you stab that woman?”

“So what if I did. The sleazy bitch deserved it. She got her self knocked up and tried to pass that brat off as mine.”

“So you knew about the baby?”

“Yeah, the bitch said it was mine.”

“In about ten minutes I can give you proof that she was or wasn’t, we run a DNA test.”

“I stabbed her and left her for dead unable to help that little brat, I left her screaming with her mother rendered useless, she would watch her own child starve to death unable to help her.”

Brass stood up. “You are under arrest.”

“So what, the joint’s not new to me.”

“We are sending you for a phsyc evaluation.”

“What the…” Brass took him out of the room.

Sara clenched Grissom as the tears ran down her face. “He did it. I can’t believe he did it and admitted to it without a hint of remorse. Its people like that that drive me crazy.”

“Lets go check on Jane.”

Sara nodded as she dried her eyes.

Greg was playing with the baby. “I have your results.”

“And.”

“The Vic was her mother and he was her father. They have thirteen markers in common.”

“She is an orphan. Her father killed her mother.” This kid has way too much in common with me. “I’m gonna take Jane home.” She pecked Grissom on the cheek and turned to leave. “I’ll see you at home.” She hollered back as she walked out.

CHAPTER 3
Grissom came home to find Sara sleeping in the big bed with the tiny infant. She looked so cute curled up in the bed protecting the small child. Grissom now knew she would make a wonderful mother; she had proved that with Jane. He hoped Social Services would see it that way too.

He stripped off and climbed into bed with her. She straightened out and curled into his chest. “I should take the baby to her bed.” She groggily replied.

“I’ll do it for you, sweetie, sleep.” Grissom picked up the small child and padded down the hall.

“Griss, I’m scared they are going to take her from me.” Sara whispered, as she stroked his bare chest.

“Sara you are amazing with her, I’m sure they will see that.”

She smiled. “Thanks, I appreciate that.”

“What? The truth?”

“No, your support.” I need you now more than ever.

“At least we are engaged now.”

Damn. Ring. I need to get her a ring. Today. “Yes we are. It will all be ok, I’m sure of it.”

“I’m going to call Social Services later today to set up another meeting in light of our new evidence. I need this little girl Grissom, she is almost me. Her father killed her mother. My mother killed my father. She needs me. I need her. I am living proof that dysfunction can breed good.”

He kissed her softly. “You will get her, I am sure.”

“Thanks.” She snuggled back into his chest and fell back to sleep with him for a few hours.

Sara got up a few hours later and dealt with the baby while Grissom slept. She decided to take her to the store to get her a few things while Grissom slept. She left him a note:

Griss,

Jane and I went shopping. We will be back later. Hope you slept well.

Love you
Sara & Jane

Grissom woke up to an empty bed. He got up, padded to the bathroom and then went to the kitchen for some coffee. He found the note and smiled. This would give him time to go get her a ring, plan a nice dinner and surprise her with both. He had the night off and he wanted to spend it with Sara and Jane.

Quickly getting dressed he headed out the door and down the strip. First stop, Jewellery store. He pulled up to the jewellery store and went inside. After finding a suitable ring, he went to get flowers to be delivered at a certain time as well as Sara’s favorite Chinese Food from her favorite place. Content he did all he could he hurried home hoping to beat Sara and Jane.

He was only in the door a few minutes when Sara returned home. “Griss, you up?”

“Yes sweetie, what can I help you with?”

“Can you get the packages out of the car, I need to put Jane down.”

“Sure thing.” He kissed her softly. “I’ll be right back.”

Sara went crazy buying things for the baby. He just hoped they would allow them to keep her. Sara cared for the baby so much. It would break her completely if they took her away now.

“Sara, sweetie, does the baby really need this much stuff?”

She smiled coyly. “Yes, yes she does.”

“Did you call Social Services?”

“Yes, they are coming tomorrow morning, will you be here?”

“Yes,” He pulled her against his chest. “I have tonight off, so do you.”

She smiled again. “You took tonight off?”

“No it just happened that way. I won’t complain about spending time with you and Jane.”

Sara kissed him softly. “You are so sweet. Will you approve maternity benefits for me if we adopt the baby?” She joked.

“Why wouldn’t I?”

“Just asking.”

The baby cried and Sara went to attend to her. Grissom put the stuff away clenching the small ring box in his pocket. He was beginning to get nervous, he didn’t know why, he just was. She had already agreed to marry him; she just didn’t have the ring.

He took the last of the stuff to the baby’s room; Sara sat rocking her in the rocking chair. “Need a bottle?”

Sara snapped back from her dream, “Um yeah, if you don’t mind.”

Grissom returned with the bottle and kept putting the baby’s stuff away. Sara put Jane down again after the baby was fed and she joined Grissom in the living room.

Sara sat down and rubbed her back. She wasn’t used to hauling around a baby all the time.

“Want me to rub that for you?”

“Would you mind?”

“Not at all. Lay back, I’ll make you feel better.”

Sara purred as he began to touch her. “Ooh, right here, yes that feels good.”

He finished rubbing her back just as the doorbell rang. “Who could that be?”

Sara got up, “I’ll get it.”

He smiled; he knew it was the flowers.

Sara opened the door, “Delivery for a Miss Sidle.”

Sara’s head shot up, “For me?”

“If you are Sara Sidle, yes. Please sign here.”

Sara did so and walked in the house carrying her package. “Griss, did you do this?”

He had his ‘who me’ look on his face.

She read the card and ran over and wrapped her arms around his neck. “You will be rewarded tonight for your thoughtfulness.” She whispered in his ear.

What’s she going to do when she finds out what else I got planned?

The doorbell rang again. Sara was shocked and excited all at the same time. She ran to answer it. It was Chinese take out from her favorite restaurant.

“You are good, Gil Grissom. When did you do all of this?”

“While you were out, but that’s not it, there is more too.”

“There is?”

“Yes, come sit with me for a second.”

Sara sat beside him on the couch. He took her left hand in his. He reached into his pocket with his free hand. “Sara, I asked you to marry me but I didn’t have a ring for you. I have changed that. I got this for you.” He opened the box and placed it on her finger, “I hope you like it.”

“It is amazing just like you.”

CHAPTER 4

The social worker arrived at promptly nine am. She was surprised to see Grissom awake. He explained that he had the night before off so he didn’t need to sleep.

They went over the case with her and the new evidence the crime lab had complied for them. The woman was surprised at the in-depth analysis they had done. They knew exactly what had happened based on the evidence.

“This is what we do,” Grissom added, “The evidence never lies.”

“In light of this new evidence regarding the child’s parents, we are offering her up for adoption. She has no viable relatives and her only living parent has been incarcerated.”

“To us?” Sara asked hesitantly.

“Yes to you, we just need you to fill out the appropriate paperwork. You have proven that you care for the child and she has no other family for her to be awarded to so are you still interested?”

“Yes!” Sara squealed.

“I thought you would be, so I brought the papers with me.”

Sara smiled as she filled them out. Jane was going to be theirs. She was going to be their baby. Sara was so happy she could barely contain her excitement.

The woman left them. They filled out the paper work to change her name to Grissom. Sara couldn’t remove the smile from her face.

“I need to go see Ecklie to fill out for maternity benefits. They are available to adoptive parents too. I did the research when I found her. I was optimistic.” Sara smiled.

“I’ll take you in, if you want.”

“I do want, lets go.”

Twenty minutes later they were standing in front of Conrad Ecklie filling out paperwork for maternity benefits for Sara. They had wanted their relationship to be low key; it was out to the whole lab now. It was no longer a secret.

“When Sidle is finished with her maternity leave we will certainly have to discuss this further.” Conrad spat at Grissom.

“Sure Conrad, whatever.” Grissom said as he walked out.

They went to introduce the baby to the rest of their friends.

“So this is the infamous Jane that Greg has been telling us about.”

Sara smiled. “Sure is.”

“Hey, Sara, if you ever need a baby-sitter, you know where to find me.” Greg interjected.

“I will remember that, thanks Greg.”

“That goes for me too.” Nick added. “She is some cute.”

Sara finished with the paper work and left with her new family.

“I think we need to get the baby some new furniture, what do you think?”

“I think that is a great idea, lets go.”

They returned home hours later with a new crib and change table for Jane. They wanted permanent furniture now that her stay was permanent. Sara watched as Grissom put the furniture together. She held the baby and rocked her as she watched Grissom.

Sara held her until he had the crib put together and she laid her down for her nap. Sara stood and watched her sleep for a while. She loved to watch her sleep.

She went over to look at the calendar, they had had her only a few days but it felt like forever. There was a bright red mark on the calendar nearly a week ago, Sara looked at it closely, I’m late? I’m never late. I have been like clockwork since I was thirteen? I couldn’t be? Could I?

Sara went to find Grissom. “Griss, I’m late.” Are we ready for this? We just got Jane.

“For what?”

“You know…. late.” Come on Griss.

“I’m confused.”

“I think I’m pregnant.” Wow, I did it!

His jaw dropped, “You are what?”

“Pregnant, my cycle is late, would you mind going to get me a test so that I can see for sure.”

He ran out quickly and returned as quickly. Sara did the test and they waited patiently for the results.

The timer went off and Sara went to retrieve it. Grissom was on her heels. It was pink.

“Congratulations, you are going to be a daddy, again.”

JANE EPILOGUE

Grissom looked around the room. He was pacing to ward off the nervousness that was growing in his stomach. In less than an hour you will be married you old coot. Definitely never thought you’d ever be here. I certainly wouldn’t have thought this day would ever come you foolish, foolish old man. You are just lucky that that girl never gave up on you. You should’ve done this years ago, it’s not that you didn’t have feelings for her, you loved her from the first day you met her, stupid, stupid man. You are so happy, to think you could’ve been so happy before this, why did you put yourself through this? YOU are just lucky Sara is patient and understanding. She is so special. She means so much . I bet she looks beautiful in a wedding gown.

Grissom looked into the floor length mirror. You clean up good! Damn! I think Sara will be pleased when she walks down the isle and sees you standing there on the alter waiting for her. Hopefully you won’t be grinning like a fool, for God’s sakes, don’t grin like a fool, Gil, people already think you are strange you don’t need to add fuel to that fire. At least you are marrying a girl. That will ward off the gay comments. That and the kids…wow children. I never thought in a million years I…Me… would ever have kids, I was holding out for Mrs. Right, yeah that is my excuse, who are you kidding? Sara is the only one you ever considered having children with. You were trying before Sara found Jane. Remember that? It seems like so long ago.

At two years old she is going to be the most beautiful flower girl I have ever seen. What…how many flower girls have I actually seen? I think I’m biased. That little girl is so precious; I love her more than life. She bonded with Sara immediately. I’m not sure what would have happened if Social Services would‘ve taken her away from us…from Sara. I don’t even want to think of it, it would have been awful, and it would’ve killed her. I remember the day like it was yesterday…

Yes I can remember that like it was yesterday. It was the happiest and the scariest day all wrapped into one...

“I think I’m pregnant.”

“Congratulations, you are going to be a daddy, again.”

AAh, yes…that was the day we found out she was pregnant with Joshua. I was so scared and happy all at the same time. I never thought I’d be cut out for ‘Dad’ material, but I don’t think I do badly. They kinda seem to like me. This is the happiest day of my life, I have two wonderful children and I am marring the woman I love, what more could a man ask for??? Joshua is going to be so cute in a tuxedo walking down the isle with Jane carrying the ring pillow. He grew up so fast. He is eighteen months old but they could pass for twins, they do everything together.

The door opened and Warrick stood before him. “They are ready for you man.”

Grissom took a deep breath and followed him out to stand on the altar he was wrought with anticipation. In a very few minutes you will be married…hitched to the woman you love.

Sara stood before the full-length mirror and admired her form as Catherine adjusted her veil. Never thought you’d ever be here Sidle. She looked to her right and took note of her two-year old child, her miracle child, the little girl whose life she saved, she inhaled deeply. I saved her life…she is so special to me. She looks so beautiful in the little blue gown with the flowers in her hair, she is going to be so cute walking down the aisle putting out flower petals as she walks, it will be a precious sight.

Damn Sara, you clean up good girl! I never thought you would ever see this day, standing before a floor length mirror in a wedding gown. I’m sure if Gil wouldn’t have smartened up and came around you would have never been here, you would never have gotten married…never have had children, you never have got to keep Jane. That would have been devastating. Thank God for Gil. He is so special. He is amazing with the children, far better than I even anticipated…I hope he is ready for this…for the wedding… for the children…and for this…she rubbed her belly under the wedding gown.

You doing ok in there? She whispered softly to her belly. I just hope daddy can handle this…four children…young children…I never thought two years ago that I would be getting married and having babies. Jane is a gift from God; I thank him daily for her. Joshua, my precious little Joshua…he gets more and more like Gil every day. He may only be eighteen months old but he is going to be just as stubborn as his father. I wonder what these two will be like? Gil or me? I never thought I’d ever see the day that I was pregnant for twins either. A mother just knows when she is pregnant and I know for sure there are two of you inside there. It is just a feeling I have. I wonder if you will be like me, have my dark hair and my gap-toothed grin, or be like Gil and have the cleft in your chin and his beautiful blue eyes. Maybe I will get both; maybe I will get a little girl who looks like me and a little boy who looks like Gil. I don’t really care as long as you both are healthy and happy that is really all a mother can ask for.

Catherine gently tapped her shoulder drawing her out of her trance, “Sara its show time.”

Sara brushed a tear away from her cheek as she walked out of the room.

Gil held his breath as the music began. He saw his daughter first. Dressed in a tiny blue gown running down the aisle dropping rose petals. Grissom laughed lightly at the sight. Joshua was at her heels carrying the small blue pillow. He looked so cute in the mini tuxedo. Catherine was next, dressed in the same color as Jane, just a bigger size. Catherine stood before Warrick in front of the altar. Grissom let the breath he was holding out and took another as Sara rounded the corner on the arm of Jim Brass.

I’m gonna pass out. Breathe Gil…breathe. You don’t need to pass out before you get married, breathe. She is beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Look all you want suckers, she is mine. He mentally boasted.

Sara stood on the altar, her hands in Gil’s. They were both oblivious of the ceremony; they both took their cues and couldn’t stop smiling. Grissom leaned in to kiss his new bride.

“Congratulations, you are going to be a daddy again,” Sara whispered in his ear, “twins this time.”
