Sniffing Down Under

Sara Sidle walked into the halls of the Las Vegas Crime Lab. She walked with an air of importance. She flipped her hair as she walked. She had gotten it cut recently and wore it down because she was told it was more flattering for her face. She was hoping it was going to work on that special someone.

She walked into Grissom’s office. Gil Grissom had always been somewhat of an enigma. Sometimes he was hot and Sara felt she was close to penetrating his hard outer shell and other days he was caged up, his feelings in isolation.

Sara had already asked him out, he turned her down. Recently things had gone too far. She got picked up for a DUI. Sara was surprise she hadn’t been called on it earlier. Brass was the only one who ever was clued in. He had always felt like a father figure to her, especially after not being close to her own father. She had finally confessed her secrets to Grissom one night when she was on the verge of both a mental breakdown and a career change. Grissom went to bat with Ecklie on her behalf. He had to have feelings for her; he wouldn’t have done that if he didn’t right? Sara was constantly trying to reassure herself.

“Hey Sara, what can I do for you?” Grissom asked.

“Nothing much.” Sara flipped her hair. “I just came in early to see if you needed a hand finishing up anything before we get started tonight.”

“Are you wearing perfume?” Grissom asked as he got up and approached Sara.

“No.”

“Then what do I smell?” He asked sniffing her. He started to sniff her neck.

“Probably my hair. I am trying out a new shampoo and new hair products.”

He sniffed her hair. “That smells amazing, what is it?” He asked as he took her hair in his hand and continued to smell it.

“It is Aussie. The smell is Kangaroo Paw Flower. Do you like it?”

“Yes. Very much so. I think I may have to stay away from you tonight, I am not sure if I can stand to smell you all night.”

Sara laughed. “Would you like me to wash my hair? I can shower here if you want.”

Sara naked and in a shower…all lathered up…glistening wet. Stop it Gil you are going to embarrass yourself.

“Um…er…no. That won’t be necessary.” Grissom said as he returned to his chair behind his desk. He was scared she would see his latest problem, his raging erection.

I have always expressed such control around Sara. I cannot believe that something as simple as shampoo has done this to me. What is wrong with me? He placed his head in his hands.

“Griss, are you alright?” Sara asked approaching him.

“I am fine. Please just let me be for a few minutes. Er…Um….”

“Migraine?”

“Yes. I’ll be out in a few minutes, just let me see if I can chase this away.”

“Sure. I’ll see you in a few.”

How am I going to get through tonight? Grissom thought to himself.

Sara walked back to the break room. I hope he is ok. He seems to be acting weird.

Sara stepped into the break room.

“Wow, nice hair.” Catherine chimed.

“Thanks, Cath.” Sara said shocked. Catherine never compliments me. I must be doing something right.

Grissom was in the doorway of the break room.

“I guess that is my cue to leave.” Catherine announced. Warrick and Nick followed.

“Feeling better Griss?” Sara asked.

“Yes thank you. I guess it was a false alarm.” He reached his hands in his pockets.

“So what have we got tonight, Boss man?” Greg asked.

Grissom pulled the slip of paper out of his pocket. “Only one. A smash and grab on the strip. You and Sara can work together. If you need me I’ll be doing paperwork.”

Greg snatched the paper from his hand. Sara stood up. He could smell that shampoo again.

“Have fun. If you need me, call me.” He walked away.

“What has got into him?” Greg asked.

“I’m not sure.” Sara admitted.

“Well let’s go.” Greg said walking out. “Sara, are you wearing perfume?”

“No, it is my shampoo. Grissom already asked me that.”

Maybe I should stop washing my hair with that for work. It seems to be too distracting. Who would have thought that shampoo of all things would have that much of an impact.

***

Grissom sat behind his desk. What is wrong with me? It is only shampoo. You haven’t had this happen to you before, not over shampoo. You are sober and you are acting like a horny teenager getting all randy over something like that.

He heard footsteps and looked up. “Hey Catherine.”

“Anything wrong, Gil?”

“No, just paperwork. You know how much I like that.”

“About as much as I do.” Catherine joked.

“What can I do for you?” Grissom asked.

“Nothing. I heard rumors you were suffering from a migraine.”

He nodded. “It is under control now.”

“Oh good. I know how they get you down.”

“Hey Cath.”

“What?”

“What type of shampoo do you use?”

Catherine was a bit shocked at his question. “I use the Redken ones my stylist recommended. Why?”

“No reason. What does it smell like?”

“Gil. What type of a question is that?”

“One I want answered. What does it smell like?”

“It smells like shampoo, lightly scented.”

“Ok. I have never smelled it before.”

“I could bring the bottle in if you prefer.” Catherine joked.

“That won’t be necessary.”

“I’m going to get back to work. I am soon off. Have a good night, Gil.”

“You too, Catherine.”

Catherine walked away. What was that all about? Shampoo? I guess he is weirder than I originally thought.

Grissom thought to himself. How come I have never smelled Catherine’s shampoo? She is a woman too. Why is it just Sara? Perhaps it is just Sara. She has that effect on me I guess. On one side I want to ask her not to wear it to work, but on the other I love to smell it. What am I going to do? DO they have doctors for this sort of thing?

Grissom walked through the lab. First person he ran into was Judy, the front desk attendant.

He leaned in to smell her hair.

“Can I help you with something Mr. Grissom?” She asked all befuddled.

“What type of shampoo do you use?”

She was confused. “Why?”

“Please answer the question. It is an experiment I am conducting.”

“Alright.” She was used to his experiments. “I use Dove.”

“That’s a shampoo?”

“Yes.”

“Ok. Thank You.” He walked away.

He entered the lab. Hodges was there.

“What type of shampoo do you use?” Grissom asked, sniffing the air.

“Why?”

“It is for an experiment.”

“Oh wow. And you want me to be a part of it?”

“I just want to know what type of Shampoo you use.” Grissom figured he should have thought before asking Hodges.

“I use Pert.”

“Thanks.” He scribbled it down and walked away.

Who else can I ask? What other women are there? Jackie, she should be around. Who else? I can ask Doc. Maybe he knows his wife’s brand. What about Greg? I can call him and ask him.

He went in search of Jackie. He found her in the other lab.

“Hey Grissom.” She said looking up from her microscope. “What can I do for you?”

“What type of shampoo do you use?”

She was a bit taken back by his question. “I use Alberto V05, why?”

“I am doing an experiment. Thanks.” He scribbled it down as he walked away.

Grissom walked down to the morgue to see Doc.

“Hey Gil, what brings you to my neck of the woods?”

“I have a question for you.”

“Ok, I am all ears.”

“Alright. Do you know what type of shampoo your wife uses?”

“Shampoo?”

“Yes, Shampoo.”

“She uses Prell, why?”

“Just asking. It is an experiment I am doing. What about you?”

“What do I use?”

“Yes.”

“Baby Shampoo, have for years.”

“Thanks.” He scribbled it down and began to walk away.

“Gil.”

“What?”

“I’d be interested to see your findings when you are done.”

“Sure.” He said not registering what was asked of him as he walked away.

He went back to his office.

Ok, so no one else uses that shampoo, just Sara. Who else can I ask? Greg. I will call him.

He picked up his phone and dialled the number.

“Sanders.”

“Hey Greg, how is it going?”

“Good. We are nearly done processing.”

“Great. Hey Greg, what kind of shampoo do you use?”

Why does Grissom want to know this? “Um Griss, why are you asking me this?”

“I’m doing an experiment. Come on Greg, please tell me.”

“I use Head and Shoulders.”

“But you don’t have dandruff.”

“Exactly. Did you want me to ask Sara?”

“No. No. That’s ok. I have enough data collected. Bye.”

Greg looked at the phone.

“Who was that?” Sara asked.

“Griss.”

“Oh. What did he want?”

“To know my brand of shampoo. Said it was an experiment.”

“Weird.”

“Yeah. Weirder than usual for Griss.”

Brass was in the doorway of Grissom’s office.

“Hey Gil. How is it going?”

“Good, why?”

“No reason.”

“Hey Jim. What type of shampoo do you use?”

“Breck, why?”

“Just asking.”

“Actually Gil that is why I am here. How long have we been friends?”

“More than ten years, why?”

“People are a bit worried about you. I got a call from Greg and from a few others, what is with the shampoo fascination?”

“I am doing an experiment.”

“To find out what?”

“About shampoos and their smells.”

“What prompted this?”

“I smelled a shampoo today.”

“Whose was it?”

“Nobody’s”

“Well it had to be somebody’s.”

“It is not important.”

“Sure it is. What did it smell like?”

“I can’t explain it. It was wonderful.”

“Gil, buddy. I think you need help.”

“I do not.”

“I think you need to talk to Phillip Kane.”

“I am fine. Really.”

“Then maybe you should talk to Sara.”

“Sara, why?”

“Come on Gil. How stupid do you think I am?”

Jim walked out.

I can’t face Sara here. Not at work. Her scent drives me insane. Maybe I will go to her house on my way home.

Grissom stood in front of Hairstyles Plus. The Salon outlet and opened the door to go inside.

“Hello, Sir.”

“Hello.” Grissom said. “I would like to smell some shampoo.”

“Excuse me?”

“I would like to smell some shampoo.”

“Sir that is an odd request.”

“I am aware of that, but I am looking for a specific kind. Can I please smell them?”

“I’m sorry Sir. I am going to have to ask you to leave.”

“I want to smell some shampoo.”

“Sir, please leave or I will have to call and get you removed.”

Grissom stormed out. What is it with people? I only want to smell shampoo. It’s not that weird, right?

Grissom walked to the drug store. He grabbed a cart and walked around the store. He put one of every kind of shampoo in the cart and went to pay for it.

The checker was confused but she ran him through. Grissom loaded the shampoo back into the cart and walked out the door. He walked behind the drug store and started going through bottles.

V05, that is what Jackie uses. He sniffed it and threw it into the dumpster. Nope, not that. What about Prell? He sniffed it and it landed into the dumpster. Nope, not that either. What about Dove?
He went through almost the whole cart when he saw the police pulling up.

“Hi officer.”

“Sir. What are you doing?”

“Sniffing Shampoo, why?”

“Um, sir. Can you come with us, please?”

“Why?”

“WE got a call that you were being disruptive.”

“Sniffing shampoo?”

“I guess. Is there someone I can call for you?”

“Yes. Jim Brass.”

“Oh I know Jim, are you a friend of his?”

“Yes. I am Gil Grissom.”

“The Gil Grissom?”

“The one and only.”

“I’ll call Jim and he can come get you and take you home.”

“What about my car?”

“My partner will drive it to your house. I’ll need your address.”

Grissom gave it to him and waited for Jim.

Jim arrived a few minutes later. “Gil, what are you doing?”

“Sniffing shampoo.”

“What are you going through? Are you stressed out? On the verge of burn out? I am worried about you.”

“Just take me home Jim.”

He did just that.

“Alright Gil. You are home. Promise me you will stay here and get some sleep.”

Grissom crossed his fingers in his pockets. “I promise.”

He walked to the door and pretended to unlock it until Jim pulled away. He ran to his car and jumped in. He drove to Sara’s apartment.

He found the dumpster for her apartment building and began to go through it. He was looking for empty shampoo bottles. The next thing he knew he smelled it and fell to the ground.

“Oh God. Grissom, I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to hit you. What are you doing here? Why were you going through my dumpster?”

He was very incoherent. Sara helped him up and then inside. She helped him out of his shampoo drenched shirt and on to the couch. She took a towel and wiped most of the shampoo off of him.

Sara ran to get dressed as he lay there. When she returned he was coming to.

“Grissom, what were you doing?” Sara asked.

“I was trying to smell your shampoo.”

He took her hair and sniffed it.

“Why?”

“It has been driving me crazy since you were in my office earlier.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

“SO you mean if I used this shampoo years ago I would have perked your interest then?”

“I guess so.”

“If I had known it was that easy.” Sara laughed.

“I didn’t know either. What is in your shampoo?”

“Kangaroo Paw Flower, why?”

“Just wondering. Is it a known aphrodisiac?”

“No, why.”

“It is now.” He grinned.

“I think you need to shower.” She said helping him sit up.

“I know somebody covered me in shampoo.”

“Well somebody thought somebody else was a burglar.”

“Fair enough.”

“I’ll give you a robe and wash your clothes for you while you are in the shower.”

“Why don’t you join me?”

“Are you serious?”

“Very.”

“Grissom, I don’t know what to say.”

“Say you will join me. That way I won’t need a robe.”

“What are you insinuating?” Sara asked.

“That we shower together as the foreplay and then after we finish I take you to bed.”

“Grissom!”

“What? Tell me you aren’t thinking it.”

“I can’t.” Sara admitted.

“Exactly. So what do you say?”

“I just showered.”

“So, you can make sure I am clean.” He cooed.

“But I need to sleep, I haven’t slept yet.”

“Me either. WE can sleep later. We can even call in sick. Brass thinks I am on the verge of a mental breakdown. I got hauled out of the drugstore for sniffing shampoo.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

“Alright Grissom, you win.”

“Great. I can’t wait.”

Sara turned on the water and slowly disrobed herself and stepped inside. The warm steam hit her body for the second time in so many minutes. Grissom soon joined her.

His touch felt like fire. Sara never imagined she would be naked in a shower with Gil Grissom. TO think, all it took was shampoo.

Grissom took the bath poof and lathered up and began to wash Sara. Sara was already clean but she didn’t protest. She savoured the feel of him washing her skin.

She turned around to face him. She could see the feral passion in his eyes. The pools of blue were full of love and desire. She couldn’t resist, she had to kiss him.

She planted her hands on his wet chest and attacked his lips. She kissed him long and hard. She had wanted it for so long and now she had finally got her wish.

Grissom broke the kiss to breathe. Sara took the bath poof from him and began to wash him. He didn’t protest. She took her time savouring every minute of it.

“Sara.” Grissom said in his most relaxed voice.

“What Griss?”

“Will you wash my hair…with your shampoo?”

Sara giggled as she lathered up the shampoo in her palms and rubbed it in his hair. He moaned as she did so.

Oh My. Is he getting off on this?

She looked down at his erection growing and growing.

I think he is. Oh god.

Sara rinsed him off and shut off the water. He kissed her hard as his hands were on her body. They walked together to the bedroom and collapsed onto the bed. They even forgot about towels. Towels didn’t matter just the desire that needed to be fulfilled.

They were on the bed, kissing, touching and tasting. They became one and it was like nothing either had ever experienced before. They collapsed into a tangled mess of wet sheets and sweaty bodies.

Soon they succumbed to sleep.

Grissom woke up in the morning and could smell nothing but Sara’s hair. It was on his chest as she slept. He took it to his nose and sniffed it. It smelt so good.

Sara woke up to Grissom sniffing her hair.

“I’m glad you like my shampoo, Griss.” Sara groggily replied.

“Why is that?”

“I think it would probably take you forever to come around.”

“I just didn’t have the push I needed.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes it is.” She kissed him softly. “Grissom, I have a confession.”

“What is that?” He asked as he wrapped his arms around her.

“Kangaroo Paw Flower is a known aphrodisiac in Australia.”
