The first time I loved forever

Catherine woke up in the morning and lay there looking at her love, her husband. As she stroked his face, he smiled and opened his eyes as he gathered her into his strong arms and placed a loving kiss on her forehead.

"Morning my love, how are you?" vincent asked his new bride
"I'm am happy, more happier than I have ever been. This is a brand new day and our life together as we have dreamed of all this time begins here and now. I need to keep pinching myself to check it's all real and I am not dreaming, You make me feel so cherished, vincent. I love you with all my heart body and soul." she said kissing him

He kissed her back and they lay in each others arms staring and caressing each other.

"We need to go and have a bath, my love" he said softly
"All the way back in the bathing chamber?" catherine asked curiously
"No, I thought of the hot springs, it's in the next cavern" said vincent

"I had no idea there was a hot springs here?" said catherine astonished as she leaned on her good shoulder.

Vincent nodded and told catherine mouse had discovered it two days ago

"Well then what are we waiting for?" she said jumping out of bed
"Hell if I know my love" he chuckled as they both put their clothes on and walked hand in hand to the next cavern.

They were on their way there when catherine suddenly felt very dizzy and leaned up against the wall to steady herself.

"What's wrong my love?" vincent asked panicking holding her hand

"Vincent, I don't know....know?" she felt a wave of nausea and was hot all of a sudden as she lurched forward with her hand over her mouth. Vincent lifted her hair out of her face as she was sick on the cavern floor. Vincent started to really panic and worry about his beautiful wife, when she had finished he sat down and pulled her back to his chest slowly as her dizzy spell passed. She passed out and vincent started crying as he picked her up and ran back to father.

As people saw vincent carrying his new bride back to his father running as fast as he could. They all started worrying about catherine.


"Father! She was just walking with me to the hot springs and she felt faint and sick and she just passed out when she had finished!" said vincent in tears as he laid her on the couch.

Father rushed over and felt her head, she was boiling hot! Vincent saw the alarm on his father's face. "Father, what is wrong with her?" he asked urgently

"Vincent, go and get me a cool face cloth and I shall do a few tests. It's no good panicking. I have my suspicions but I can't elaborate until I know for sure." said jacob

"Yes, father I shall" he ran off and came straight back with an ice cold cloth. He gently placed the cloth on her head and she instantly woke from the shock of the cold on her hot skin.

"Vincent, what is wrong?" she asked her beloved husband as she caressed his cheeks.
"Oh catherine, I was so scared for you." he said as he embraced her
"My beautiful husband, I love you, but I am ok now, truly" she said smiling.

She tried to sit up but jacob made her lay back down.

"You, young lady will lay back down if you know what's good for you. Now I have a rather personal question to ask." Vincent moved aside for him still stroking her hand softly. Catherine blushed and nodded

"when was your last menstrual cycle?" he asked gently
"It was....was just before vincent and I made love" she said quietly
"I see and have you been exhausted a lot more than usual my dear?" he said not wishing to embarass her further.

"Yes, but I thought it was because of the gunshot and bloodloss, I thought I was a little anaemic and needed to ask you to prescribe some iron vitamins....why?" she looked at both vincent and father as she tried to figure out the diagnosis.

"You think I'm pregnant don't you, father?" she said adding it all up
"Well, we can't know for sure until you do a pregnancy test. I have kept a stock of them luckily for the other spouses in the tunnels. Yes I think i will send you along with mary to do a test." said jacob

Vincent sat there quietly knowing he was responsible for catherine getting sick. And apparently his wife could read him like a book because she said gently "Vincent, I know what you are thinking my love and none of this is your fault, I love you with all my heart and if fate has decided for us then so be it. I can think of nothing better than to show my complete love for you by giving you this precious gift of life." she wrapped her arms around him to reassure him and he embraced her with tears of Joy and happiness.
"Oh, my beautiful catherine, I love you so much....so much" he kissed her and rested his head against hers.

"Right, no time like the present to find out if you two are going to be parents." he gave catherine the testing strip and beckoned her to go with mary.

"Vincent, Are you alright, my son" asked jacob

"I don't know father, it's strange how catherine got pregnant when she was taking the contraceptive every night. I know because I have been with her every night virtually"
said vincent

"I was wondering if you are that fertile that catherine is right about fate taking this decision out of both your hands" Just then catherine and mary came rushing in.

Jacob took the strip out of her shaking hands and looked at it. His mouth dropped open and then he smiled as he nodded at both of them sitting there nervously.

"Well, looks like you are going to be parents in about eight and a half months"

Vincent and catherine both let out the breath they had been holding looked at each other for a moment and then vincent was twirling catherine in his arms crying with happiness.

jacob chuckled as he watched the happy scene unfold and mary clasped her hands together
before congratulating them both with hugs.

"I'm going to be a father....a father" he gazed at catherine with so much tenderness and brought her mouth slowly down to his forgetting they had an audience

"Hm...Hmmmm" coughed jacob

"Oh sorry father" said vincent a bit sheepishly and grinned
"Right, catherine, I have to prescribe you some folic acid and some pre-natal vitamins also when you move your items from your apartment to below. The helpers will do the heavy lifting. If I even get a hint that you are moving heavy things I will put you on bed rest for the duration of your pregnancy, understand hmmmm" he patted her hand and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"I understand father" she giggled
"Don't worry, father, I will make sure she takes it easy" said vincent as he put his hand on fathers shoulder and gave it a squeeze

Mary got a hug from catherine and the two lovers walked hand in hand towards their new destiny together.
