Chapter Eight

You light the skies, up above me
A star, so bright, you blind me, yeah
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t fade away, don’t fade away

--Take That

The witch queen was taking her time as she sipped her yummy Strawberry Blush. The chicken she had eaten was quite good, but it had not been the best. She was seriously thinking about turning all the workers into frogs and having herself some fried frog legs. That would sure learn them to serve food that was not just good, but excellent. At least the juice was good. That was their only saving grace from her fickle wrath.

“May I take your plate,” Lana asked as she walked up to the witches’ table.

The witch queen gestured with a smile and nodded. The food might not have been that great, but at least the service around this place was.

“Was everything to your liking, Miss,” Lana asked as she placed the bill on the corner of the table.

“Very,” the witch queen lied like a pro, “It was wonderful, my dear.”

Lana beamed, “Then please come again.”

The witch queen watched her walk away and grinned evilly. That girl was too pretty for her own good. She was just about to make her break out into pimples when her enchanted ring began to glow. She dramatically rolled her molten amber orbs. What could her sisters possibly want now? Couldn’t they see that she was having fun?

Kyle kicked off his shoes and plopped down on Clark’s bed to look over at him sitting at his desk.

“What are you doing,” he asked.

“My algebra homework,” Clark said turning to look at him, “I thought I would try and get it done before I have to go finish my chores.”

Kyle nodded and lied down on his side to watch him. Clark looked so serious when he was concentrating. It made him smile because it was so cute.

“What’s algebra,” he asked.

Clark was suddenly beside him with the book in his lap, “This.”

Kyle listened to him explain and it was all rather fascinating really. All the letters and numbers were being combined to form some kind of equation that was the answer to the problem.

He watched Clark work out the equations and listened to him explain the process as he did so. He loved how easy the formula to solve the equations was to follow. If only the matters of the heart could be so simple. It was an equation that no one could solve.

He watched Clark for a few more minutes and then decided to play a little game. He wanted Clark’s arms around him.

Clark was sitting up with his back against the headboard while working on his algebra. Kyle playfully yawned and hunkered down to lay out beside him. He wrapped an arm around Clark’s thigh and closed his eyes while resting his face against the bigger boy’s side.

Clark pretended that everything was okay. He was going to do his homework and not think about how hot Kyle was. He was not going to think about that luminous arm, draped across his thigh or about that handsome face resting against his side. He was going to do his homework like a good alien.

Fifteen minutes later, Clark could not hold is concentration anymore. There were just too many internal and external forces distracting him from his task.

“Kyle,” he whispered as he sat his large book down in the floor, “Kyle?”

Kyle did not move.

Clark started to play with his dark hair. He loved how soft and shiny the hair was. Kyle had really pretty hair. It was the kind of hair that many would kill to possess. It was as soft as starlight.

Kyle nuzzled closer to his warmth and sighed in his pretend sleep. It made Clark smile and he slid down the headboard so he could cuddle up next to him.

Kyle now had his head resting on top of Clark’s chest and was listening to his strong heartbeat. It was a heartbeat unlike any other…he was sure of it. It was pure and powerful.

Clark wrapped his arms around Kyle and smiled when the smaller man began to glow with silver beams that just seemed to radiate from deep within him. The silver light made shadows dance all around the room. It was mesmerizing.

He listened to Kyle’s beating heart and it was like some kind of strange magic. It had the beat of some kind of song he could not think of. His heart was an enchanting song that sung out with every beat that it took.

Kyle smiled. His heart wanted to belong to this man. All Clark had to do was ask for it.

Before Clark knew what he was doing, he had kissed Kyle on top of the head.

Kyle’s aqua blue eyes opened and he smiled radiantly. His quickly closed them and twinkled brightly in Clark’s gentle arms.

The witch queen stormed out of the Talon in a huff. Her sisters were so bloody impatient. The two younger witches had done a divination. The star was twenty-seven miles north from where she was now. All she had to do was find it. If she was patient, the star might just fall right into her lap. Oh, this was getting exciting.

She got in her car and decided to find a place to set up base. She missed the comforts of her home.

She could not wait to carve out his heart and be in her true youth and glory once more. The Lilim will rule for always.

She threw her head back and cackled as she sped away.
