Gone But Not Forgotten
Mixie sat up in her bio bed screaming out Dukat’s name. She looked around wildly, her expression one of a certain amount of horror. It wasn’t until after several moments that she realized that she wasn’t in the cave or, in fact, on the planet. The grey and blue hues of sickbay stared blankly at her as she saw three other bio beds lining the wall, the other woman sleeping soundly on one of them. She saw Doctor Bashir step into the room, his thin profile, dark bronze skin and dark thick hair was easily recognizable by a constant resident of Deep Space Nine. “Miss Bridges, are you alright?” He came to her quickly, his dark brows furrowed in concern and placed a hand on her arm. After a moment, Mixie nodded slowly.
“Where am I?” She asked quietly and slowly swung her feet over the edge, despite the look of disapproval on his face. “The Defiant. We rescued you and this other woman about an hour ago.” He informed her and helped her into a chair after it was clear that she wasn’t going to be staying in that bed. He sat down across from her and gave her a kind smile.
“Captain Sisko wants to speak to you, if you are able?” Mixie nodded at his question and watched as he got up and went to the door, where Sisko waited outside. She gave Sisko a tired smile as he came in and stood comfortably next to the bio bed. He gave her a nod, his dark chocolate, bald head reflecting the artificial lights in sickbay. “How are you feeling?” He asked, his arms comfortably folded in front of him.
Mixie nodded. “Tired, but relieved to be back.” She said with a nod and swallowed. Before Sisko could continue, she answered what she knew he really wanted to know about. Benjamin Sisko and Dukat never got along, they were enemies because of who Sisko was and because Dax had been such a close friend of Sisko’s.
“Dukat is dead. He died shortly after we crashed there.” She said and looked at him. “The first time I tried to escape, he caught me. They have these…pits there, they have a very strong acid in them that they use to dispose of their trash. It works really well, it even dissolves metal. Anyway, he caught up with me and there was a struggle. I managed to trip him and send him into it.” She paused here and breathed in, a frown on her face. “The commotion, though, had gotten the attention of the inhabitants and they held me prisoner. I was just able to escape.” She explained and didn’t have to act out the part. She was thoroughly exhausted.
Sisko nodded after a few moments and surveyed her. She looked truly terrible, so he didn’t doubt that she would lie about it. Besides, she didn’t like Cardassians either. “Alright, get some sleep.” He said with a nod before looking to Bashir. “I doubt that there would be any remains, but we’ll come back when this storm clears up.” Bashir gave a nod and Mixie watched as Sisko left again. She didn’t say anything for a few moments.
“Where are we going, back to Deep Space Nine?” She asked and relaxed in the chair slightly, letting out a breath. The fact that she didn’t have to fight with herself anymore was a relief, but she felt a great sadness too and wasn’t sure how she’d stop it from consuming her.
“Yes, Deep Space Nine is closer. It’ll give you time to recuperate. It had to have been a rough experience.” Bashir had a sympathetic tone and Mixie only nodded. What was rougher was leaving.
“Oh, by the way,” Mixie cracked her eyes open and looked at the doctor. “You didn’t loose the baby or anything. So far it looks like the fetus is growing very well.” He gave her a smile, but it faded when Mixie gave him a blank look. “You…didn’t know…” Mixie slowly got up, her eyes having widened slightly. “Baby?” She looked at him a little disbelievingly, which made the handsome young man shift uncomfortably. He didn’t have to verify the information for when Mixie stood up, it was obvious that she grasped hold of the new information.
Slowly getting up, Mixie walked to the windows, a unique inclusion on the Defiant, and gazed out as the stars went by in bright stripes. She laid her hands on her abdomen and a small smile touched her lips.
A/n: So, do you like it? Please leave reviews for me as they are highly appreciated. Also, I was thinking about writing a sequel, if you think it's worth it, please leave a review and let me know!
