Chapter 10
Thank you, Thank you for all the wonderful reviews. See below for answers to your questions (if asked and it won’t be revealed later in the fic) as well as special thanks to everyone who reviewed.
I did write this in kind of a hurry. I’m moving but this scene demanded to be played out so here it is. Enjoy!
Dr. Gaius Baltar, renowned scientist and current Vice President of the Twelve Colonies, sat at the small terminal watching the footage recently acquired from the abandon Cylon base. He had used his title as Cylon Expert to obtain the footage as well as the needed equipment to watch it from Lt. Gaeta.
Mesmerized by the images of his Cylon lover’s doppelganger, he continued to replay the brief glimpses of the unknown woman amazed at the physical similarities but also astounded by the obvious differences. This woman was wearing a form of military jumpsuit with no obvious signs of rank and no hint of the amazing body that he knew was hidden. Instead of soft light curls framing the strong attractive face as Six, it was pulled harshly back. As further evidence that this woman was not interested in how she appeared, she wore atrocious looking glasses that seemed to large for her face. The way she stood and moved was vastly different. While Six’s every move and mannerism seemed to be in the purpose of attracting the attention of the male of the species, this…Earthling moved without any such intent.
Gaius froze and enlarged the image so the screen was completely overtaken by the image of her face. At first not realizing his actions, Gaius began to gently caress the cheek of the image.
At the sounds of soft humming, Gaius quickly withdrew his hand and turned off the screen, erasing the image of the woman. He turned quickly around expecting to find the individual partially responsible for his current fascination.
Several officers passed the open doorway but no phantom lover appeared. He stood up and walked to the open door glancing down the hallway. The humming continued as Gaius attempted to follow the sound that no one else responded to.
He soon realized that he was approaching the corralled section where the Earthlings and their ship were being housed. But as he approached the two officers that stood before the door that opened into the hanger bay, he realized that the humming continued further down the hall.
Ignoring the odd glances from the two guards, he continued further down the hall. The area he was in was still restricted but because he had already passed the hanger bay, no one was in sight.
As he came to a sharp corner, he noticed a room with its door open and a soft light coming through the threshold. Gaius glanced around to be sure no one was watching before he entered the room.
The room was a standard on the Galactica but had obviously been modified to be a temporary medical room. He recognized many of the contraptions that were being used for the Earthlings still caged within the pods.
Before he could continue his investigation for the continuing song, he was startled by Dr. Cottle came through a partition splitting the room in half.
“Dr. Baltar.” The older gentlemen greeted a lit cigarette ever-present in his hand.
Gaius cleared his throat momentarily and with quick thinking he returned the greeting. “Dr. Cottle…I…I was told you would be here and I wanted to get an update on the condition of…the young lady that you were treating.’ He paused for a moment. ‘For President Roslin…of course.”
Dr. Cottle gazed at him as he raised his cigarette to his mouth. Gaius watched the lit item as it seemed to disregard the laws of gravity while Dr. Cottle flipped several pages over from a clip board.
“She’s good. She doesn’t seem to be suffering any ill-effects from her imprisonment or her brief moment of lucidity. Actually she has woken up several times but only for seconds at a time. I’ve cut down on her sedation and expect her to wake up any moment.”
While Dr. Cottle continued his statement on the women’s condition, Gaius realized that the humming which had never ceased was coming from behind Dr. Cottle and within the area that was obscured from his vision.
He interrupted the older man. “Good…good. Um, may I see her?”
Dr. Cottle raised his head and looked at the disheveled man before him. He noticed the nervous nature of Dr. Baltar’s movements but since there wasn’t a time he had seen the man without the mannerism, the old doctor simple shrugged.
“Actually, you have perfect timing. I was just on my way to notify the Commander that our Earthling should be awake very soon. Watch her for me.” Without further words, he walked over to the man and handed him the clipboard and walked out of the room.
Gaius watched the retreating back before turning his gaze back to the white cloth that separated him from the Earthling and the humming he now knew came from behind it.
With slight trepidation, Gaius parted the sheet and entered the second half of the room. A single bed stood in the middle of the room surrounded by simple monitoring devices. He could see a few wires connecting the machines to the small form that lay on the bed. The steady beeping signaling the strong rhythm of a heartbeat. Next to her perched daintily off the side of the bed was his current specter lover, Six in the red dress that enhanced her soft curves to its maximum affect.
He watched as Six raised her hand and as if to gently move back a few strands of wayward curls, she passed her hand over the side of the Earthlings face all the way humming a tune that remained mysterious. He realized that even though the action was meant to sooth and comfort, no physical touch actually occurred.
Making sure the curtains were firmly closed behind him, he walked briskly towards the two women. A million questions raced through his mind before settling on one.
“Boomer…Valerii. She said that there were eight Cylon agents among the fleet. They know of one but why haven’t they found the others now that they know what to look for.”
Six ignored the question as she continued to hum and repeat her previous actions.
Gaius moved closer. “Where are they?”
The humming stopped as Six stood, her body brushing up against his. “How do you know she wasn’t lying, Gaius?’ She raised her hand and brushed his own hair away from his face, mimicking the same action she had done with the woman. ‘How do you know she just didn’t pick a number so you would save her precious Chief?” She whispered.
Gaius closed his eyes for a moment, reveling in the simple touch of his lover before directing his gaze at the taller woman. “There isn’t eight?”
Six smiled as she leaned forward to kiss him softly on his lips.
“There are more?”
Another kiss.
“Less?”
Another kiss before Six drew back. “I think the more important question should be…is why twelve, Gaius?”
He was momentarily confused before realizing the redirection of the questions.
“Well…because that was how many were aboard the ship?” He attempted to answer.
Six shook her head slowly. “Watch.” She said mysteriously before leaning forward to kiss him more deeply.
Gaius closed his eyes with the kiss. Falling into the feelings evoked by the caress of her lips against his, all questions fled his mind.
At the sudden loss of the feeling of her lips, Gaius opened his eyes. He blinked for several moments surprised by the sudden change in his environment.
Instead of the tranquil images of his home on Caprica like he would expect when these changes in scenery occurred, he was somewhere vastly different. Six stood before him no longer wearing the dress he so loved but a black trench coat that ended at her upper thighs which wore white trousers matching the hints of the blouse beneath the coat.
He looked around him and realized he was currently standing within the ship found on the abandon Cylon base.
“What is this?” He asked the woman standing before him.
She smiled. “Watch, Gaius.”
Before he could ask anymore questions, the ship was suddenly filled with humans and Cylons alike, fighting with the machines clearly winning. He instantly recognized that what he was currently seeing was a replay of the footage that he had been watching moments before.
As the fighting drew closer, he moved backwards quickly to avoid the yelling and firing humans and the machines approaching. None of the other occupants of the ship recognized his presence nor the presence of the female Cylon that stood in middle and amongst the fight. He watched amazed as the events took place exactly as the footage had shown but not a single round or passing machine registered to the unmoving Six.
The humans were quickly incapacitated and Gaius saw the Cylons pick up each one and begin the trek out of the ship before the image froze.
He turned back to the approaching Six and as she drew to a stop in front him, he asked “I don’t understand. This is not anything I haven’t seen before…well except for being there…here.”
Six smiled secretively. “You weren’t watching, Gaius.”
As if a button had been pushed, the image reversed back to where it had begun and than began again. Realizing that he was missing something, he attempted to find that which Six hinted of. Finally, Six grasped the sides of his head and turned it towards the catwalk where four of the humans including the young woman he was supposed to be watching stood. The large man in the middle yelled an order and Alexis ran down the catwalk towards an open hatchway.
Gaius gasped as he watched her stumble into another male. Not understanding the words she yelled, he watched Alexis run pass the man. The stranger, a slightly older gentleman, looked at the battle taking place with absolute horror on his features before he turned around and disappeared into the same hallway Alexis had took.
“There was a 13th?” In a blink, Gaius had returned to the makeshift hospital room with Six standing before him, her hands still grasping the sides of his head. “Why isn’t he in one of the pods….where…where is he?”
Six’s eyes quickly changed from the gentle blue to a cold silver steel. “He was a traitor, Gaius.’ Like liquid her eyes returned back to their natural color. She gave a little sarcastic smile. “And we both know what happens to traitors.”
He had only seen that look a few times since knowing the woman…machine before him and each time chills raced through his body.
A rustling of cloth drew his attention away from the blonde and towards the bed. He gasped as the formerly unconscious woman was sitting on the side of the bed, watching him with a very confused but equally amused look on her face.
‘Okay, it’s officially. I’m in the funny farm.’ Alexis thought as she watched the stranger standing off to one side of the room speak to thin air. She grimaced as his eyes closed and his mouth opened with slight peeks of a thrusting tongue. Than his eyes opened but had lost all clarity for several seconds and than just as quickly clarity returned. She tried to move off the bed without alerting the wacko as he returned to speaking to the air in front him. As she realized her mistake, she observed the man spotting her actions before whipping around like a live wire before setting his sights on her.
‘Uh…Oh. This isn’t good.’
AN: Sorry for the short chapter. Like stated above, I’m currently moving and have been incredibly busy. If it weren’t for the plot bunnies demanding that I write this, it may have been another week or so before getting it out to you. I will have a much longer chapter for you the next update…promise.
Thanks again for all the lovely reviews. Please…please keep them coming. They help feed the plot bunnies and stimulate their little brains to come up with more good stuff.
Sorry about the length of the AN but several questions and comments were submitted in the reviews that I thought needed to be addressed. But please don’t let it stop asking questions. It actually helps the story line…believe it or not.
A special thanks to Lily Cat, Aleja21, Amy (The Caffeine Addict), Deb1, DarkFinder, Jess, and Airam4u for taking the time to review. Also special thanks to the following reviewers:
DarkLight: OMG, don’t guess. LOL! You’ll force me to change everything in order to keep up the suspense. You are just too close for your own good, Lol.
Fezick31: Thanks. If you’ve read my CSI story, you’ll know that I’m really big on ‘flashbacks’ lol. One little back story that was supposed to be really short turned out to be several chapters long. There’s alot more back story in order to explain how the ‘Earthlings’ arrived on the Cylon Base. I hope that it lives up to your expectations. Sorry if I give too much away before necessary, I’m just so excited about this story and I’m not one to curb my enthusiasm. Lol.
Starbuck042786: Welcome to the world of fan fiction. If you are anything like me, it was quite a surprise to stumble across. You naughty girl. There may be more of what your looking for much later in this story but it will be awhile. Please be patient and enjoy the suspense leading up to it. Lol. I wouldn’t exactly call it original but I do think it was pretty clever of me. Thanks.
Falcon-Rider: It just made sense not to have them speak the same language. I was going to do so much more (as I stated in an earlier Author’s Note) but than decided just the language barrier would be enough.
Shelly: I’m so glad it’s an original idea. And no, Alexis is one of the models the Galactica hasn’t seen yet. At the end of the chapter, there will be a list of the Earthlings. Unknowns will be listed along with their ‘Earth’ name. For the Cylons we do know, I’ll list the name we do know them by and if necessary where we first saw them.
EvilClone: I always look forward to your reviews. To answer your question, neither character knows what the other is saying. I tried to show what both are saying to avoid confusion to the reader. Anything in italics has something to do with Alexis or any other ‘Earthling’. I’m sorry I didn’t make it more distinctive, unfortunately fanfictiondotnet doesn’t allow for much distinction (otherwise I would probably color code it or something lol). And no, I’m sorry it isn’t a crossover fic. I don’t know SGA enough to even attempt to make it a crossover. The six unknowns are all original characters. Though that would be an interesting story (hint hint to the SGA fan writer lol).
LeafsFan2003 & Raina: I’m an idiot. Lol, I must have checked Kara’s rank first and for some reason thought her and Lee shared the same rank. Lee was not demoted, he still has his rank of Captain. I’m sorry for the confusion and thanks for correcting it otherwise he would be Lieutenant for the whole story.
Randy Montalbo: I thought about that after I realized that there were only 12 Cylon models and almost went with it. But than came up with a better more significant explanation on why there was 12. However, your review gave me an idea and ultimately helped answer one of my own questions on where this plot was going. So double thanks and hope you’ll like the addition.
As for the configuration of the pods, I’m picturing them about 6 feet long, 4 feet wide and about 4 feet in height. The base and sides are made of metal while the top is seamlessly attached and is made up of either glass or a Plexiglas material. The liquid inside is actually more gelatinousness in nature than like water. This denser liquid allows the person inside to float…suspended in the middle so that no skin actually touches the solid surfaces (kinda like the fruit in Jello lol). My mom was once training to be a nurse and she brought home a book regarding bedsores. You get bedsores if you lay in one particular position over a length of time. Some were just nasty and can be quite serious. I was about 10 or 11 when I saw the book and it made quite an impression on me and I remembered that little tidbit so I thought up the denser liquid in order that the Earthlings don’t suffer from this. Also, heat would transfer much slower in this thick liquid so I would think that the short time that it was in contact with the torches it wouldn’t have fazed the person inside so much. Does that make sense? If not, please let me know and I’ll try harder to explain it.
Morgana: Finally, someone who can tell me if that was right or not. I actually searched the web for over an hour trying to find a medication that would suit this particular scenario and all I found were anti-seizure medication for epileptics and only in the oral supplements. Finally, I gave up and picked one. I’ve made a note to correct that in the future and please…please let me know of any other procedures I should be aware of. I like to be as accurate as possible. I always wanted a PDR for a reference book but there so expensive and I wouldn’t use it enough to make it worth while. So I’m very glad to hear from someone who does.
Sobee1982: Totally understand about the withdrawal. I’m saving all my pennies so I can purchase the first season DVD though the 3rd season will probably start before I can afford it lol. What a great compliant. I’m so glad that you are enjoying the fic and feel that I’m doing a good job in characterization. I don’t know about bringing any other characters in at least not in any length. There are so many to keep track of as is (I completely forgot about Boomer for a few chapters) but I’ll try to at least include them in a few scenes. Hope you continue to enjoy!
You got this far…so please take a moment and review. Thanks.

There are so many to keep track of as is (I completely forgot about Boomer for a few chapters) but I’ll try to at least include them in a few scenes. Hope you continue to enjoy!
You got this far…so please take a moment and review. Thanks.
