ch 9

Sara unlocked the door and ran inside and straight to the bathroom. The contents of her lunch stared back at her from the toilet.

“Sara, are you ok?” Grissom asked from outside the door.

“Peachy.” She huffed.

Peachy? What does she mean by that?

“Sara, what’s wrong?”

She didn’t answer. This is bad. How could we be so stupid? I guess we were asleep, but even still, we should have known better, now what? DO I tell him? DO I keep it from him? He is just getting used to Sam, he won’t react well.

She paced in the bathroom oblivious to Grissom’s knocking on the door. She was having a mental conversation with herself.

He was upset when Amanda didn’t tell him about Sam; I could never do that to him. I have to tell him. The decision was made.

Sara opened the door and stepped out. She could see the worry in Grissom’s eyes.

“Where’s Sam?” Sara asked.

“Asleep, why?”

“Just asking. We need to talk.”

Oh no! She is going to leave me. How can I do this without her, I need her.

“Listen, Sara. I can’t do this without you, I’m not used to Sam yet, please don’t leave me.” He pleaded.

“Oh Griss. I’m not leaving you. I have…I mean we have a problem.”

He looked perturbed as she spoke. What problem did they have? Was it their new arrangement?

“Sara, if you want to cease our arrangement I will understand.”

“It’s a little late for that.” Sara mumbled low.

“What’s that?”

Sara led him to the sofa to sit down and took his hand.

“Griss, I’m not sure how you are going to react to this.”

“What Sara?”

“Um…err…um.”

“Please Sara.”

“If my calculations are right, we may have a problem.”

“What is this alleged problem you keep talking about?”

Sara took a deep breath.

“Grissom, I think…I think that I am pregnant.”

“What? How?”

“I knew better than to tell you this. I’ll just leave.” She stood up.

He reached for Sara. “I didn’t mean that. Come sit back down.”

Sara sat back down.

“So how did this happen? We are careful.”

“When we are awake, yes.” Not so much when we are asleep. I wonder if it has happened more than once.

“Oh, I forgot about that. I’m so sorry, Sara.”

“It is as much my fault as yours.”

“Do you know for sure?”

“Well I didn’t take a test, but it would make sense.”

“But how do you know for sure?”

“Griss, I have another secret.”

“You do?”

“Yes. When I was in college, I got pregnant. I had the baby and gave her up for adoption.”
