part 9
Part 9/?
Mulder POV
Requesting the time off wasn't a problem.
Scully, though, did not like the idea of my taking off with Krycek again.
"Last time, you were infected with the black oil, because you followed a lead he brought you," she reminded me.
I nodded my agreement, but added, "he lost an arm by going with me."
"He killed your father,"
Oh, now that was bringing out the big guns. "I've been thinking about that," I said, softly.
"What?"
"We both know he was following orders back then, right?"
"What about it? That doesn't make it okay," she chided me.
"No, it doesn't, but think about it. My father was supposedly planning to spill his secrets- something I still doubt-- so Krycek killed him before he could. Do you honestly think they would have allowed me to live, once my father told me everything?"
Scully hesitated, looking thoughtful. "Probably not. So, he killed your father, to save you?"
I shrugged. "It seems very probable."
"My abduction?" she asked.
I lowered my eyes. "How effective would I have been, do you think, in stopping them?"
She paused to think, but didn't respond.
"If I had gotten there, they would probably have taken us both."
"So, he slowed you down, so you wouldn't be taken with me?"
"It's a thought," I offered, knowing it hardly made up for the fact that we hadn't prevented *her* abduction.
"So, you trust him?" she asked.
I nodded.
“Alright. You go to Egypt, and look into this curse. The apparitions from the ship mentioned the necessity to break it; and while I’m not sure I wasn’t hallucinating, you may as well do what you do best. If you need help, give me a call.” Scully smiled, though I could see the worry in her eyes.
I was glad this wouldn’t cause dissension between us. Much as I enjoyed sex with Krycek, it didn’t compare to the trust and friendship I shared with Scully.
Skinner was suspicious, but didn’t deny my request.
