The first time I loved forever

"It's tomorrow, the wedding, I can't believe it sometimes vincent, the dream we've have both held for so long is happening tomorrow." said catherine with happiness bubbling up inside her,

Vincent chuckled as he brushed her hair and bent down to kiss her cheek.
"You are beautiful when you are happy" he said "It makes my heart swell with joy, there was a time when you and I feared there would be no place for you below, but that is all in the past." he looked sad for a moment

"Vincent, what's wrong?" catherine asked as she wrapped her arms around him
"I just have a few regrets that's all, do you remember when you went into a deep depression about your mother's death?" Catherine nodded

"You begged me to let you live below and I refused because I was so afraid that you would resent me in the end. I didn't know that you loved me so much that my rejection of you" he paused "would break your spirit. And after you left me to go to westport to stay with nancy. I felt so bereft and full of regret that I could not function properly. I felt your pain and I knew, just knew I had let go of the best thing that's ever happened to me. I knew how much I had hurt you and I want to tell you that I will never hurt you again my love. I will have no more fear no more doubts and I promise I will not make your decisions for you again" he looked deep into her eyes with sincerity
and catherine knew he was telling the truth, a single teardrop made it's way down her cheek and he wiped it away as he placed a tender kiss on her forehead.

"Hm Hm, I hate to interrupt you two but catherine and I have some fabric shopping to do
for the wedding dress" said jamie

Catherine threw her arms around vincent and gave him a tender kiss she then went with jamie to borrow some clothes from her so she would not look out of place in the world above. Vincent smiled as the two close friends walked off arm in arm.

"Anything wrong, Vincent" asked Jacob as he walked into vincent's bed chamber
Vincent looked up from his book and shook his head
"No, father, everything is perfect. Catherine and Jamie are shopping for material for catherine's wedding gown. Father, catherine and I have been discussing her moving below"

"well, tomorrow you will be husband and wife and I know she has been more than ready for the transition for over a year now. I was just hesitant about it because I didn't want you to get hurt if she decided it wasn't the right move for her. Now I see I was wrong vincent, I'm sorry I made it difficult for you two at first. Forgive me" said jacob placing a kiss on his son's head

vincent hugged his father then looked at him before shaking his head
"Father, there is nothing to forgive" said vincent smiling

"I am glad your dream has come true, vincent because seeing you and catherine happy makes me happy" said jacob

Meanwhile catherine and jamie had stopped for lunch at a burger bar
"Wow, catherine you really know how to shop. You did not have to buy me a dress"
"Yes I did, after all you are my maid of honour." said catherine
Just then Joe spotted his employee with a girlfriend he had never met before.
"catherine, what are you doing shopping when you are meant to be resting." he said astonished
"Hi Joe, how is the d.a's office holding up without me" jamie giggled to get his attention "joe, this is jamie, she is one of the children from the tunnels" she whispered quietly
"oh, well it's nice to meet you jamie" replied joe
Just then Joe spotted that catherine was practically glowing and fidgeting with the rock on her right hand
He smiled "So who is the lucky guy then" he laughed when catherine blushed from the neck up

"catherine! you are getting married but to whom" he gasped
Catherine looked at jamie for guidance and answered with a new found confidence
"the man I love with all my heart asked me to marry him a few days at the hospital" she paused wondering how much information to give her employer "His name is vincent and I have been seeing him for two years now"

"catherine, wow, you really are a dark horse" he answered in shock
"Would you like to meet him before our wedding tomorrow?" Joe nodded
"I will warn you though, his appearance is not what you would expect but i love him with every fibre of my being and he will be shy of you at first so take heed ok."

"well, if he makes you glow like that then I am very happy for you sweetie." said Joe as he hugged her

They entered the chinatown entrance to the tunnels

Joe watched as catherine tapped out a message on the pipes
She and jamie grabbed his hands and guided him through the tunnels to the sealed entrance. Joe offered to take her shopping bags as his eyes adjusted to the light
and the circular door opened as Joe stood gobsmacked. Vincent stood there waiting to meet catherines employer for the first time ever.

Catherine threw her arms around him first then vincent noticed joe standing behind jamie and walked towards him. joe was gobsmacked as the creature spoke to him
"So you are vincent, do mind my asking why you are hiding yur face?"
"Because you would feel fear if you were not prepared for this moment" Vincent lifted back his hood and joe saw his leonine features and gasped but not with fear but curiosity. This man had a compassionate face and sparkling deep blue eyes no wonder catherine loved him as much as she did. He must have a heart the size of texas

"Vincent I'm sorry it's just the shock" said joe
Whatever reaction vincent had expected, this man had shown an open mind to all possibility but this was an unexpected surprise, a pleasant surprise.

"that's quite alright Joe" said vincent smiling
"Hmmm, I always knew our catherine had a secret but I could never figure it out"
"would you like to meet my father?" chuckled vincent
"Well, i would like an invite to the wedding. I can't miss out on my protege's big day"
"yes of course but remember you must be dscreet, the community and catherines safety depends on your secrecy." joe nodded "You can trust me vincent, thank you for putting a smile on catherines face. She is practically glowing with happiness and I know that you are responsible for that." Vincent was touched by his sincerity and shook his hand again

The next day was the wedding and Joe took a taxi to central park then made his way to the drainage tunnel where he was met by catherine who was in her dressing gown and he took in the sight of her.

"oh catherine, you look beautiful sweetie"
She pulled him into a friendly hug and led him to the circular door where it opened and they met jacob the patriarch of the community.

"Joe, this is jacob my father in law to be" jacob shook his hand and led him to a chamber where he found a tuxedo waiting on a small bed.

jacob left him to change and catherine sat down next to him
"joe, I have thought a lot about this and I was wondering"
"yes catherine"
"Would you like to give me away as my surrogate father?" he hugged her then and looked at her with admiration
"I would be honoured, kiddo" He lifted her chin smiling and placed a fatherly kiss on her cheek

Vincent was pacing his bed chamber after he had got dressed into his finest cloak and robes. It was an anxious time for him but he was extremely happy to be able to marry the woman he loved with father's blessing

"vincent" called father
"yes father" "It's time to get you married my son" jacob hugged his son and tears were coming down his cheeks in pride

The Great hall was gathered with all the community and peter the helper from above. Debra was there as well as William burke.

When Rolley began to play the wedding march catherine took a deep breath laced her arm with Joes and walked down the balcony and steps towards a new life with her prince charming. jamie was walking in front of her and little cathy and maria were catherines bridesmaids

vincent at the front of the Aisle turned around and what he saw took his breath away. he first thought a nymph had found her way to the tunnels but it was his catherine, his beauty that he loved with all his heart. To him she looked like a goddess of divine nature. Her gown had been handcrafted to look like gossamer silk in pure white and she was sporting a crown of flowers on her pinned back hair with curls that hung down by her neck and ears with a bouquet of wild flowers in her hand. Her curves were complimented with the ribbon ties around her middle. she had on a plain veil which flowed with her dress. he swallowed the lump in his throat as a single teardrop at her sheer beauty ran down his cheek. She approached him with a glowing smile and he smiled back at her lovingly

Joe handed over his surrogate daughter and placed her hand in vincents.
"She's all yours now buddy" he said
Jacob placed his hand over Vincent and catherines joined hands


"We gather here to celebrate a union long awaited between Vincent and catherine. They are living proof that miracles do come true and they have proved their bond is a strong one."
He paused and indicated to vincent to say his vows

"My catherine. Through all the turmoil of our relationship we have relied on our bond to keep us together. My own shame is that I doubted that you could love me as you do without fear or prejudice. But you have proven me wrong with your everlasting devotion and constant faith in my abilitys. Even though I rejected you out of pride, you came back to me from west port to tell me that your heart had been lifted from grief and that you would never leave me again. My heart swelled with everlasting love for you.
I promise to cherish you for the rest of our days together. I will love you, keep you safe from harm and I will guide us through the good and bad times. I make my solemn promise to be a loving and devoted husband to you.

Jacob indicated catherine to say her vow

I, catherine chandler will give myself openly and fully as a wife should. I remember when you rescued me and made me strong again after the attack. I was falling in love with you then as you walked me back to my apartment. You held me to you and I could hear your heart beating faster. I will love you, cherish you and guide us through the good and the bad times together as one. I will be a loving and devoted wife to you
on my solemn promise.

Jacob took his joining ribbons and wound them around their joined hands
The red ribbon for love and the white ribbon eternity

"What the gods have joined together let no-one put asunder"
"You may kiss the bride" said jacob smiling
Vincent let out the breath he had been holding and embraced her as he lowered his mouth to hers to take her soaring in a passionate kiss

jacob clasped his hands in joy and spoke again
"May I present Mr vincent and catherine chandler-wells"

The newly married couple faced the community and everyone was cheering with tears in their eyes. As they were cheering vincent lifted catherine and twirled her in happiness
Then catherine tossed her crown of flowers in tradition.

"Now the reception is taking place in the dining room where we will see the newly weds dance together"

As the newlyweds went round greeting everyone and looking at the presents. Joe laced his arm through hers and put his arm round vincent

"Well, kiddiwinks I tell ya that was a very beautiful ceremony. Don't tell anyone it even made me cry a little" Vincent chuckled, shook his hand

"Do not worry Joe, I won't tell anyone you really are a softie at heart" Joe smiled at the deadpan joke vincent made

"Take good care of her, vincent" catherine smiled as the two newfound friends shook hands again.

"I will. She is my whole life" Joe hugged catherine and gave her a kiss on her forehead
Catherine hugged him before he left with jacob to guide him out to central park.

Vincent carried his new bride onto the dance floor to dance to a waltz. everyone joined them eventually.

Catherine was getting tired and sat down in between vincent's legs on the grand staircase

"Are you happy my love?" asked vincent as he nuzzled her hair
"I am" she smiled "Incredibly happy, this was our dream vincent and it came true."

He pulled Catherine onto his lap and lifted her

"Vincent, what are you doing?" she had to ask laughter in her eyes

"Well, John and cullen have crafted out another chamber for us near the waterfalls."
"Yes" she said with mirth and her eyes were dancing with a flicker of lust
"I thought that we could go to our honeymoon suite and make love several times before
anyone notices we are gone" he replied as he carried her away
"Really mr wells I was hoping you would say that" she replied the laughter in her eyes

jacob saw them heading to the honeymoon suite and smiled

As catherine entered the room she gasped. There was a four poster bed with candle light and the red and white rose petals that symbolised their love for each other

Vincent began lovingly undoing her ribbons as he stroked her shoulders and tickled her neck with his lips. She turned around and as she did the dress fell to the floor. She gasped as vincent drew a soft line with his claw down to her stomach from her cleavage
