New Ally
Chapter 7 : New Ally
Jan couldn't speak for several seconds. Lex smirked. "Cat got your tongue, Mr. Oramu?" Lex asked, very amused. "I... I...." Jan stammered, "I won't let you down, Lex." Jan said to his boss. That didn't take long enough, in fact, it took several seconds. Oh well, we'll see how it goes. But I promise you, one rape and you're a dead man. Then again, I think Kara can hold her own. Lex thought after Jan had spoken.
Lex nodded. "Very well. Now, let's see." Lex said as he saw Jan slip Kara's manila folder in his bag, Lex went to search for the sheet of concerts that were going to be played soon. "Ah, One Republic is doing a gig in Metropolis tomorrow night. Could you go and review the concert? I know for a fact that Kara loves One Republic, so maybe you could ask her out?" Lex asked. "B... But what if she...?" Jan stammered.
"RELAX!" Lex exclaimed. "She already likes someone else, so she's off the market there. Rest assured, nothing of the sort will happen. You two will just go as friends." Jan's boss said as he handed him an envelope. Jan opened it and saw it were two backstage tickets to the One Republic concert. "Wow, thanks boss!" Jan said and wanted to walk away, when Lex pushed a button. "Please stay some more. I'd like you to meet someone else, who will act as a cover for you, so Kara and Lois and the others won't find your arrival... suspicious." Lex said. The door opened and Tess Mercer came inside.
"You called for me, Lex?" The next moment she squealed like a child who had gotten candy for a good grade. "This is Jan Oramu, the one you've told me about? It's SO nice to meet you!" Tess said as she walked over to Jan and wrapped her arms around him and gave him a big kiss.
Jan's cheeks lit up with embarressment. He did hold Tess in his arms and turned around to face Lex again. "THIS is your idea of a cover?!" Jan asked, almost fuming. Lex raised an eyebrow. "What? You don't like this idea? I'm hurt." Lex said, feigning hurt with placing his hand over his heart. "After everything I did for you. We weren't actually planning to hire new people, you see. With such a disaster having happened not so long ago." Lex told Jan with a hurt expression on his face.
Tess had pulled away and looked as hurt as Lex... maybe even more like really hurt. Jan looked at Tess and found himself going for the bait. "As long as it'll think we're a couple, why the hell not?" Jan asked and then sighed as he kissed Tess hard on her lips!!! Her hurtful expression turned into one of pure glee and an evil grin crossed her features.
"I knew you'd come around." She whispered in his ear. "So, Mr. Luthor, where's my desk?" Jan asked him. "Oh, it's right next to Lois Lane. You should go, introduce yourself to the others." Jan let go of Tess and smiled. "It'll be my pleasure." Jan said as he picked up his bag and left the office.
Tess smirked at Lex. "How did he react to the news of your previous employee?" Tess asked him as she took a seat. "Oh," Lex said, grinning evilly, "his look was one of pure shock!"
Jan didn't have any trouble finding his new desk. At the adjoining desk, Lois was already busily typing up her article for her boss. Jan decided to just go for it. "Hi, my name is Jan Oramu. I'm new." Lois looked up, her finger poised above the next letter she was going to enter to finish her word. "Oh, hey. Nice to meet you, Jan. I'm Lois, Lois Lane." Lois said and shook his offered hand. "Sorry, can't talk right now. I'm on a deadline here and I have a craving for.. uhm... coffee?" Lois said, clearly remembering what had happened with Jacen. She SO didn't want a repeat of that! Then again, it was only Jan's first day.
"Yeah, I know how deadlines feel. Put everything on hold and then breathe again." Jan said as he started up his computer. "If it's not too much trouble, I could get some coffee for you? I'm quite in need of some myself." Jan said to Lois. Probably to drink away the shock of having heard Lex killed the person who had this job before me...
Lois stopped and propped her arm around her other arm to place her chin up, her face scrunched in thought. I know it's too soon... but he so isn't like Jacen. Lois thought, she had to be careful with her decisions. Sure, she could fall back into the same doomsday scenario she had had with her missing in action co-worker, or she could trust this guy and not fall back into the same doomsday scenario, but instead create a utopia scenario where Jan and her actually got along. "Sure, Jan, I'd like that."
Jan smiled and nodded. "Coming right up from the lovely coffeemaker machine." Jan said and went to the lounge room where he got two cups of coffee. When Jan had gone, Kara had entered the Daily Planet and came looking for her girlfriend. "Hey, you." Kara said with a happy smile as she walked towards her Lois and kissed her hard on his lips. That moment Jan came back and the two cups slipped from his hands as he watched Lois kiss Kara back with equal desire and passion.
DAMN! She's a lesbian! NOW how am I going to get her to go to the concert with me? I should probably just give the tickets to Lois so she could go with Kara! Jan thought as he luckily managed to catch the two cups before they reached the floor. "Hey, if you said your friend was coming, I would have brought another cup."
Tess had watched Jan intently and after she had seen him almost spill the cups to the floor, she had rolled her eyes. A repeat of Jacen Solo if you ask me... Tess thought as she walked over to the desk while Jan was talking with Kara and Lois.
"It's nice to meet you, Kara." Jan said to her, smiling as he was about to reach for his cup of coffee, when he was pulled toward Tess. "Hey, Jan!" Tess said and kissed him hard on his lips.
Kara was looking at Lois with an expression that asked 'they know eachother?' Lois just shrugged. "Guess so, baby." Lois whispered.
END CHAPTER 7: NEW ALLY
