Chapter 8
Luke walked into the house three days later to see his youngest cousin sitting on the couch, holding the phone in his lap. "Bo, you okay?"
"Huh? Ye...not really, Detective Richardson just called. They had to let Bobby go, lack of evidence and he's not..."
"Lack of evidence? After what you told them?" Luke asked, clearly angry at the news.
"The detective said that Bobby won't admit to anything except watching and there ain't no law against that. He wants me to come over this afternoon and meet with a sketch artist, think you could drive me?"
"Sure I can, ya don't think I'd let you go over there alone?"
"Thanks Luke, think I'll go grab a shower and change, maybe we can head over there after lunch," Bo suggested.
"Sounds like a plan," Luke agreed. He watched worriedly as his baby cousin walked down the hall for his second shower of the day. Seemed like every time the attack got brought up Bo was running for a shower, and he was getting more concerned each time that it happened.
Bobby Jensen left the jail a free man and headed straight for Mark Dawson's house. Taking a round about route in case he was being followed, Bobby finally arrived at Mark's place forty-five minutes later. Going up to the door, he gave it two quick raps before walking on inside. "Hey Mark, how you do...ooomph," Bobby groaned as he was suddenly slammed against a wall, a beefy arm across his throat holding him in place.
"Were you born stupid or do you have to work at it?" Mark snapped.
"Huh? What's the matter with you?"
"You just get out of jail and where's the first place you come to? My place, ain't you got enough sense to know the cops are probably watching you?"
"Even if they are it won't matter, I made sure to take a twisty way here to make sure I wasn't followed," Bobby assured the angry man.
"I ought to just kill you now, at least then I won't have to worry about you talking," Mark growled, pressing harder against Bobby's throat.
"I didn't tell them anything, I swear," Bobby managed to squeak out.
"Maybe not this time, but what about next time they have you in there. Nah, sooner or later you'll crack so I'm thinking I should just get rid of ya before it's too late."
"I promise ya Mark I ain't gonna talk. Why would I? It ain't like they can pin anything on me, no crime in watching ya know. Look buddy, there's no way for the cops to prove I know you or any of the others, so there ain't nothing they can do. If you're really worried about getting caught ya ought to go after Bo Duke, he can identify you and I don't know for sure who else."
"How do ya know that?" Mark demanded.
"Heard some of the cops talking when I was leaving. They were arranging for a sketch artist to come down so's Bo can give them a description."
"Well how do you know it's me he can i.d.?"
"Don't, it just makes sense. I figure if he's going to remember anybody's face it'd be the guy who fucked his mouth, don't you?"
"Yeah, damn it! You think he'll do it?"
"Oh yeah, he'll do it alright," Bobby assured him.
"You know where he lives?"
"Yep, he lives in Hazzard county with his uncle and cousins"
"And he's the only one besides you that could testify against me?"
"That's right, so if you get rid of Bo then you got nothing to worry about. Maybe you could even have a little fun with him before you kill him," Bobby suggested, a knowing smile spreading across his face.
"Ya know I like the way you think Bobby, yes sir I really do," Mark smirked. Releasing the smaller man from the wall, Mark walked to the refrigerator and pulled out a beer, "You want one?"
"Thanks," Bobby replied, easily catching the beer Mark tossed his way. "So you want to do this before he meets with that sketch artist right?"
Mark didn't answer, just shot Bobby a scathing look as though he couldn't believe he'd taken on somebody so stupid. "You got any idea when he's coming?"
"No, just sometime today probably, and I know what road he'll be coming in on. I ain't sure what he'll be driving, but I know all the vehicles his family owns, so I'll be sure to recognize it. Ya can figure on his cousin Luke being with him too, he's real protective of Bo."
"Is cousin Luke as big as Bo?"
"Nah, he's a few inches shorter, but he was in the Marines and he's a pretty good fighter."
"A Marine huh? Always wondered if they're as tough as they claim, guess we're about to find out. Come on buddy, we got an ambush to set up," Mark said, grabbing his keys and leading the way outside.
Shortly after lunch, Bo and Luke were on their way to Cedar City. Without warning the front tire of the pick-up blew and Luke was forced to pull to the side of the road. "You okay?" Luke asked, turning to his cousin.
"Yeah I'm fine, wonder what caused that?"
"One way to find out," Luke replied, climbing out of the truck and moving to inspect the tire. The moment his finger found the hole, Luke felt his blood run cold. "Bo we need to get out of here, now!" Luke ordered, grabbing his cousin's arm and beginning to run towards the trees.
"What's wrong Luke?" Bo gasped out, ignoring the pain in his side as he tried to keep up.
"Hold it right there," a new voice barked from behind them, punctuating his order with a bullet at their feet.
Slowly turning around, they saw two men wearing ski masks, one of them holding a rifle equipped with a silencer. Motioning them on into the trees, the two men followed, never moving the rifle from their position.
"Sit down," the larger of the two men ordered, grinning at Bo when he paled and nearly fell. "Not you blondie, just him."
"Bo, what is it?" Luke asked, seeing the same paleness and fear as their attacker. "He's one of them, isn't he?" Luke questioned, putting the clues together.
"Yeah, he's the..." the sudden backhand knocked him to the ground.
"Leave him alone, ain't you done enough already?" Luke yelled, rushing towards the much larger man. The sound of a rifle being cocked brought him to a sudden stop.
"You don't speak unless I tell you to," the larger man said, pointing his finger at Bo. "You, sit down by that tree or watch your cousin's brains get splattered on the ground," he ordered Luke. Pulling a pistol from the waistband of his jeans, he aimed it at Bo and pulled back the hammer.
With no other choice, Luke reluctantly sat down in front of the indicated tree.
The man with the rifle handed his weapon to his partner and picked up a coil of rope from behind the tree. Quickly and efficently he tied Luke to the tree, leaving him helpless to save his cousin.
"You got him tied up good?"
"Yeah real good, he ain't going nowhere," Bobby assured Mark.
"Good," Mark said. Giving Bobby no clue as to what he planned, Mark suddenly shifted his aim and shot Bobby between the eyes. Turning back to Bo, he again aimed the gun at him, "Don't try anything stupid blondie, I got no problem with killing you too. Especially since you can identify me, just like him," he said, nodding towards Bobby.
"What do you want?" Bo asked, somehow managing to keep his voice sounding steady.
"Oh I think you know the answer to that Bo," Mark smirked, grabbing Bo by the hair and forcing him to his knees.
"No, I won't do it."
"Yes you will, cause you don't want to die."
"You're gonna kill me anyway," Bo argued, realizing as he spoke that he was probably right.
"Not just a dumb blond huh? Okay, you're right I am. It's nothing personal, but you can identify me and I can't let you do that. Here's the deal though, he can't," Mark told him, nodding towards Luke. "So you do what I say and I'll let him live, you don't and you both die."
"No! Don't do it Bo!" Luke yelled, knowing that he might as well try telling the sun not to rise.
"I have to Luke, I can't let him kill you," Bo sadly replied.
"Very good decision. Now just like the other night, open my pants and suck my cock," Mark coldly ordered.
With trembling hands Bo did as he was told, closing his eyes he took the other man's dick into his mouth. He wondered when the bullet that ended his life would come and if it would be quick, he only hoped that Luke's life would be spared as promised.
"Damn you're good at this, ahhhh, no not yet," Mark cried out, pulling away from Bo. "Stand up and take off your pants," he ordered.
"What? No, please don't do this."
"Shut up faggot and do as I say!"
"Please, I'm not even gay," Bo begged, hoping that it would make a difference.
"Like hell your not, as good as you sucked my cock there ain't no way you're straight. Now this is the last time I'm gonna say it. Strip!"
Bo couldn't see anyway out and so he slowly did as he was told. His hands shook so badly he could barely grip the zipper, but somehow he managed to pull it down and all too soon he stood before the other man, half-naked and terrified.
"Very good, now get onto your hands and knees, spread your legs," he instructed. With one hand Mark dropped his own pants and knelt on the ground between Bo's legs. Placing the head of his dick at Bo's asshole, Mark suddenly lunged forward, laughing at the sound of Bo's scream. Pulling back, he was startled by the sound of an engine as another vehicle pulled up near the Duke's pick-up. "Damn it! Guess we'll have to play another time faggot." Pulling himself out of Bo's body, Mark hurriedly fastened his pants and grabbed the rifle from the ground. Leaning down he whisperd in Bo's ear, "Keep your mouth shut or I'll kill everybody you love."
Collapsing to the ground Bo was oblivious to the sound of Luke calling his name. Curling into a ball, the traumatized man heard nothing but the sound of his rapists' laughter and the threat he'd made.
Pulling up beside Jesse's pick-up, L.B. was surprised to see the truck sitting there abandoned. Worried that maybe somebody had tried to hurt Bo again, he started searching the area, calling Bo's name.
"L.B.! Over here, hurry," Luke called out, struggling to free himself from the ropes.
"Luke! What happened? Who did this to ya?" L.B. asked, moving to free the other man. "Who's he?" he questioned, nodding at Bobby's body lying near Luke.
"I ain't sure L.B., just get me loose so I can help Bo," Luke replied, in no mood to talk about what had happened.
"Bo?" L.B. asked, finally freeing Luke from the ropes. Turning in the direction his friend indicated, he was shocked to see the younger Duke lying on the ground half-naked and bleeding. "Oh Bo," he whispered, horrified to see what had been done to his friend. Slipping out of the light jacket he wore, L.B. carefully and gently draped it across the lower half of Bo's body. "You gonna be okay for a minute Luke?"
"Yeah, why?" Luke asked. Distracted by his cousin's condition he wasn't really listening to L.B..
"I'm gonna go call for an ambulance and I guess I better get a hold of Rosco. Don't go nowhere, I'll be right back," L.B. instructed, quickly patting Luke on the back. Standing up, he quickly ran back to his tow truck and made the necessary calls. Grabbing a blanket from the back of the truck, he hurried back to the boys.
"Luke? I brought a blanket to cover Bo with," he explained, removing the jacket and replacing it with the blanket. "You got any idea who did this?" L.B. asked, watching as Luke laid his cousin's head in his lap and soothed him as he spoke.
"It was the same one that hurt him the other night, he was gonna kill him L.B., so he couldn't testify. First though, first he wanted to hurt him. The bastard told him he'd kill me if Bo didn't do as he said, that's why Bo didn't try to fight him. I think that one over there is Bobby," Luke continued, nodding to the masked body near the tree.
"Bobby Jensen? Why do ya think that?"
"Cause the other guy said that he was the only one besides Bo that could identify him," Luke answered.
"I hope it is, jerk deserved what he got," L.B. snarled, surprising Luke with his anger. "What? You think your'e the only one that cares about Bo? Dang, I'm sorry, you didn't deserve that," L.B. apologized. "I'm just worried about Bo and mad that he's been hurt again."
"It's okay L.B., I just was a little surprised, I don't think I've ever heard you that mad before. He had just started to, well you know, when you pulled up. He said something to Bo, I couldn't hear what and then he took off. You called an ambulance didn't ya?" Luke asked, getting worried by the fact that Bo still hadn't responded to either of them.
"Yeah, and Rosco, they should be here soon."
"Ya hear that Bo? Helps on the way, you just hang in there cousin," Luke encouraged, softly stroking Bo's hair.
"You listen to Luke now Bo, he knows what he's talking about," L.B. added, gently lifting Bo's hand and brushing his thumb across the knuckles. He sighed sadly when there was no response, though he wasn't surprised. "Sounds like help is here," he noticed a moment later as the sound of sirens was heard nearing them. "I'll just go show them where to come to," L.B. told Luke.
A few minutes later L.B. returned, leading the paramedics and an unusually subdued Rosco. Helping Luke to his feet, L.B. moved him a couple of feet away, allowing the medics room to work. Watching as Rosco moved to the body and removed the mask, L.B. wasn't surprised to see Bobby Jensen. "Looks like you were right Luke."
"Luke, can you tell me what happened here?" Rosco asked, stepping over to the younger man and laying a supportive hand on his arm.
"We were heading to Cedar City and all of a sudden the tire blew. I got out to see what happened and found a bullet hole in the tire. Soon as I realized what had happened, I told Bo to run and we headed towards the trees. We didn't get far though, him and another guy wearing a mask came up behind us with guns. They forced us into the trees and Bobby tied me to that tree. Once he was sure I was secure, the other guy shot Bobby. He said that he was the only one besides Bo that could identify him. He was gonna kill Bo too, but first he wanted to..." Luke paused, unable to get the word out. "Bo didn't even try to fight him cause the guy said he would kill me if he did. He knew the guy was gonna kill him when he was done with him, but he was trying to save my life. The guy had just started to hurt Bo when L.B. pulled up and he took off. You got to catch this guy Rosco, you can't let him get away with what he did to Bo."
"I will Luke," Rosco promised. "Can ya tell me anything about the guy?"
"No, just that he was big and he had a gun," Luke replied. "Rosco can I go now? I'd really like to go to the hospital with Bo," Luke explained, seeing the paramedics lifting the stretcher from the ground.
"Sure Luke, if I have any more questions I'll call ya," Rosco told him. Turning towards L.B., he asked him if he'd seen anything.
"Nah Rosco, by the time I got up here the guy was gone. I untied Luke, covered Bo up and called you, that's all I know. Uh, Rosco it okay if I go too? It don't look like they're gonna let Luke ride in the ambulance."
"Yeah, you better go," Rosco agreed, looking towards the road where Luke was arguing with the paramedics.
"Look that's my cousin, you got to let me ride in the ambulance," Luke insisted, trying to climb into the vehicle.
"I'm sorry sir but we can't allow that," the paramedic told him, blocking Luke's entrance.
"Luke, come on and I'll take you to the hospital," L.B. said, moving up beside his friend.
"L.B.? Yeah, okay," Luke reluctantly agreed. Stepping back from the ambulance, he watched as the paramedic climbed in the back and shut the door.
"Rosco, could you go tell Jesse and Daisy what's happening? I don't think we ought to be broadcasting about this on the cb," L.B. asked. Taking Luke's arm, he gently steered the other man towards the tow truck and into the passenger seat.
"I'll do that L.B., you gonna be okay to look out for the boys until they get there? Or should I send Enos with you?"
"We'll be fine Rosco, thanks," L.B. replied, climbing into his truck and starting the motor. Glancing at Luke, he found himself praying for both of his friends as he followed the ambulance towards Tri-County hospital.
