Dinah's New Job
CHAPTER EIGHT
Dinah was dressed in tan dress skirt that barley covered her knee caps. She wore black stockings and mini high heels to give a professional look. Upwards, she wore a white tank-top shirt which looked nice with the matching tan man’s sports jacket. What was more surprising to Reese than anything was her black plastic framed glasses.
“What’s with the glasses?” Reese asked as the two of them entered the police headquarters. “I don’ know, I thought they would give me a professional look and maybe disguise me a little.
Reese laughed as the two of them walked of the stairs. “Do you understand what your duties will entail?”
“Pretty much,” Dinah replied. “I’m in charge of keep all the police files in order and find any files that you need.”
“That’s the basic idea. You will also be in charge of our record’s database including entering them into our computer and retrieving them. So I take it you are familiar with computers.”
Dinah smiled innocently. “Yes, I know computers.”
The second lever of the station was hectic compared to the first. It was impossible not to come close to walking into an officer. There had to be a good hundred police officers on the second level alone. A few officers stopped and gazed at her, and she could think of doing to reply is nod her head to say hello.
Reese led her to a small office. “This will be your office, “Reese said as he walked around the desk and opened the drawer. Reaching in, he pulled out a golden name plaque with the words, ‘Dina Lance’ written in white.
“I get my own name plate?” Dinah said enthusiastically.
“You sure do. I always make sure my employees are treated respectfully by my officers. “Now, I know that there will be times Barbara will call you out. If something is up, just instant message me with the info and give me a heads up. I’ll give you and Helena time to get to the scene of crime before I send my people out.”
“Got it, Dinah replied. She walked around the desk and sat at her seat. She was excited about her first professional job. She had her own office, though there was no door so anyone could come in and out as they pleased. She had her own desk, filing cabinet, and computer.
Reese could sense the joy she was feeling and smiled as he made his way out of the office. Stopping at the entrance way, remembering something, he turned back around to Dinah who had sat down behind her desk. “Give me about ten minutes and I’ll have you up and running. Until then, you can meet the officers and get to know them. The kitchen is down just a little ways where every morning we have fresh coffee, donuts and bagels. Feel free to help yourself.”
Dinah nodded as she leaned back in her chair. She was going to like this job. Since she had a few minutes before her job actually started, she decided to go fix herself a warm cup of coffee. While living with her mother, she had picked up the habit of drinking at least one cup of black coffee everyday.
She stood up from her desk brushed the wrinkles out of her skirt and walked out of her office. She collided with a police officer who was walking by at the time. “Ooops, I apologize!” they both said at the same time.
They looked up each other, and Dinah tried her best to hide her alarmed feeling that was ringing through her nerves. “Say, do I know you from somewhere?” Officer Ashton asked looking at her suspiciously.
Dinah shook her head, putting on a surprise look of innocence. “Can’t say that we’ve ever been introduced.” Technically, that was the god honest truth. “Today is my first day as the new clerk, and I am sooooo nervous.”
Officer Ashton laughed as he stuck his hand out in front of him. “My name is Officer Greg Ashton.”
“Dinah Lance,” She replied shaking hands with him.
“Well, don’t mean to great and leave, but I am due back on patrol,” Ashton replied. “I suppose I’ll be seeing you around.”
“I guess so,” Dinah smiled sweetly.
