Chapter 8

Once Nick reached the lab he saw a very upset Greg. Greg was just sitting there, music up, cursing. His heart hurt for Greg. Greg never had much luck with the ladies. He held up a facade that he didn't mind, but it got to him. It wasn't that Greg wasn't attractive. He was just... well over excited about his work.

“Hey, Greg whats up,” Nick asked the younger CSI nervously.

“Oh other than the girl of my dreams getting banged by one of my best friends? Not a damned thing,” Greg said bitterly.

“Greg I think you need to talk to her. She told me herself she loves you. She fucked Rick cause she was worked up over you. She told me so herself,” Nick told him softly.

Greg looked up at Nick, blinking, his look a confused one. He didn't know Jeri felt that way about him. Before he could stop himself, a silly, lopsided grin washed over his face. He made her feel that way. Him. The geeky lab tech.

“Is it too late,” he asked his friend, a bit worried now.

“I don't think so. Shes sitting on the roof listening to her CD player, crying because your arms aren't around her,” Nick said grinning.

Greg smiled and bolted out of his chair, heading for the roof. When he reached his destination, he just starred at her. There she sat, her eyes looking up at the morning sky, watching the sunrise, crying. To him, she was the picture of beauty, although front what he heard not many thought this. But he knew it was in humans' nature to hate and fear what they do not understand. He started to walk over to her, his hands sweaty. Great, just like high school again, he mused. He finally reached her, and say down next to her.

“Jeri... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gone off like that. Neither of you knew,” he said after she finally removed her headphones.

“I know,” was her simple reply as she looked over at him, smiling. She slowly reached over to embrace him, and he gladly hugged her back.

She laid against him, her back to his chest and they watched the sun come up, a soft smile on both of their lips as they watched the rising sun on the CSI roof.

“Isn't it the most beautiful thing you've ever seen,” she asked him, sighing.

“No. You are,” he said looking down at her hugging her to his chest.

Soon, they were both getting kind of sleepy so he pulled them to their feet and let her by the hand down the flight of stairs, smiling as if he won the lottery. As they walked through the building people flashed Greg big grins, and some people even went aww as the couple walked by, Jeri leaning on Greg, with his arm around her shoulders, both smiling.

Soon they reached his car and he unlocked her side opening the door for her, blushing. She just smiled and hopped in, making herself comfortable as he ran to th other side, unlocking his door and jumping in, as he slammed the door behind him.

“Hurry much,” she asked laughing as he just started the SUV, blushing madly.

Yawning, she let her seat back fall, curling up in a little ball, hoping to catch a little sleep. He watched her on and off during the drive, thinking of how lucky he was. Just a few days ago, he was lonely, wondering vaguely if there was a girl out there for him. Now, he had a girl that loved him very much, even though she was confused and confusing. He continued driving, stopping only for a cup of coffee at McDonald's, until he reached his house. He reached over and gently shook Jeri, rousing her from her sleep. She grumbled but got out of the car, dragging her back on the ground as Greg bounded up the steps, unlocking the door before she reached it. She simply walked straight into the house, threw her purse on the couch, and dragged herself to the bathroom, slamming the door, only to come out moments later in her panties and what looked like one of his old t-shirts and went into his bedroom where he heard her collapse onto the mattress. He walked into the bedroom and laughed as she laid on top of the covers, hugging a pillow, curled up, mumbling about the evils of sunlight. She watched as Greg opened drawers, grabbing a shirt, a pair of jogging pants and some clean boxers.

“I'll be right back, just going to change,” he said, blushing. She merely mumbled and rolled over. When he was done he came back out and she got up and just looked at him until it dawned on him... she was waiting for him to get in bed. Blushing redder than before, he climbed into the plush bed, followed closely by Jeri. She practically purred when he wrapped his arms around her, and she nearly instantly fell into a deep sleep. He smiled and nodded off, holding her close to him, happy that he pushed his pride aside for once.
